You are Kusajishi Riku, Captain of the Ninth Division of the Seireitei Court Guard. At the moment you find yourself squaring off against what may be the most difficult opponent you've faced so far in your life: yourself.
Your doppelganger stands the same height as you, has all of your features right down to your eyelashes, and carries the same relaxed demeanor. Her two swords are outwardly identical to yours as well: Tenkotsuki's copy being suspended blade-down from her sash while Kobara no Tachi's is worn blade-up and tucked through it.
However the image is not exactly mirrored, much to your relief: on your clone's wrist is an ornate sliver bracelet, which is of a design you've never seen before and certainly do not own. Why go the trouble of producing a near-perfect copy but add such a visible detail you can't rightly say, but in any event it doesn't really help you fight her. What it does mean is that you can probably use that visual cue to distinguish the real Yoruichi from HER copy, against whom she's already fighting.
The other Riku smiles confidently. “I'd hoped to get a chance to meet you, Riku. I wanted to be the one to tell you that you're no longer needed... It's only appropriate.”
With an almost blinding speed the other Riku draws her sword and crosses the room in an instant, a ferocious strike aimed at your neck only barely stopped in time by Tenkotsuki's blade. The enormous force behind the swing, its laser-like precision... everything about her is familiar to you. It's your strength. It's your speed. They're your movements, following your own style and technique, developed from your own centuries of experience and observation. If anything it feels almost as if she's a bit better at it than you somehow, despite there being absolutely no immediately discernible differences to account for that feeling.
>1/?
>>47837698
“I can see it in your eyes,” the other Riku tells you with a smirk as your swords lock close, subtly shifting and sliding against each other to win the battle of leverage. “You're frantically asking yourself how perfect a clone I am. Well, allow me to answer that question with another question...”
You feel yourself losing out ever so slightly in the meeting of blades, and decide to drive your knee forward into your attacker's gut only to find your counterattack met with her own leg. A second snap-kick to the side of her head as your blades slide past each other is blocked with her arm, and a second slash with her “Tenkotsuki” finds only air as you take advantage of hirenkyaku to reverse your momentum and slide around to take her back.
“What point would there be in merely copying you?” she asks, having used her own hirenkyaku to escape. Yet again, your own carefully-practiced movement has been used against you. “Why settle for a stalemate?”
“You're implying you're better than me somehow?” you grunt, knocking her fist away and striking at her ribs with Tenkotsuki's hilt. “How's that work?”
Her elbow quickly drops to disrupt your attack as you exchange a furious series of blows and counter-blows. “Secret.”
“Of course.”
So far this exchange has accomplished nothing but make you wonder if one of the Privaron Espada actually got in a lucky shot, and you're actually in a delusional state lying on the ground back in Karakura town. You're not sure which of the scenarios would frustrate you the most, but thinking back on the Privaron Espada it seems much more likely that this is real.

That means you'll need to find some means of gaining back momentum, something you can leverage against your clones to steal back a clear advantage. As the two Yoruichis continue to trade massive blows at an insane pace you may well find it harder to tell them apart at a glance, as their shunpo have the effect of shuffling them around when you're not looking. Though with the stakes as high as they are here it's less like a shell game, and more a strange sort of roulette. You also spare your opponent a thought: if she's anything like you she's waiting to gauge your abilities before taking you down in one overwhelming assault.
You can't let that happen, no matter what line of attack you decide to pursue.
>Figure out quickly which is your Yoruichi and tag out with her. Face her clone instead.
>Attack in Shikai, try and work out what the differences between you and your clone are.
>Go all-out, see if this wanna-be you can keep up with the real deal.
>Try to lure the clones into attacking each other: it worked great against the Privaron Espada.

Why can't elves and humans be friends?
because elves come to our country and steal out jobs
FOR 500 YEARS
The same reason elves and orcs can't be friends.
None.
Because any relationship that isn't at least 100 years old is an acquaintanceship at best.

