Silly GM, there are no girls on the Internet
>>44496862
Definetly boy.
Women get raped in xianxia anyways.
You are Irue Valen, blood-heir to a house of nobility whose influence and renown may have been enough to negotiate the construction of a summer house on Fae lands. You're not really sure about that, even though you've lived most of your life in said house, and it actually has nothing to do with what was going on right now. In the past few months, you went from a sheltered and naive noble who thought the world would simply fall into your lap when you got older, to... Well, you suppose you're slightly less sheltered now, and the prospect of the world falling into your lap had been harshly disabused from you. If anything, it seemed like the majority of the world was trying to edge you out of existence entirely, and you've had to learn quickly and act even quicker to seize at the scraps of space you could still call your own before even those were taken from you.
However, conspiracy or not, you were not one to let things go. You had bared your teeth and arrogantly declared war on the forces trying to smudge you out. You had travelled the forests around your home by foot, negotiated with brigands, recruited a small force of knights from the remnants of dispossessed peasantry, learned fragments of the wretched state of this country you had blissfully believed to at peace, encountered and struggled against all manner of Apparitions, even going so far as to have survived stumbling into an Aeon's Atelier.
Your journey these past few months had seen you gain many things, and lose just as much. Every decision you made, and every word you spoke, were another weight on your shoulders. The weight that reminded you of the face of your Knight Captain as the mineshaft caved in around you. Of the way you had consigned an entire camp of people to the unseen claws of an invisible night terror. Of the placid face of the taciturn girl who had stayed by your side after the death of your family, as she was carried away on your directions months ago.
"I must admit, I hadn't expected to encounter you here." Jenseits drawled casually, idly looking you over before sparing a similar glance of consideration to the brown haired serving girl at your side. "Are brunettes perhaps your preference? If I recall, Ari as well was..." Your frown deepens as you hear Jill softly echo that name as well, and you realize irritably that the longer you let Maran speak of her own accord, the more information Jill was going to be exposed to.
Couldn't Maran exist even once without being a pain in your ass?
"Hey, hey." Jill tugs at your sleeve, "Do you two know each other? Who is this girl?"
"Maran Jenseits." The pain in your ass introduces herself before you can answer, "Childhood friend of Irue's cousin. We are acquaintances of fortune." She bowed formally, showing off clothes that were painfully out of place in this village of common workers.

I've started thinking about a new quest idea.Revolving mostly around a slippery slope. It would be far less political and broadly spanning as Valen, likely focusing a bit on... Well, horror isn't a good quest genre, but perhaps something a little macabre, or unsettling. A question of when you will stop making little concessions and compromises, and after realizing where it led you, would you try to justify yourself, or run? As is my preference, it would likely take inspiration from lovecraft, or a certain game of blood.
Just some idle thoughts. I don't know when, if ever, I would feel comfortable starting it. Valen is my primary focus, even if it's not very widely received.
Which system has the best idea for stats?
The one that feels complete but also simplistic and maybe even realistic?

So I was reading this other thread >>44482959 and I noticed a lot of people expressing a lot of hate for pointbuy. Which kind of confused me. Rolling is fun but I see most groups using pointbuy for the sake of honesty and balance.
What do you guys think? Is point buy that distasteful to you?
Why or why not?
>>44487894
Almost all characters end up in the few most powerful stat builds that have been theorycrafted by mouthbreathing neckbeards.
Both point buy and rolling have their pros and cons and it honestly depends on what kind of player you are.
Pointbuy
>Pros
•Completely balanced, nobody will ever be exceptionally powerful over the other characters stat-wise
•Allows an easier time to balance a character in a system as you always know what the most powerful characters will look like vs your monsters
>Cons
•Point buy encourages sameness in characters. People will talk about how they can totally venture out of their comfort zone to make interesting characters, but almost none of them ever do, and many who encourage a point buy system will be quicker to admonish you for taking sub-optimal characters. "What? You want a tiefling monk in 5e? Enjoy ruining literally all of the fun in the world ever because of your retarded choices".
Rolling
>Pros
•Encourages truly randomized characters. People will be forced out of their comfort zone at some point. "I have a wizard with a high wisdom and strength? Maybe he multiclasses into fighter or ranger at some point..." or "My Cleric has a crazy low dexterity? Maybe he's crippled..."
•Rolling methods are more fun and open up more discussion amongst the players during character creation.
>Cons
•Can be very swingy. If the DM enforces keeping your rolls, you might well wind up with 1 guy in the part who is insanely overpowering on every skill check standing next to a guy with 3s across the board.
Generally, roleplayers and gamers tend to prefer rolling, whereas powergamers tend to prefer point buy. So outside of generals and theorycrafting sessions, people tend to hate point buy.
>>44488625
In systems where the only way to make a character is by using points, usually they can avoid the cons.
Though it requires the DM to sort of corral the players more than usual during the character design process, so some people dislike it.

