Well /tg/, after the last sequence of flops, Vault-Tecs approval committee was fed to Deathclaws. So new parameters had to be made.

Roll a D20 using the Board Sticky, rolls higher than 10 are truths about the Vault, rolls of 20 cannot be retconned.

>'You are free, Leman Russ of Fenris, because your freedoms match the Emperor's will. For each time I wage war against worlds that threaten the Imperium's advance, there comes another time I am told to conquer peaceful worlds that wish only to be left alone. I am told to destroy whole civilizations and call it liberation. I am told to demand millions of men and women from these new worlds, to make them take up armsin the Emperor's hordes, and I am told to call this a tithe, or recruitment, because we are al ltoo scared of the truth. We refuse to call it slavery.'
>' I am loyal, the same as you. I am told to bathe my legion in the blood of innocents and sinners alike, and I do it, because it is all that's left for me in this life. I do these things, and I enjoy them, not because we are moral, or right - or loving souls seeking to enlighten a dark universe - but because al lI feel are the Buther's Nails hammered into my brain. I serve because of this "mutilation". Without it? Well, perhaps I might be a more moral man, like you claim to be. A virtuous man, eh? Perhaps I might ascend the steps to our father's palace and take the slaving bastard's head.'

How is it that Angron, who is crippled with blood thirst in battle, the only one who ever looked at the Imperium this way? Are there any other Primarchs who stopped and asked themselves 'maybe we are not right in this'. I remember Horus said he was sick of conquering with war and wanted to try peace (though Erebus quickly fucked that up) but did any go as far as to stop and ask why?

Also Horus Heresy lore thread and general 'X is best Primarch' thread.

He was already well inclined to hate the Emperor, and having come from a slaves background was particularly sensitive to such things. You notice most of the taitor primarchs started off as the underclass and won control of their worlds against tyranny.
>>
>>43961145
I'm sure some of the more reasonable Primarchs like Sanguinius or Vulkan had questions and got satisfactory answers.

Neither seems to be interested in war for wars sake, even compared to some of their loyalist brothers like Khan or Russ.
>>
>>43961166
I'd say as many loyalists did as well. I know Pert and Magnus were upper class on their homeworlds from the start.

I've actually been fiddling with something (wouldn't call it a system, just a bunch of rules and stuff right now) that has the players play as a band of skeletons in a worldwide graveyard. You fight, scavenge and thrive. Or you die, and your bones are used for some other to advance. Think of something along the lines of Monster Hunter: Spooky Scary Skeleton Edition. Complete with dragon, kraken, mammoth, and even abomination skeletons

If he dies it will be a huge blow to moral now. Colonist throw out the near by colonies are singing about him standing up to Earth's goons. Any ideas on how we can keep him alive? We don't have a chance against Spartans...

Flee, hide.

The character is basically dead if you stay out in the open, and he probably is even if you hide.

Maybe fake a death?
>>
Your odds against a lone Spartan are very slim. Against a fireteam, it's so low as to be next to nothing. Run, hide, get the hell out, or give ONI something more important to worry about.

Hey guys,

I just thought of a really great balancing mechanism for role-playing games.

>The greater your proficiency with a skill, the more likely you are to accidentally use that skill.

This should prevent characters from becoming overpowered once they reach higher levels.
147 posts and 8 images submitted.
>>
I... Don't understand. Why does this improve anything?
>>
>>43958570
What? So if i'm really good at painting i will suddenly start to draw all over someone's face in the middle of a conversation?
>>
>>43958570
>>The greater your proficiency with a skill, the more likely you are to accidentally use that skill.

I can see the rational behind this. Someone who fences all the time takes a fencing pose when they play air hockey. Someone who paints constantly is always aware of how the colours inside a building clash and how the shadow is totally off.

But how does this stop characters from become overpowered?

If anything, doesn't that make it worse? That they're constantly using something they have a huge skill level in for tests that are only partially related?

The bird isn't made of gaseous form.

You are Siris Erickson, and you are a mutant. This is hardly surprising, considering both of your parents are mutants, and you grew up surrounded by mutants. Despite being somewhat of a late bloomer with your powers, the leaders of the Xavier Institute saw incredible potential in you and your abilities. With the ability to control the wavelength and frequency of light, as well as emit light from your body, you could theoretically do incredible things, although that is currently limited to a limited control over the light in the surrounding area and the ability to concentrate light into a laser. Both of which tend to give you painful headaches, and you can only do those with the help of a specially created suit. You were accepted into the Xavier Institute mid-year despite the late arrival of your powers, and you have been accepted into the Paragons squad.

