You frown as your pack starts to wiggle behind you. Unless Hom has broken out and is somehow manifesting a body on his own, it means that Zigzag has had enough and wants out. Why does she always have to be such a pain in the arse?

You stand back up and ask the secretary about toilets, doing your best to keep your pack inconspicuous as you do so. She looks faintly disgusted but eventually directs you down the hall into what appears to be a communal lavatory, no doubt used by the accountants on their breaks....

Definitely not letting her fuck this up. Make sure she's in snake form before we knock her out though. I don't trust her to change back otherwise.

How many universes are there like this? Empty, that is. Devoid of the vibrations of energy and matter. A canvas, with the WORD yet unspoken in it. Witness knows. Witness has seen these worlds spiral out from the start of the fractality of existence, and Witness has seen them die - heat deaths of an awful, endless stillnes born of billions of millenia of decay, sunderings in faster than the blink of an eye.

Witness is not a God. He cannot speak the WORD. But perhaps, when one arrives, we can begin the start of everything.

Rolling to create a star. Every interval of 10 is another star.

The creation process is pretty simple; I can create a star, my burning children, with a divine soul of another god. Either given willingly as a sacrifice or a lover, or unwillingly as a victim or meal. More divine souls, more stars.

So I'm starting my first campaign soon and I'm split on whether I want to use a Longfang or a Direlance. Is one particularly better than the other? Are the benefits of Reach, Two-Handed, and being able to use it while mounted worth getting a Direlance over a Longfang?
>>
>>44478513
Direlance also has +1 Defense and Overwhelming, and +2 Damage, over a Longfang, at the price of -2 Accuracy.

Really, though, the question is: Would your character ever throw his spear? If yes, take a Longfang, if no, take a Dire Lance.(And, of course, whichever one gives you the stats you'd prefer.)
>>
>>44478814
Wait, nyx that +1 Defense. My bad. I thought they were light and medium, not medium and heavy, for some reason.

Natural energy fields or pacts with primal spirits. Like radiation, it can be quite dangerous.

The gods.

Everything comes from them.

The difference between divine magic and arcane is that clerics make 'pacts' with the gods to use their power directly. Wizards take the surplus power the gods emit and shape them by sheer force of will.

Dwarven cavalry, last son of a lost clan. The GM was using down-season rules circa Pendragon, I ended up rolling a courtship. Jouri wedded a moneychanger's daughter, and lost her in the spring to a wasting fever.

Further proof the gods hate him.

Yeah, when they were staying in some village out in nowhere over the winter in order to investigate and get rid of unidentified mysterious supernatural phenomenon. He shacked up with a villager. She was mostly just a convenient tool for communicating the village's attitude towards the group as the time went by and not much was accomplished. When the group left the village she stayed, no drama involved or anything. Never really had a character and NPC grow close outside of that.
>>
Me personally neverwith an NPC, always with other PCs (which is obviously somewhat out of scope) but I have played in games where it happened. Like, one of my character's best friend ended up marrying his cousin.

And it really varies but what it definitely does is give the GM more opportunities to fuck with your character.

You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, and you are standing in General Kenobi's improvised command center, the basement of an obsolete concrete bunker.

Six hours ago AT-TE 7330, the hastily repaired TX-130, and the remainder of the General's forces began the mop up operation of the B-1 battle droid stragglers. Afterwards, a relief force mostly consisting of Loyalist infantry arrived and began the search for survivors as well as taking over the garrison of the location, allowing for Kenobi and your two tanks to retreat back to the main base of Republic operations in the southern hemisphere, Shelter Base.

You have just finished providing your debrief of the battle, which you learned was for the control of the city of Jaxx.

You informed him and Commander Cody of all aspects of the battle excluding the discussion with Xtreme concerning Sparks going "off the reservation," Twitch's "marketplace," and other minor details about your first 24 hours in combat. You reexplained the encounter with the lightsaber user in more detail, bring up Crusader's sword fight with him when the General expressed his disbelief that mere clones were able to defeat a force user. Your report was concise, professional, and above all, utterly exhausting.

You are now standing at attention in a musty, poorly lit concrete room before the General, who is leaning on his hands at the edge of a battered holographic gambling table. On the table is an old paper map of the area, the table deactivated due to the number of fellow troopers setting up a generator in the corner, running power lines, setting up better lighting, and doing everything else to create a proper command center.

Fatigue clings to your muscles and you feel yourself struggle to maintain a stiff posture, though a small part of you is glad to see that the General is sagging with weariness. He rubs his eyes.

"Being caught unprepared by a Separatist attack, by a full division no less, facing nuclear weapons, all with an understrength battalion? It sounds like you had quite the day, Lieutenant, and I'm surprised that you were able to not only survive but successfully repel their assault." Kenobi says before slowly standing back upright.

