How do I best run a JRPG inspired game? What system?

I mean like saving the world, starting by bashing ferocious rodents and jellies and ending by slaying planet obliterating demon gods. Also the game's mechanics, levels, etc are at least somewhat known in character.

I admit the brown elf is mostly to attract attention

It's going to require you to do a lot of work in creating a setting.

In D&D games, most of the time, the setting is divorced from the mechanics, whereas in most JRPGs, the setting and mechanics are tied together.

For instance, in a Microlite20 game I'm running, feats are tied to specific items, and magic items themselves are also tied specifically into the setting as important artifacts, and will be tightly controlled.

Additionally, magic has been thought out and integrated into the setting thoughtfully, rather than just being "AIN'T GOTTA EXPLAIN SHIT"

Hey /tg/ I was wondering if anyone on here still played Malifaux and might be able to guide me in the right direction. I was recently drawn back in by the LGS today when finding out that there is a decently sized group there. I never got to play my first crew, which was the dreamer, back in the first edition of the rules, and the guy I was talking to recommended that I build a more "forgiving" crew first as the dreamer is apparently more difficult to play now. So I've decided on Lilith as my starter, from what I've read it would seem she needs some Young nephilim and Mature Nephilim to work properly, how many would you say I need of each?
Follow up question, After picking up Lilith's crew and the nephilim, What do I need then?
What I have right now is, Dreamer+ LCB, 3x alps, 3x daydreams, 2x stitched together, Coppelius, 2x teddy, Lelu, and Lilitu.

I'm also interested In Tara and Jakob Lynch if anyone has information on them.

They were very good at killing things, and had more raw muscle and lifting capabiltiy than a marine (their greaves are unpowered, so they're in essence lifting the weight of a motorcycle 24/7 on their own shoulders) but they were still mortal; almost all of them are dead from old age; one must remember they were a thing /thousands/ of years ago by 40k, and were not for their power armour they'd become nothing but another trivial detail of the pre-imperium age lost to history.

Have magic decks but I'd love to broaden the spectrum.

Just over a year since leaving HS for college, gradually getting harder for our quartet of friends to stay in touch, only two could of us can make it to our annual NYE board game do. Being an adult gets easier, r-right?

If the Emperor has a level of precognizance/omniscience, and created the Primarch, couldn't he have thought to use his genetic abilities to heal himself after he was wounded by Horus?

Why are Magnus' Psyker biomancy abilities so much more effective than the Emperors?

This coming semester in college I'm DMing a modern day DnD campaign where the characters are all diseased in horrifying ways, but that's beside the point, I'm wondering how DMs make up plots for campaigns and missions set in the modern day. Do you look to movies and TV for inspiration? I thought I'd start with that, then add my own flair. What do you recommend?

As a hero or adventurer, would you permit an evil, murderous forest if this forest produced fruit that is effectively a macguffin as a lure?

Think things like being able to cure disease or bring people back to life by eating this fruit, or whatever happens to be really fucking hard to come by in your setting.

The forest can't really spread, so it needs to lure people in to kill 'em.

Hey all, if I remember correctly, 2nd edition 40K had armour save modifiers and other nuanced forms of crunch that disappeared in later editions (the last save modifier I remember was the 3rd edition choppas that only allowed 4+ or worse saves).

Does anyone who plays now want these things back? I like the idea of having armour save modifiers/to-hit penalties and bonuses/other nuanced forms of crunch.

Also, has anyone ever tried making a homebrew 40K that uses larger dice (d8/d10/d12... etc)? I love 40K more than any universe, but I can't stand that 5 probabilities ranging from 1/6 - 5/6 are supposed to be the basis for everything from a grot firing a shitty improvised pistol to a carnifex with giant crab claws or a plasma weapon.

Old rogue trader player here. GW decided it was too crunchy and wanted to move to a faster paced game style so out went armor modifiers and to hit modifiers with them. The last hold out of those old rules were the 3rd edition choppa rules IE any save better than 4+ is now 4+.

I guess I should have read the whole post before replying, this is what I get for being drunk.

For bringing the modifiers back just grab a copy of WHFB rules and try playing a game of 40k with them and see how it goes. We tried this once, it was different I'll give it that.

Af for the dice, it all simplifies down to about the same really. D10s would be interesting, but I think d6s are the happy medium. But that's just my two cents worth.
