So /tg/, I've been messing around with Inkarnate, making shitty maps for potential campaigns. And I was wondering, how do you guys decide to fill in maps? What sort of landmarks go where. Do you just wing it as you go, or do you plan along some guidelines?
I'll post some copypasta locations I've seen on /tg/ before, OP. These are just short summaries.
God Drums - a series of large circles of barren ground amidst the eastern steppes, which produce loud echoing sound if one marches over them.
The Bloody Willow, at the center of Eis Forest. From a distance, it appears to be normal, apart from the scarlet collar of its leaves. It regularly compels people from nearby areas to come and sleep under its branches, where they die and have all of their blood drained.
Ancient civilization dies, nomadic tribe uses massive temples and buildings that were carved into a cliff face left by them to hide from tornados, floods, etc. One day earthquake collapses destroying large part of the ruins, blocking off half the tribe. Half left inside find ancient gardens and begin to restructure their society around this isolated city.

First order of business: Look at Wraith.
Secondly, hash out a primary motivation for the human character. If I read it correctly, Spirits are often attracted to places that mirror things or emotions they embody.
Therefore I suggest playing it in a way that has the Ridden at first be simply more enthusiastic about whatever their passion it, but soon descend into monomania as the spirit increases their hold on them.
Think of it like a (super)hero story. Regular people do good things. A superhero goes far beyond that in both attitude and capability.
Now twist it to the point where the would-be hero loses all sense of perspective and you've got your story.
A nature hero becomes an eco terrorist, a crime fighter moves from being Batman to being Dexter, etc etc.

Depends on what you mean. There's the nootropic network or something within the mechanicus, they have sort sort of functioning vox relays for one planet usually, but between different planets it becomes more complicated. I tend to rule that there's some sort of long-distance range between planets of a system, but in between systems you need astropaths.

So I've been wanting to try playing dnd for about 2 weeks now. I've never played before but I'm familiar with a decent amount of the mechanics. My problem however is I can't find any sort of game anywhere. I tried the card shops nearby but every time I barely miss the players or they are playing on another night. Then I try roll20.net but then i can't seem to find just a basic game and even then I can't seem to find one that works with my schedule. Idk what else to do, any advice, places to go or look or hell if anyone wants to take me under their wing I'm open for anything.

First, realize that there are some 8+ different versions of D&D with their own mechanics and playstyles, so saying you are "familiar" with the mechanics means nothing.
First, actually try when it comes to the local shops. If they have a bulletin board, put your name on it. If the shop owner isn't willing to help you out, then the shop itself is silly. When it comes to days, you need to make yourself available.
Roll20... eh, I have had no great success on it unless half the group is people I know irl, and your issue of "What D&D am I playing" really pops up.