He crosses one arm across his chest and rests a hand on his chin before continuing, "Though unfortunately we suffered severe losses. I am afraid that I may have to label the 4th Battalion as unfit for duty and fold the remaining soldiers into another outfit."

Cody cuts in for the first time. "General, you know the Senate will be unhappy about the casualties if you declare the 4th Battalion defunct."

The General sighs, pinching his nose with two fingers. "Yes, I know Commander, but what would you have me do? Reinforcements are spread thin as it is across the Outer Rim!" Kenobi slams his hand down on the edge of the old table, causing you to flinch back. You stay staunchly silent in the discussion.

"The few reinforcements we would receive will be cut off due to the Senate's outrage at the news that a whole battalion was killed nearly to a man on the first day of an invasion, sir." Despite his stiff posture and balled fists. Cody does his best to maintain a professional tone.

Kenobi shakes his head, gesturing with his free hand as he speaks. "I am well aware of the situation Commander, I just do not see a way out of it. The chain of command for the 4th Battalion has been completely destroyed, and I can't rightfully send raw enlisted into battles without good officers."

"Sir, not all the officers were lost." Cody turns his attention towards you, nodding his head. "I see an officer who has proved himself in battle right here."

As the General turns to face you, you cannot halt the anxiety from boiling in your gut. Nor can you halt the sliver of excitement as well, in response you subtly straighten your posture.

"You are right, he did lead the defense against the final Separatist assault, and held off an entire battalion with only his walker and Bandit's scout company." After a thoughtful pause, Kenobi whips his head back towards Cody with an incredulous expression. "You are not suggesting we hand over control of the whole battalion to him?"

Cody shakes his head. You hear a dark chuckle emit from his helmet. "No sir, but stranger things have happened in this war. Until a replacement is comes in from Kamino, CT-42/458 is technically the commanding officer of the 1st Armored Company, and his leadership quotient is high, according to the reports we received from the training instructors."

Pride wells up inside of you. You did graduate top of your birthing cycle, after all. "The 4th Battalion can still live on in name, though it would have to work closely with one of the other battalions in future operations." Cody gives you a sidelong look and tilts his head slightly to the side. Though you cannot see, you get the feeling that he just winked at you.

"Well, it is true that a shipment of replacements is arriving in a week," Kenobi says slowly while stroking his beard. You feel uncomfortable at the glint in his eyes. "And while I normally would be concerned about the company's ability to field armor, the repairs on the damaged vehicles are going swimmingly, though sadly not all can be saved. Also, we have to establish the chain of command for the incoming officers." Like a predator locking onto their prey, Obi-Wan Kenobi's eyes lock with yours. You really do not lik-

"1st Lieutenant CT-42/458, you are hereby promoted to the acting commanding officer of the 1st Company." You feel a hand patting your shoulder as your world swirls, your confidence wavering. You, in command of an entire Company?

"While I am sorry to say that your forces are, well, let's say a little sparse at the moment," Why does the General sound amused?

> [Cont.]

>>44467057
"I am sure that you will be able to pull it off. In the meantime, your forces will be attached to-" The metal door squeaks behind you, the sound echoing what is going on in your thoughts right now, and clipped steps enter the room. Kenobi breaks out into a wide smile. "Ah, here he is now! 1st Lieutenant, meet your temporary superior officer."

"It's bloody fine to finally meet you, Lieutenant." You recognize the gruff voice you have only heard over comms up to now. Rigidly...

I'm trying to write a realistic as possible'dinosaurs evolve sapience' so I can have a setting with an intelligent dinosaur race based on troodons living alongside humans, and all the fun that entails.

However, I'd like to make something better than the shitty Dawkins 'Dinosaurid'. For one, its outdated-it doesn't even portray Troodon and its sentient descendants with feathers, which we know now Troodon had in abundance. Two, Dawkins 'dinosauroid' is just a freaking green-skinned human. It's like he didn't even try.

Continuing from the last thread about a growing kobold operated mercenary company in a fantasy setting.

Lots of flintlock rifles, alchemists and steampunk technology to make up for their physical weakness, replacing loyalty to something like a dragon with a sense of Esprit de Corps that they become all but immune to fear while in larger groups with the moral officers (bards) shouting inspiring war songs.

Ultimate goal is building a new kobold civilization, motivated by long simmering frustration at being treated like scaly rodents by most any humanoid races.

Currently though you are in a robe sitting at a table with your girlfriend pondering what you will do since its your day off. You know on off days the teachers organize dungeoneering stuff. Most concrete example so far is cloud giants taking to venus-like worlds or gas giants, living in aerostats and generally being stuck up cosmic sages.

Once, in the far west, the harpies ruled over the land-creatures, lived from those who were weak and fought countless enemies.

Everything changed when the insectoids appeared: ables to fly and with infinite hunger they killed everything in land, and then they came for the skies.

Most of the west is desolated now, at the other side of the Rotten Mountains a small group of harpies fled looking for a new home.