Welcome to A Knight of the Stormlands: House Barbery Quest One-Shot. In which you take the reins of a young House with little and less in the way of storied or glorious past during the early days of Robert’s Rebellion in 282AC. Sworn to House Dondarrion of Blackhaven you are located upon the Sea of Dorne with much of your land being the famous Dornish Marches, a swampy mess of ponds and wetlands. You will take the perspective of the Knights of Cranhall and her inhabitants in your desperate bid to ward off a Dornish invasion, and defeat an enemy made long ago in the early days of your House.
House Barbery is a pre-genned House, designed around the idea of giving a first person perspective of Robert’s Rebellion in what could very well be one the bloodiest battlegrounds of Westerosi History, the Dornish Marches. As a House sworn to House Dondarrion, and by extension House Baratheon you have raised your banners in the name of your liegelord and marched to war.
If you’ve played the one of the many Quests within the ASoIaF setting the rules of the SIFRP system should be known. I will be using the Game of Thrones edition, as well as a few of the expansions namely OOSP and a few house rules which will be explained as we come to them. If you have questions about how things work or why certain actions are taken I can explain them as we go along. In truth this is a learning experience for me as well.

Ser Malcolm Barbery: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1R2OoeVlq2iTDZaFg4OubK_O3us7noBsixTVlmZDLl-E/edit?usp=sharing
The wind had been fierce upon the Sea of Dorne this evening, in the twilight to the west the sun cast the final glimmers of the day, and your eyes turnt away to the east instead, watching the sky turn a shade of reddish-orange that would please your crew, “Red at night, sailor’s delight…” you whisper to yourself, the rasp of old age clear upon it. Pulling your hand free of the port side bannister you move towards the stern of the ship, a clear limp is evident as you manage your way up the small staircase where your Captain of the Umbrage, Wallace, stood behind the helmsmen, pouring over a sea chart, a bottle of whiskey freshly cracked holding it down in the corner.
“Ser Malcolm,” he says stiffly snapping off a quick salute,
“Captain, status,” you respond, gruffly, the order of military was your true calling in life. If it had not been for the relative peace between the Fourth Blackfyre Rebellion and the War of the Ninepenny Kings, perhaps you would have become a renowned military leader, your liegelord Lord Bryce Dondarrion seemed to think as much at least, but now in your old age, it was but a forgotten dream, you were the Knight of Cranhall, called to war for a final time in Robert’s Rebellion.
“Little to report Ser,” he says straightening himself, “We’ve some word from the mainland, Ser Stannis Baratheon is holed up in Storm’s End, apparently a large force of the Reach marched across and is in the process of besieging them now. Though that says little for the Dornish to the south, we’ve heard nothin' from them.”
A note you disliked immensely; Houses Wyl, Yronwood, and Jordayne all had significant presence in these waters, while most of the Stormlands fleets had been pulled farther north to attack Dragonstone or wage war in the Narrow Sea. It was up to you and few other Houses to patrol these sea routes and send early warning should the Dornish begin an all out assault in the area. Compared to the Noble Houses of Dorne your fleet paled, made up of five ships, each older than the next, built by your father sixty odd years ago. To the northwest of you, Benson and Vulture’s Demise II and to the south, Red Bolt alongside your grandson’s Harvester, the youngest and best of the ships in your small fleet.
In truth you couldn’t be prouder of Ambrose, he had grown into every bit the man you could have hoped for, though it shamed you to know you needed two chances before to finally get it right. And you know it pained him immensely to be on mere watch duty, he wished to be with his father Ser Barton, the son you hardly knew anymore, and who had professed his utter disdain and unwanting of his own son. You sigh deeply, and take solace in the fact Ambrose had at least grown into being a worthy successor, if this was your last hurrah until death, then your House at least would be secure.
“SHIPS TO THE WEST!” a cry far above you cuts into your idle thoughts, you turn on your heel, quickly, poorly on the bad foot and squint into the distance. The sun is near blinding, but you see the outline of a ship, singular- no wait three. Five. Eight. Ten, ten bloody ships. Seven Hells, You go over the stretch of horizon again, counting each again and again.
“What flag be they flying!?” Wallace screams upwards.
“Looks like a foot?” the crow’s nest calls back down and your blood runs cold, House Wyl. Outnumbering you two to one. Upon their own Sea, with the wind in their favor, and the element of surprise in the evening sun to the west. You hear cries from the other ships go up, see men scrambling to their places, upon Umbrage all eyes are turnt to you, quiet having settled over the ship. You notice your hand gripped firmly on the banister overlooking your entire crew, knuckles turnt white, the old bones cracking with remembrance of war. The wind picks up again and the fleet begins to loom in the distance, the salt upon the air burns as you take in a deep breath, ready to give your orders.
>Engage with the Dornish Fleet
>Flee, you are at too poor of oddsThe hope is to bang these out at a rapid pace today, really get a good all out war feeling. Hope you guys enjoy.
The first thing you see is your face, its features obscured by its transparent nature, on a flat chrome expanse. You know what this is, you think. A reflection. It looks… off to you, though. Teeth bared, eyes glaring. You could swear you look angry, but you don’t feel angry. You don’t feel much of anything at all actually.
Your body is weighed down and you think that you would have trouble raising your arms and legs even if you wanted to. Which you do not. As you note your inability to move you notice you are lying on some kind of padded table. Movement begins with a soft whirring of motors and you find your view shifting from the roof of the room to the face of a smooth-skinned adult once you are positioned upright. Behind the adult is a very monochrome room of dull silver, though he blocks you from seeing most of it.
The glass separating the two of you begins to move and as you taste free air for the first time in your short life you realize it is the exact same as your tube air. Your disappointment is thankfully dulled as you had no expectations in the first place. The adult, in a long white coat, is holding a clipboard and if you had to guess the expression on his face it would be… excitement? He clears his throat before beginning.
“Hello Experiment KP-B-280. Please answer the following questions, if you are able.” He steps aside and shows a mirror behind him, giving you your first perfect look at yourself. As you thought, you have no emotion on your face, and considering how much shorter you are than the adult you must be a child.
“Answer in order please. What is in the mirror? What hair color and skin color does the object in the mirror possess? What is the most interesting thing you can think of at this moment?”
The first question is strange as it is obviously yourself in the mirror. You assume the others are a test of some sort? How do you answer?