"There, this is my maximum power."
"Very good.
At this level you would prove a challenge to an ordinary captain.
Now all we need to do is remove your mask to push you even further."
"Did I say that I was finished?"
That's what the Vasto Lorde just said and as such Kaname was confused about the situation.
The hollow clearly said two things that contradict each other.
Either it lied about releasing all of its power or it was spouting nonsense.
So Tōsen was clearly confused, he simply blinked a few times before opening his mouth.
"That doesn't ma-"
But the Kaizar just cut him off.
"This is my maximum power."
He then crouched down and began shouting
"AND THIS IS ME GOING EVEN FURTHER BEYOND!"
A huge blastwave then gets released from his body, traveling through the air and shaking the trees of Vanaheim.
The azure trees sway back and forth from the incredible amount of wind and the sand under his feet began to flow outward.
As his power keeps on rising sweat begins to appear on Kanames forehead in response to witnessing such an incredible change in power.
But at least now he understands what it meant, a pseudo-transformation that results in a massive increase in power.
With the constantly increasing torrent of reiatsu Tōsen is starting to feel overwhelmed, the power of the menos was previously at the point where it could fight against the weaker captains or even some of the unreleased Espada but now with that kind of reiatsu he might even be capable of giving a challenging fight to the currently lowest ranking Espada.
When the power-up procedure ends Kaizar shouts at the top of his lungs.
"ASSAULT MODE!"
With a final wave of reiatsu you finish your power up sequence.
It was much harder than ever before, probably due to how unused you are to your new body.
But what matters is the end result and it was very much worth it.
It might have taken a lot more energy than before and you also didn't get an equal amount of power in return, in fact the power boost is exactly the same as when you were but a mere Adjuchas, your powered up form is a lot more stable now.
Previously it took a great amount of concentration for the built up power to not kill you but now you feel a much firmer grasp on the ability.
And while previously you felt the need to constantly move around just so you could divert your attention from the ungodly amounts of pain that you were in, now it's much more manageable. It still hurts like a bitch but it's not as bad as before.
Meanwhile Kaname is clearly worried about your little power boost.
"What's this?!"
He says, his voice is almost shaking.
You move your arm around to test the waters, each motion feels like it carries incredible power.
When you swiftly lower your hand a small gust of wind flies off behind you.
This combined with your new appearance gives quite a menacing sight, too bad your audience is blind.
Just as you are about to speak the enclosing pressure of the other arrancars quickly stops you.
The crowd consists of the Espada, Neliels group and your friends, each of them have an expression of awe mixed with fear.
Pesci is the one who speaks up first.
"Well, that explains it.
It's just the Boss going overboard."
"Yeah, but look!
He looks bizarre."
Alex adds to him.
Indeed, your appearance is a bit different from when you were an Adjuchas.
Your armor is still crimson red but now you have much less of it and in addition your veins seem to be glowing as well.
And add to that the bloodshot eyes and the seam emanating from your body and you get quite an intimidating image.
You finally shift your gaze to Tōsen.
"Assault Mode.
This is what I use when I want to make sure someone I dislike dies."
It seems that he is not amused by this, in fact it seems that he managed to regain his composure as well.
"Very well.
I'll relay to Captain Aizen that you are not as much of a waste as I previously believed.
But don't get carried away, you are not as intimidating as you believe yourself to be."
He says while adjusting his goggles.
"And as long as you are not a member of the Espada you are still disposable.
Now, unless you want trouble I recommend you tear that mask of yours away.
I'd rather be done with this fast, I detest being surrounded by monsters."
It seems that he still believes he can order you around.
>Comply and tear off your mask, no need for hostility just yet.
>"Why? My presentation is only about to begin!" (Showcase your power to Kaname to intimidate him)
>Attack him. You won't answer to someones servant. (Might result in the Espada stepping in.)
>Other? (write-in)

This picture perfectly describes why 3.5 is an amazing RPG system.
All games have been broken by your definition then.
It's just that they're not so popular as to have as many people care.

Only because it has a kitsune on it.
I am going to be in a homebrew campaign but mainly stay in Absalom.
What kind of Animal Companion are "normal" in the city? Camel? Axe Beak?

Giant centipede. Wear it wrapped around your torso like armor and get it to spit venom on things out of your sleeves or something.

How do you relate D&Ds currency to players? I always explain everything in chickens, especially when people are talking about relative value of a thing. Then the DM is have the barkeep charge you 5gp for something I will almost always pipe in with "But thats 250 chickens worth!"