A week has passed since the end of your intense and exciting, if a bit distressing, first week at the Xavier Institute. Life has more or less returned to a new normal, with you falling into a semi-daily ritual fairly quickly. You adapt incredibly well to life at Xavier’s, likely due to your own experiences with mutants. Nothing too exciting happens during the week, the most interesting thing being the field day exercises you and your squad do occasionally.

Old Thread >>43920250

"But why GURPS?"

1) The splatbooks/worldbooks are universally written by people who know what they're talking about. The Fantasy book is written by archaeologists and historians, the Space book is written by astrophysicists, the Guns book is written by gun experts, etc. The factual mistakes are few and far between, and almost always acknowledged later. They give great advice on how to make believable worlds, how FTL affects society, how magic changes warfare, how real supernatural elements change secret societies... or how to ignore all realism and make whatever setting you want in a way that players can't take advantage of. They're great reads, even if you don't use the system.

2) GURPS has rules to handle anything. You don't need to use them all (why bother with rules for asphyxiating in a vacuum in a game about biker gangs?) but they're there. So if a game doesn't go where you expect, and your party of adventurers buy a wagon and start managing a merchant caravan company, there are books to support that style of play in a systemic way, integrated with the core rules in a way that makes sense. This also makes it great for crazy blends of game. Dungeonpunk with automatic firearms? Yes.

3) GURPS by default uses "heroic realism". This is when the odds on the heroes' sides but reality doesn't bend for them. Two bullets will knock a human unconscious (but not immediately kill him - this is fairly realistic) but hitting a moving target more than 100m away in a firefight is hard as hell. It suits games that go for a realistic or gritty feel and gives a break from the slightly cartoony damage sponges in games like D&D but can be customised with optional rules to change the feel from "Fuck You, There Are No Heroes and the World is Shit" right up to "The Heroes are Good and Always Triumph Over Evil". Incidentally, what makes it heroic realism also makes it the best game on the market to play a game about Operators Operating Operationally.
>>
Which is better, Sorcery or Ritual Path Magic?
>>
>>43957530
I think Ritual Path Magic is more interesting, but only works if the players care enough to actually read it and understand enough to use the system without you doing everything for them.

Sorcery is better if the GM wants tight reign on the system or wants a system that supports high power levels easily.

Become The Dragon Quest 28

You are Countess Kotijah Imidarius, and you want to be a dragon. You have known since your birth that you wanted to be one of them, to be among your ancestors, a true dragon. Instead you have been confined to something less, something lacking the grace, ferocity and raw power that you deserve.

Last night you celebrated your hard-won victory over the Order of Oak with a party, and after several rounds of drinking and risque games you wound up in bed with Taret. It was... nice. After everything Kat told you, you were expecting your first time to be a hectic and frenzied fuck-fest, but instead everything was careful, gentle and wonderful. You'll probably have to apologize to Taret for what you did to his back, but to be fair, he earned those battle scars for dragging a third orgasm from you before he got done with you.

You awaken to the feeling of Taret pulling you closer. Your hips are still sore and you feel a little hungover, but for a few moments everything else is perfect. Allegiset didn't visit you during the night, either out of disgust or because of your new arrangement with him. You didn't lose your claws or wings, and you can still feel your magic, so it's likely the latter. You snuggle up to Taret for the time being and consider your next step.

You need to press on and claim the White Blade. You've bought yourself time, but you don't know how long, and once you have the blade you still need to travel across the kingdom to find the Red Rose and confront whatever lurks within it. Time is of the essence. That's what you tell yourself as you turn and look at Taret's sleeping face.

>Rise and shine, Starlight Knight, we're moving out
>Let Taret sleep in, he's earned it
>Find the others and discuss the next step
>No time for discussion, load up and roll out, chop chop!

The rules:
Best of three rolls, critical threat on a 20, confirmed if another roll is 20-modifier or higher. Modifier is Stat being rolled+Relevant skill. You can decide which skill to apply. If no one applies one, no skill will be added on. If you don't have a logical reason to apply a skill, don't do it.
Critical fails are at least two 1s on a roll. May expand this later to increase shenanigans.