Do you guys have any experience/ever played an aquatic campaign
How come nobody ever wants to do one of those with the mermaids and seamans and shit, is it because everything is underwater or is it just mechanically inferior to running games that take place on land/air/space?
It needs more Stormwrack and Shark people
One time my Dragonlance DM had an underwater game with sea elves and stuff. I had fun.
OP is right - it seems like aquatic adventures are criminally underused in RPGs outside of niche stuff like this.

Good but brutally hard GM, would probably have some secret motive where every run in game is just him seeing the most likely method of attack a group of real runners would take on actual facilities. He'd be as unreasonably cruel a GM as possible, and worst, if the "runners" (who are probably just SK interns) still succeeded by even a hair, he'd eat the real life security guy responsible for the defenses. I mean if a bunch of unpaid nerds figured out how to beat their plans in a game how are they supposed to hold up to professionals?

Umm, that's not how generals work.
“So, Senka, were those charts you traded for worth anything?”
You set down your fork and look over to Captain Hillbrant. In celebration of a “successful deal” with the Stryxis, he’s hosting an extravagant dinner for his officers. He’s broken out the good liquor (or so you’ve been told) and had the cooks prepare several delicacies. The former you’ve not touched yet, while the latter you’ve enjoyed thoroughly. Especially the Lobster Thermidor.
“Somewhat,” you reply back. “There’s two yet-to-be-claimed systems that might be worth visiting, and several webway gates on the way back to Footfall.”
“I’m all for planting the flag,” Hillbrant responds. “Especially if it turns out said systems actually have something of value in them. Any clues perchance?”
You nod. “One’s playing host to a massive nebula. And it’s got three planets orbiting a yellow star much like Sol.”
“And the other system?”
“A red giant playing host to two planets in perpendicular orbits to one another. Again, assuming the charts are correct.”
“It’ll be finnneee,” interjects Ruhr. He’s just on the other side of tipsy, based on how red his face is. “They’re not charts from the Eldar, so we won’t be flying right into a trap.”
“Yes, well, it never hurts to be cautious,” Hillbrant remarks. “Especially since either locale will involve another jump into the unknown.”
“Sooo? We’ve got Senka here.” Ruhr leans over and puts his arm on your shoulder. “She’ll do us right.”
You gently remove his hand from you, then reply, “Of course I will.”
Either some of your nervousness bled through inadvertently, or Ruhr is just the kind of drinker that likes getting everyone involved. “It’ll be finnnneeee. You should try some of this. It’ll calm your nerves…”

