Expecting Modern-playable cards from MtG sets these days is like expecting deep meaningful literature from 40k novels. They are on two different planes of goals and expectations.

But seriously, how far back am I allowed to go? If we start with the set Unburial Rites is from, we also have Delver and Resto Angel to name a few.
Next block had shockland reprints, skullcrack, abrupt decay, an counterflux.
Theros block saw another reprint in Thoughseize, as well as cards like Anger of the Gods, Ashiok, Eidolon of the Great Revel, and Mana Confluence.
Khans block brought us yet another set of reprints, allowing enemy fetchlands into modern alongside their allied cousins. We also get all three cards I mentioned earlier from this block.
Between those blocks were also a couple core sets, and there were cards from those as well that see modern play. Vryn's Prodigy, Archangel of Thune, painland reprints, Chord of Calling, and various support to push elves and goblins in modern.

You are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House.
It is from this world that you will draw your future fleets and armies from. It is becoming increasingly clear to everyone that those armies are needed now.
While you are still a General in the Factions Alliance Fleet, you remain on reserve status due to the civil war. It's doubtful you'll be able to assist them with the war against the Neeran for some time.
As the Dominion begins to slip deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space.
Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander. She's been working hard to make sure your attack wings are fully trained and manned. With as much experience in the field as you there are few better to rely on.
Uyi Rna is the General of your Army. The ground forces are being expanded as quickly as they can and are drilling constantly. Army bases out in the wilderness of Rioja have been set up to practice maneuvers and planetary assaults. Most of the experienced personnel are used to working with Dominion built HLV's not Kavarian Assault transports. It's taking a bit of getting used to but they're catching on.
The General is confident that with enough time they'll be able to take on anything, but warns that an extended surface campaign would wear down your low numbers of heavy tanks.

After discussions with the diplomatic team you've devcided to take the fight to the remaining pirates plaguing the DRH 1 Relay. Houses Nasidum and Bonrah have been using them to intimidate local Houses into allying with them, weakening both the Ruling House and Helios.
According to intel Helios has attempted to send a fleet to the region by another route to avoid the blockade, but they were intercepted by a force equipped with super heavy cruisers. There isn't any word on whose fleet it was that stopped them but rumor suggests they may have been South Reach Warlords employed as mercenaries.

1778 – American Revolutionary War: British and French fleets clash in the Battle of St. Lucia.
1864 – American Civil War: Battle of Nashville: Union forces under George Thomas almost completely destroy the Army of Tennessee under John Hood.
1890 – Hunkpapa Lakota leader Sitting Bull is killed on Standing Rock Indian Reservation, leading to the Wounded Knee Massacre.

2006 – First flight of the Lockheed Martin F-35 Lightning II.
It is 151 years since the Battle of Nashville, a two-day battle that represented the end of large-scale fighting in the Western Theater of the American Civil War. It was fought between the Confederate Army of Tennessee under Lieutenant General John Bell Hood and Federal forces under Major General George H. Thomas. In one of the largest victories achieved by the Union during the war, Thomas routed Hood's army, largely destroying it as an effective fighting force.
The battle was the finale in a disastrous year for Hood’s forces. The rebels lost a long summer campaign for Atlanta, Georgia, in September 1864 when Hood abandoned the city to the army of William T. Sherman. Hood then took his diminished force north into Tennessee. He hoped to draw Sherman out of the Deep South, but Sherman had enough troops to split his force and send part of it to chase Hood into Tennessee. Sherman airily indicated that this was exactly what he wanted and that if Hood "continues to march North, all the way to Ohio, I will supply him with rations."
At Spring Hill, Tennessee, the Confederates allowed a Union division to escape from Columbia and pass by them unmolested to Franklin, a small town south of Nashville. Enraged over this missed opportunity, Hood ordered futile frontal assaults at Franklin against entrenched Federals, many of whom were armed with repeating rifles. The fierce, five-hour Battle of Franklin on November 30 decimated his force and cost him a division commander and four brigadier generals. Undeterred, he continued on and besieged Thomas’ larger force at Nashville.
There, Hood constructed works along a five-mile-long line south of the city. Between the 8,000 men lost at Franklin and those detached under Nathan Bedford Forrest, who had been sent to capture Murfreesboro, Hood’s army was down to about 20,000 men. He hoped to draw Thomas into attacking him. After repulsing those attacks, Hood reasoned, he would counterattack and take the city.

Storythread: 'just because it's almost Christmas, doesn't mean you can stop writing'-edition
If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and maybe some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).
If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. Or if you have some other inspiration building up inside, compelling you to write a story, feel free to empty your brain into this thread. It may be a campaign setting you've played, it may be a book you read, or it may just be that a daemon is visiting you in your sleep to fill your dreams with wonders and horrors. Whatever it is, your story is welcome here.
As much as this is about encouraging people to write, Storythreads are story-oriented (well duh). Therefore character bios, greentexts, recollections of games you played, general snippets of writing, etc, etc, can go elsewhere.
Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).
And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.

Requesting a man who can control the outcome/probably of anything with his voice and a very high tech microphone. (Example: A bus will hit the mayor in 2 hours if I do not receive a Ransom of $200,000 in 3 hours) he dresses like a professional with a silver/grey suit, black sunglasses and we'll kept hair, he is very ocd and hates getting dirty or failing at anything.

"Me and a friend are playing a pair of characters that are adopted siblings, and while I have some pretty decent images... posting one I've got of them as kids, I can only really change colors or add a few lines here and there... I don't have anything -great- and It would be cool if I could see then standing together, or even have the little sister ride the big ones shoulder. In any case, on to clarifying descriptions.
The big sister, Crimson, is about 9'7"(Homebrew Troll race, they're huge) with her hair tied back in a fancy braid. Her eyes are green all the way, and though it isn't represented well in the image she has a somewhat flattened nose, almost like a lions. She wears ornate black plate armor with gold accents, and wields a heavy shield in one hand. Her weapon is a gauntlet that release small amounts of pure oxygen and a spark from the knuckles to make small explosions on impact when she punches things.
The little sister, Gaige, would be about 5'2," as she's only 15 years old at the time of the campaign. One thing I don't like about this image is that it doesn't show her face or hair at all. She's pale, has a bit of a button nose, and the back of her left hand has a birthmark that looks like a flaming rose. Her hair is short to medium length black in no particular style, and her eyes are yellow with semi-vertical pupils. She still wears clothes like in the picture, but her red hood (yeah, little red riding hood was an inspiration) also has arcane runes sewn into the lining. She could be holding up one hand with a lick of flame coming out of it, she's a mage after all.

She's a human woman with her black hair in dreadlocks and has freckles.
The microwave is an injoke from my last campaign, our squadron got an inordinate number of turbolaser emplacement kills which we ended up calling microwaves, toasters etc
