Why are people that play tabletops (mostly card games and wargames, but to some extent RPGs as well) so obsessed with winning? I legitimately do not understand this. Is it not enough for people to just have a fun time with others playing a game? Why do people get some sort of perverse pleasure for watching others suffer and lose? It boggles my mind. Please explain this to me /tg/ because I do not understand it.
Ask yourself, "why do people who play sports want to win the game when they play?"
Then consider, why would someone who plays a competitive game but instead of exercise instead devotes thousands of dollars of disposable income into being able to play the game at a competitive level want to win the game?

It's because a high percentage of tabletop gamers have poor social skills mixed with crippling insecurities because of their own lack of personal control over their lives.
They can't 'win' by being funny or attractive, so the only thing left to them is their hobby, which they can control. THey can control it so well that they can only find pleasure in crushing their opponents, rather than enjoying a game. It's the reason you have That Guy rules lawyers.

I mean I'm an autist myself with poor social skills as well, but at least I recognize that my own enjoyment at winning in a game is less important than everyone else having fun. When people say "winning is fun" that seems very self-centered to me because you are literally prioritizing your own enjoyment over that of your opponent or everyone else. How do you guys pull off recurring villains? Like not overpowered guys who show up, beat up the party, then teleport away. Guys who the party should have a reasonable chance to defeat (and at times may have to) but at the same time he could show up again later?

Recurring villains usually work for a higher villain down the road, so have that villain see them as too valuable to let the recurring villain die and gives him either trinkets to aid in escaping or fake his death- or revives that person if the party kills him.
If this is a setting where they can't do that or there is no higher villain they serve then Doom bot it.

Either have them act at a distance (though messengers, recordings, etc) or don't tag them as The Big Bad.
If he winds up in the same room as the party, you'll have to be ok with your precious plot going off the rails. If you think about it, it makes sense right? Why would you personally seek out your own assassins unless you wanted to set up a dumb video game cut scene?

This guy is more of a non-friendly rival to the party, like you said a guy who will go up in ranks as the party becomes a bigger threat.
And again if plans fail and he DOES get killed its not a huge deal, its an organization and this guy can be replaced, its just I kind of want the dynamic of him being a constant thorn.

For races I think we will have humans. Spirits (no one is sure how they are born, see Kami from Mushishi or Kekkaishi) and Undead.
Undead have various forms, and various level of intelligence. Most are harmful and are extermniated on sight but some as rusalkas mentioned above can be used by cunning minds.
I also wanted to put back the power of the songs as in Tolkien works. Good singer can work powerful magic with the right intsrument and the right moment. Put people to sleep create illusions. Other powers singing can have?

I'm sure he enjoys playing things each turn and having things to do, but I don't enjoy sitting down for 30 minutes only to have almost 0 interactivity.

There is zero shame in knowing when you can't win and cutting to the chase.
However, sideboards are a thing; consider dedicating a few sideboard cards to matchups like this. Creatures with hexproof or indestructible, for example.

The Wing that focuses on Flamers and Meltas. DA's legion gimmick appears to be the prototype Legion that tested our everyone else's specialty and still retains knowledge of how to do all of it.

It would be far more helpful to tell us the character's goals, personalities, why they're together, rather than just race and class.
Seriously, what do your players want out of the game? What are their reason's for adventuring? Build some quests around that. If someone is hunting for a criminal that took someone or something precious to them, start the campaign out with a rumor or a lead to follow or something like that.

Yeah, I've played in game where characters have secret agendas. They're only really good if the GM directs the plot to facilitate a big payoff. Otherwise, they either never come up all (in which case what was even the point?) or they just lead to a dissatisfying party wipe.
I find the big reveal is too restrictive and I trust my players to be adults and keep out of character knowledge out of the game, so when I GM I always have secrets like this shared openly with the group. Its worked out pretty well so far.

4e game ages ago.
Party thought my character was staying out of the sun due to being a dark elf. He was actually a vampire, and the reason they were constantly waking up with one less healing surge. For about the first half of the game they thought there was some sort of magical shenanigans going on.

My experience with Warhammer was buying and painting a small army in the fantasy universe, and occasionally studying codices of both 40K and Fantasy. I stopped collecting these miniatures because I was told by a few "popular" kids that it was autistic. But I've realised that there's nothing greater than being comfortable with who you are.
I am honestly interested mostly in the W40K universe as a way of being able to study a fantastical universe other than our own. So what books, codices, or other texts should I start collecting first?

Trying to understand "protection".
To what extent dos it actually protect a creature? Like obviously a creature can't be targeted by a red spell if it's got protection from red. But for example, could a foul tongue invocation force someone to sacrifice Emrakul? Or is it simply immune to all effects that result from coloured spells?
Also does targeting Thunderbreak regent with Ulamogs cast ability cause Ulamogs controller to take 3 damage?

Protection from Red, for instance, means it cannot be:
D amaged by red spells or the abilities of red permanents
E nchanted/Equipped/Attached by Red permanents
B locked by Red creatures
T argeted by Red spells or abilities from Red sources.
D E B T. Damage Enchant/Equip Block Target. That's all protection stops. Foul-Tongue Invocation does none of these to Emrakul, so it can hit Emrakul.

The handy mnemonic for protection is DEBT. Something with protection from {blah} cannot be Damaged, Enchanted/Equipped, Blocked, or Targetted by anything that is {blah}.
For Emrakul, Foul-Tongue invocation targets a player, not emrakul - so its protection doesn't apply.

156 pages, same as it was before going weekly. No indications of whether release schedule will change or pricing. Could be better or worse for leaks depending on whether it covers the past or the future. The switch to weekly did feel like a downgrade because at only 32 pages there was much left to read about after the obligatory advertising.
Hopefully Designer's Notes becomes a staple, have always felt that some of the best stuff was seeing the Design Studio and sculptors talk about why they did something. Bonus if they include concept art.
