So I've been watching a lot of space exploration/survival shows lately, and I realized that I have never DM'd nor played in a space fantasy campaign. My play group is interested in trying it, but, I don't know many different systems. Do anyone of you guys have suggestions on which system we should start with?
We looked at Rogue Trader briefly , but none of us are interested in the 40k universe. Are they're any good alternatives?

But you should ask them specifically what they want, since everyone has their own idea of what space is like and none of it is based in reality anyway. Spelljammer might work too if you can find modified rules for 5e or whatever.

OP, you'll want to use something along the lines of Simple Green, Castrol Super Clean (an autoparts degreaser) or non-acetone nail polish remover. Acetone (a key component of nail polish remover) will destroy plastic minis, but is fine for use on metal minis (minis their plastic bases). I typically use CSC and let both plastic and metal minis soak in a glass jar of the stuff. It's ok to leave plastic minis in CSC for very long periods without harming the plastic. You will want to use rubber gloves, eye protection, and an old tooth brush to scrub the minis and rinse off any remaining paint and residue. CSC will de-bond super glue joins, but won't harm epoxy, resin, or green stuff work.

I don't hate fun, I hate stupid lazy storytelling and lazy roleplaying that results from it. If you let your players do whatever they want on a nat20, you are not a real DM, you are a pussy who fellates his players in some opposite extreme of player v.s. DM attitude.
I am of neither attitude. I like the characters and am a fan of them and thus like watching them be bad-asses but this nat20 = free ticket to control the narrative bullshit needs to stop right the fuck now.

Im just slightly annoyed im going to move the story further than I intended to do yet, because the party isnt properly geared todo what I had in stock afterwards. But railroading to a avoid this would be wrong.

About four years ago, my mother's car got attacked by some kind of superpowered freak. It put my mother in a coma for a good while, and she's been hospitalized ever since.
Now you'd THINK that the cops would be interested in pursuing someone who would and CAN punch cars into oblivion, but pretty everyone I told about what happened laughed in my face.

Probably just elaborate on the history a bit more. Probably explain what the Elder were doing in the last 10,000 years during man's expansion. Have times odds times when peace broke out on the galactic scale. Turn down the default imperium point of view.
