I'm lacking some post-apocalyptic art for my next campaign. Share what you got friends, characters and other stuff. All is good.
What are some interesting/unconventional ways to gather an adventuring party on the first session? Anyone have good examples?

Can't go wrong with a slave rebellion/breakout. If it's a thing that's legal in your setting, just have the players all start out in the hands of a very powerful... "collector" of sorts. Whether it's for the purposes of arena combat, or just to show off the variety of "product" being offered to potential customers.
Just be sure to have the escape happen rather quickly before things get into some sort of S&M magical realm, OK?

I've had a DM start us out as slaves who were purchased by a bandit/mercenary who forced us to raid villages. When we decided to stop killing innocent people we made a run for it and spent the rest of the game being hunted by the bandit leader and trying to find out how to bring him down
ITT: We suggest and discuss settings with, or types of "psionics", that stay completely away from telekinesis, pyrokinesis, telepathy or any other blatant sort of universe manipulation due to "Muh Mind Powers".
For instance, I think it would be interesting to have a setting where the "gifted" folk, who would be psions or sorcerers in another setting, are just really really intelligent, not unlike the effects of the drug from the campy movie: Limitless. No external universe manipulation, only internal boon.

The main problem with that is, its not very INTERESTING to play mechanics wise. I usually play characters with average level intelligence. I personally may be a bit above average intelligence IRL, but its basically the same level. Whereas playing a supergenius can be difficult as you are actually dumbing your character down with your actions as... you are not as smart as your character should be.

What sets apart a hireling from a DMPC?

The players in the typical roleplaying game are already better than the normal person... so all you have to do for hireling is make them normal people. They're not the heroes because they're too incompetent, cowardly, weak,or have an actual sense of self-preservationect. A DMPC is a DM character who's actually on par with the players. A hireling is just meant to be some schmuck normie the party paid to do something for them.

Lots of rope.
A grappling hook, some pitons and a hammer too.
Just too damn useful.
Lock a door by nailing a piton on the inside of it.
Rescue people from pit traps with rope.
Trip pursuers with rope.
Take down riders with it too.
Climb shit
Swing over chasms
Tie up prisoners
Hang That Guy.
So many uses from three common items.
Dont forget that tieing the rope to a rock can be used as a makeshift weapon and trap tripper

Been written before, a few times.
The question becomes, where do players fit in? Why does this elaborate backstage reality make a difference to the PC's? How would they even interact with these gods? If they can't then why do the gods matter?
I may have the free time to write an rpg soon, but I want to do something unusual that hasn't been done so much it's a cliche (grimdark future, fantasy, bitchy supernaturals, etc). But I don't want it to be so unusual that no one plays it because there's no demand for it. Therefore I am asking: what do you think hasn;t been done that there's a demand for? Or at least hasn't been done well that there might be demand for.

Any tips for role-playing as a girl when you're a boy irl? How do I not play either a man with tits or a sexiest caricature?
Assuming this is not a bait thread:
I've never tried it so I can't offer any tips, I will say though that whatever you do try not to annoy your DM or fellow players.
Instead of specifically trying to think of gendered traits, think of how being a girl woulda changed your character growing up in the setting. For example, if you're playing a female fighter in a setting where most fighters are men, think of what attitude she'd develop about that. Like, maybe they are overly aggressive to prove themselves. Or maybe they are more meek and reluctant to show off their talent in front of people. Then just mark that as a character trait like any other and stick to it.
That show is terrible and hasn't aged well at all.

In Shadowrun my players were hired by interests trying to stop Aztlan from taking over a chunk of northern Amazonia. The players were supposed to work in conjunction with a bunch of mercs fighting for Amazonia, with the player team doing wetwork, espionage and sabotage. Yep. My players let themselves get carted off to an alien prison cell when they were the only hope to stop the invasion force from killing everyone they knew.
Suppose you're DMing a game, and you just had a bunch of NPC thugs demand some money from the PCs. They're way weaker than the characters they're trying to extort, and if the PCs want, they can kill these guys with little effort.
Would you give them more XP (or equivalent if you're playing a system without it) for
A) Killing all the thugs for their presumption
B) Intimidating them into scurrying off?
Both approaches solve the problem, same exp
Bonus if they roleplay either well
I don't do EXP, I level everyone up at appropriate plot points.
A, mostly because B yields 0.

While Rene and (most of) her crew gets used to the terribly cold mountains of Tordo and head for its nameless capital, Cicero's investigative mind is put on looking over what they've learned so far about who could've stolen the last pages. To him, he points out to Rene, it's quite clear that whoever did this is someone seemingly-loyal to the Empire. No one else could've gotten INTO Xerxes' room, let alone defiled his personal artifacts without anyone learning of their existence. But who could've done such a thing..?