All rolls will go against a specified characteristic in the style of Rogue Trader. You’ll want to roll under the characteristic value in order to pass the check. The more degrees of success (every multiple of 10 counts as 1), the more awesome of a result. A 1 is a guaranteed success, and a 100 is a guaranteed failure. Best of three rolls when it’s called for, with a 1 or a 100 instantly taking precedence. If you see multiple characteristics being called for, each 1d100 counts for its respective test.
If you have any questions/etc, just shout.

Ruhr shakes a bottle of wine back and forth. You’re the only officer present that hasn’t consumed any liquor. Even Marneus, the fat ball, has had some. More than some actually. Close to two full bottles on his own. Everyone else is in various states of disrepair. Hillbrant, Lion, and you are likely the only ones present capable of making responsible command decisions. Though you suppose technically the Tech Priests who aren’t here also fall into that category.
Another prompt from Ruhr snaps you back into the moment. You could just as easily say no as have a small glass to placate him. It might actually be better to have a little wine. From all your readings on Rogue Trading you know that sharing and consuming of liquor has always been a social tradition even on the most stringent of vessels. The only problem is that you’ve literally not had a single drop of liquor in your whole life. A small amount won’t probably won’t hurt, right?

How should I outfit my Interceptor squads? There will be at least 2 incinerators (2 squads or a full 10 man squad combat-squadded), but should I give them anything for melee? Is giving them falchions too expensive?
>>44489781
For Grey knights, i'd keep the weapons cheap. halberds are almost never worth it, as you have manner hand anyways. I'd just keep the interceptors with 2 incinerators and a teleport homer. Combat squad them so that 2 incinerators are in 1 squad and the teleport homer is in the other. You can put a hammer if you want, but i usually only put hammers on terminators, and even then only 1 per every 5.

Information: Tracked down by Frieza's top soldiers, the fearsome Ginyu Force, Daikon was forced to make a desperate move to gain the strength to survive. It paid off, and Daikon was able to defeat the force, but Captain Ginyu proved more difficult, seizing Daikon's body. Daikon managed to reclaim his body, but was badly wounded. However, at the moment of truth, he was able to realize the legendary power of the Super Saiyan. Now, after months of training, Daikon and the others make their way to Planet Frieza to challenge the tyrant for control of the universe.
Welcome to Saiyan Quest. This takes place in the years Frieza controlled Planet Vegeta, as the Saiyans grow in strength and try to find a way to free themselves.
Voting will operate on a first to five system, at least for the time being.
Dialogue is allowed to be added to votes, as are actions (though I'll ignore what I consider shitposting)
During battles, options will usually have a number assigned to them. After that vote has won, players will roll a d100, and have three chances to match or beat that number.
If a 100 is rolled, it is considered a crit success (unless 100 was the number you had to match).
If a 1 is rolled, it is a crit failure, regardless of whether or not the other two rolls are high enough to succeed.
If, during a battle, players want to attempt a writein action, that is allowed, but I am the one who will assign the number to it, so use caution
You're a young male Saiyan who fought in the war with the Tuffles. You've become one of the most powerful Saiyans in the universe, but there's still potential for you to grow stronger.

First for hail King Daikon.
For months, you and your comrades have trained for this moment. You've subjected yourselves to grueling training, horrific pain and suffering, all in the effort of getting strong enough to battle with Frieza.
Rugula, determined to catch up to you, spent most of the time training by herself, only returning on occasion to challenge you or Sabi. She was usually able to fight evenly with Sabi, but every time she fought you she was horribly wounded.
Soko went off on his own, disappearing altogether for the duration of his training. You don't know what he did, but he's grown far stronger.
Now, your ship speeds toward Planet Frieza, with you and your fellow warriors prepared to fight the tyrant to the death.
"We'll be arriving within the hour," Kamatsuna informs you. "Should I contact King Vegeta and alert him that the time has come?"
>A. Yes, it's time for the Saiyans to rebel
>B. No, send the transmission once you've reached Planet Frieza and confirmed Frieza is there