Well, after further inspection the Mystic DOES share an awful lot of the Binder's play style. It just doesn't fit the flavor at all and is Int based instead of Cha. But that does seem like a better starting point than the warlock mechanically.
>>47819356
>5e doesn't really work well with the concept of abilities having costs for failure.
But that's where all the flavor is... Not to mention that the only cost is specifically an RP thing since it just gives you some disfigurement and a personality quirk.
I do see now though that it doesn't fit warlock mechanically even if it does fluffwise.

Try these on for size.
>2: Your touch can temporarily transmute wood of one common variety into another, repair warps and bends, scarring, fire damage, rot, or inflict any of the same. This effect lasts one hour or until you lose concentration (as if you were concentrating on a spell).
>6: As an action, you can cause plants to spring from a surface and become overgrown. The area effected must be contiguous, but can otherwise take any shape you desire. The plants are treated as difficult terrain, and optionally lightly obscured. You alter terrain in 5 square foot increments, and can alter a maximum of 5 square feet per your Wizard level times two per long rest. The plants wither after 10 minutes.
In case that's not clear, a level 6 Wizard can make 12 tiles of plants per long rest, spread out across however many actions he wants; it could be two tiles one time, four tiles the next, another four tiles a few minutes later, and finally two more tiles.
>10: As an action, you can bring about a permanent change in plantlife. Within mere instants, you can age a tree or other large individual plant many years and contort its growth as you desire, or reverse its size and age to a state in the distant past. Acting on general foliage, you can make an area equal to 5 square feet per Wizard level permanently overgrown (difficult terrain and lightly obscuring) or make a similarly hindering patch of plantlife easy to pass. You can also, instead, cause flowering trees and plants within an equal area to produce their associated fruits instantly, or double their yield if they were nearly in season. Once you use this feature, you cannot use it again until you finish a long rest.

Just take the Mystic, turn all Int into Cha stuff, make up new rules for binding pacts, and replace the disciplines with bound entities. You're not making an archetype, you're making an entirely new class that's based on Mystic the same way Ranger or Barbarian are based on the Fighter.

What's the difference between acting OOC and metagaming?
Have you ever played with someone who metagamed? How did it go?
>>47823465
Acting out of character means you are doing so0mething your character wouldn't do.
Metagaming means you are using out of game knowledge to inform the decisions of your character.
So you acting OOC can be caused by metagaming. It could however also be you just mischaracterizing your character by ignoring the background you've given him or doing another acting based mistake.
>>47823465
I get accused of "Metagaming" quite often, but it's always in cases that I wouldn't consider metagaming. Coming from an OSR background, I often rely more on player knowledge or experimentation. I'll give a couple of examples.
>Party is walking through the woods, expecting an ambush. The DM describes voices mimicking what we say. I tell the party, "Be prepared for an ambush. I think it may be Kenku or Tengu. Something of that nature."
>DM gets mad and yells, "You're metagaming! You have to make a check before you can know that!"
>Playing a Barbarian character. We come across a trap in a dungeon. I start to examine it and ask for specific characteristics about the trap. It seems rather simple, so I should just be able to describe how I would take care of it. It's a simple trip wire trap, meant to snare small animals and the like.
>No, you're not a rogue, and you have to roll to see if you're knowledgeable enough to take it apart.
There's a reason I stick to oldschool stuff.
>>47823748
That second example seems more of a lack of skill than knowledge, though. If an engineer can't take the trap apart simply because he lacks rogue levels, I call BS. But the woodsy Ranger who knows literally nothing of mechanisms more complex than "attach rope to stick, use to shoot arrow forward"? He probably sets off the trap.
What sort of things do you find up in the Northern wastelands? Lovecraftian horrors lurking under the ice? Frozen monsters? Ancient ruins? Alien crash sites?

>Fuckscary penguins
>Tonight. You.
>>47823066
Massive amounts of largely unexplored and unexplorable territory populated by Giants and arcane experiments gone wrong.
Occasional corpses of the inhabitants of this area in positions of terror, preserved in the ice and snow.
Eventually there's a bodies of a large and probably dangerous creature. The players will probably expect some even badder beastie to be murdering these people and creatures, but what actually happened is a very nasty and fast flash freezing happened a very long time ago due to magical fuckery and all these things died from that since they were completely unprepared for the cold.
80s and 90s cartoon and video game fantasy was the tits, /tg/. He-Man, Thundercats, D&D, even the Conan cartoon. I know there's a system out which emulates this kind of setting in a rules-light way but I forget what it's called. Remind me please.
