Hypothetically speaking, I'm going to assume the fall itself wasn't particularly lethal if wizard could life through it, so maybe if the rest of the team jumped down the pit as well and helped dispatching the slimes, the wizard might have lived, yes?

But anyway, after the environmental catastrophe such an impact would create calms down, whatever nation it lands in immediately lays claim to it and throws enough of its military into defending it that it sets the rest of the world on edge. A few of them would probably get AdMech-level stupid with their delvings into unfamiliar tech, dooming the world to nuclear holocaust or somesuch.

We're playing a game based on Might & Magic VI, so that's already the plot.
Further cements ARDA's belief that the portal leads to an alien world, rather than a parallel Earth. They would follow with attempts dismantle, and strip the ship of useful techand resources.

I have a dilma, /tg/.
I'm about to start DMing for a group full of people I've never met at the behest of someone I've dated, who will also be playing. The logical thing to do seems to be to do a preliminary, one-off adventure/dungeon so I can get a feel for how the group operates and how everybody plays before throwing them into a campaign proper.
My issue is coming up with that "feeler" dungeon. I'm half-tempted to use something like Tomb of Horrors or some comparable pre-established crawl, but since I don't know the players I'm...

Do not run Tomb of Horrors. That is a terrible introduction to RPGs.
I have a DM who, without exception, starts every campaign at a bar. The bar has run out of booze, because the workers are to scared to go into the basement that's become infested with giant rats. PCs go downstairs and kill the rats.
You can spice this up any number of ways. Unsafe staircases and floorboards. The rats are diseased. Turns out the bartender is actually a rat too. There are no rats, just thugs who try to rob the players.

Wanted to know what people thought of a combat system I created as my first "crash course" in TCG creation. I wanted a system that reflected more on movesets, and a fast-paced action orientation (think KD for babies).
Basically, your character's stats would obviously judge IF your character can wield certain weapons, and HOW effective they can be used! Totally up for suggestions, and don't really care if the idea is taken and reworked by another.

Were you thinking of taking it as a CCG/deckbuilder or as a crunch for a more traditional RPG? Because I can see it working well both ways.

Kinda card-based, with a classical D&D roleplaying mechanic as filler inbetween the action-oriented combat. Cards would be for armor and weapons, while the rest is on a traditional sheet.

That is awsome
The RuneQuest 6 guys put out their free off of Mythras with the core releasing Julyish. Looking through it they were not kidding about the formatting. The free document is now down to 34 pages (previously 203 pages) making it very much a lightweight game without a lot of detail.
I like the new layout a lot, it's a much better rules reference now and the new character sheet is an improvement. I think I might pick up the full core book instead of relying on my RQ6 book.

What's going on with Runequest IP? I read in another thread that Chaosium is releasing their own 7e? It seems like 6e just came out and was barely supported.

6e came out in 2012, has an active community, 4-5 setting books, 4-5 supplements, a few adventures, a combat effect app for android, and gets continued support as Mythras. That's not bad.
Chaosim took the license back for 7e and then announced they are making it a reprint of 2e. And that's after they flat reprinted 2e.

I'm reading through Mythras light and it appears to cover futuristic combat and skills appropriate to a scifi setting. I didn't realize they were going in that direction.

Can get a little repetitive, but I come back to it and have fun pretty often.
There are only 4 factions, but those are the main factions for the setting. Could use a few more maps imho.

Last time I check updates and forums, it was a full of people complaining they weren't including factions that weren't in the core Mordheim ttg, and saying that the game was 'incomplete' because of it.
Hey! I'm taking a crack at writing up a lil system for me and my friends to use. I don't expect to make anything fantastic or groundbreaking, but I do want to try my hardest. The only thing is, I only have so much of an understanding of dice, which in many systems, is the crux of every event! Can you help me gain an understanding of what dice are good for what situations? I get the idea that smaller dice are better for simpler resolutions, and larger dice add more possibilities and flexibility, but you also can't just slap one type of dice on every action unless...

Normally not much, but the current group sometimes because one of the players is an artist so likes to draw our characters.
Specifically the current game it matters, since it's a superheroes game so costume matters.

Not usually very much, just enough to have an adventuring outfit and an everyday outfit, normally. If I need formal wear, I'd think that up on the spot.
When I played a teen girl in a short-lived game about a magic school, I did actually detail her entire wardrobe because I thought it would be fitting.

I encourage him. It's created a lot of memorable inside jokes and the players credit me/"my games" with providing so many fun evenings and campaigns.
He's doing half my work for me, he feels good getting the laughs as its how he likes to interact, and nobody seems unable to take serious stuff seriously when they have to. Everybody is happy. Doesn't seem like a problem.
So, I'm going to start by saying I've only DMed for about a year and a half and have had only 4 groups (2 ongoing), but when I first came to /tg/ back then for DMing advice, one of the most consistent points I got told was

You got differing perspectives on how much and what to plan anyway, but it was pretty unanimous that the players will run off in weird directions I'd never even thought of.
So far, at least, that hasn't happened. I mean, I obviously can't...

I've gotten complaints, but not relating to railroading or being too directional.
Most of my complaints I get is that I put in too little action and too much dialog or investigation. And that my fights can on occasion, be too "puzzle-like", that there's a right approach or way to ambush the enemy, and if you don't do it, the fight is too tough.
The advice you're given stems largely from the fact hat 99.999% of players are complete fucking retards and ridiculous spergs who care nothing for the plot or the tone of the game and just want to muderhobo their way through a session and make bad jokes out of everything they encounter.
The corollary to this is that if your players aren't the ACTIVE type of stupid that is described above, they're more likely to be the PASSIVE type of stupid, and require you to drag them by the nose through a plot because they can't choose or figure anything out on their own.
The inevitable question is "Are any players not stupid?" to which the answer is, no.
Would Mouse Guard be a fine game to host to earn first GMing experience?

Well, there's nothing "revitalizing" can accomplish for a literal self-insert character. Snowflakes, maybe. It all really comes down to execution and the setting itself, whether it's done in an interesting way that fits the story.
