Anyone care to share some good fantasy books? Outside of the Tokien stuff and certain anime Im a bit of a neophyte to the genre.
Im really just looking to get something to draw inspiration from because sooner rather than later Im gonna have a turn at coming up with a campaign.

The Gotrek and Felix series is pretty rad, imo. Might learn a thing or two from it as well.

Will check out.

I am somewhat of a crusty Anon, and others are free to call my taste stanky if they wish, but I'd suggest the following:
The Last Unicorn
Karl Edgar Wagner's Kane (specifically the short story compilation "Night Winds")
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser
The Thieftaker chronicles
The Prydain books
A Wizard of Oz (fight me, anons)
Sweet Silver Blues
Joe Abercrombie's First Law
Quintessence, David Walton
The First and Second Chronicles of Thomas Covenant
Fred Saberhagen's "Book of Swords" trilogy
Robert Silverberg's Night Wings
Viriconium
Clark Ashton Smith's Xothique stories.
Jack Vance's Dying earth.
Hawkmoon and Chronicles of Corum. Elric if you wanna be more grimderp.
Some old, some new, all good reads with various contributions any GM could profit from

Correct this is wrong.

What the fuck is this even supposed to be? Marquis?

How else do you pronounce it?

See above. "Tie-fling"?

I mean, it's a very slight difference from the correct pronunciation.

I agree.
My biggest one is people saying "Side-Real" when they say sidereal.

You are Brianna la Croix, journeyman necromancer, and your lover's father - just rescued from prison - has chosen to spend his first day of freedom blaming himself for his daughter's problems.
Sad thing is, you know the feeling. Misery just loves company, doesn't it?

"Look," you tell Larry. "It doesn't matter. It's been three years now, and you can drive yourself to insanity and drink with 'what if' on your own time. Does Amy seem unhappy to you?"
"...No," Larry admits, nodding thoughtfully. "Maybe a bit burdened, but I get the feeling that you have something to do with that."
"She's helping me with something important," you agree. "...There's something wrong with the Dungeon. Not just here, everywhere. And I'm fixing it."
"Once upon a time, I wouldn't think Amy would commit to something like that," her father tells you; he takes a sip of his coffee and sets the cup down. "She was always...flighty. Excited. Not faithless, exactly, just easily distracted. But I see a fire in her eyes now that wasn't there before. Like she has something to believe in."
You cough and turn away. "Wow. That's. Not awkward at all."
Larry laughs. "Amy was always trying to think of the future. She never quite knew what she wanted, but she never stopped looking. Now I think she's found it. Brianna -"
"Bri," you correct. "Please, call me Bri."
"Bri. How can I help best, here in the Mine?"

Repeating my previous call for Audionon as well; the bossmen are still potentially interested in this quest and I'd like to be able to show them your work.
Due to budgeting reasons GW has decided to start cutting races from 40k with only 8 races remaining in the game. For whatever fucked up reason you are the one in charge of this decision.
Which 8 races do you pick to stay?

Probably the DE and the Tau, never liked the sadist fuckwits or the boring gunline army. Also out of all of the choices presented they probably have the 2nd and 3rd least impact on the fluff behind the Bolter Bitches if they were to be removed.

Sisters are pretty damn firmly established in the Imperial lore, though. It'd be like suddenly removing the Air Force from the US military - jokes aside, it'd be incredibly noticeable and cause all sorts of internal problems.

What are some unique magic items you've seen in your games?
>>44690250
>>44690250
My old DM was really fond of particularly dickish magic items he made up on the spot. I know using magic items without getting them identified is risky business, but it was even worse with his. By far the most offensive he ever made was an amulet which contained the soul of a recurring villain. If a character put it on, he would be immediately transformed into that villain and put under control of the GM. No warning. No save rolls. You put this thing on, your character was gone forever.
Fucking thing didn't even register on Detect Evil.
Kinda pic related. Had a magic item inbedded in the characters chest. Had to push on their chest to activate it. Have the character a breath attack. It was a cool idea, and actual came in handy in an interrogation session with the character.

You are Sonia Reynard, Baron of Rioja. One small world among many in the House of Jerik-Dremine. From it you control the fates of a dozen others in the so called Smuggler's Run. With your new position you have the opportunity to become one of the most influential people in your House.
It is from this world that you will draw your future fleets and armies from. It is becoming increasingly clear to everyone that those armies are needed now.
While you are still a General in the Factions Alliance Fleet, you remain on reserve status due to the civil war. It's doubtful you'll be able to assist them with the war against the Neeran for some time.
As the Dominion begins to slip deeper into civil war you and those under your command have been fighting to protect your little corner of known space. Now with the arrival of additional allies you've gone on the offensive in an effort to drive House Nasidum out of the DRH1 Relay.
Knight Captain Katherine Drake is your fleet's Wing Commander. She's been working hard these past months to make sure your attack wings are fully trained and manned. With as much experience in the field as you there are few better to rely on.
Uyi Rna is the General of your Army. Troops and armored vehicles are readied aboard their Assault Transports ready to assault any planet you choose. 100,000 troops can be landed in a single drop. More are ready to be brought in from Rioja within hours.
Wiremu Tama is the admiral of your Fleet. With the possibility of having to face House Nasidum soon he's been making sure the starfighter forces are prepared to assist or repel planetary assaults. They'll be needed soon.

>>44687871Well we will have a bunch salvage of lesser good ships we can give them. Old style Corvettes are still worth at lest like 2 millions or so. Maybe not as much damaged. And if it comes down to it then we got other salvage we can give them. Perhaps even some Assault Corvettes since we produce those.

oh boy here we go
Yesterday, a guy mentioned an idea on another thread the despite context is actually quite clever.
An inn ran by a family of werebears. While the inspiration is a little silly (the Goldilocks story), myth and symbolism do associate bears with protection, hospitality and nurturing. "Mother Bear shares her catches", and all that. The idea of taking "shelter" under the protection of the bear and being fed and warmed by it, a homey spot in the wilderness, taps into an archetypical attraction.
In practical terms, you go and try to cause a fuss in a venue ran by Beorn and his sons.
What unusual, cool ideas for inns, pubs, taverns and other drinking/eating/gambling/housing establishments have you seen in your games?
I'd burn that inn to the ground, and have a posse outside to make sure none escape.
No good can come from such beasts.
>>44685814
I don't have the SRD open, but aren't werebears like lawful good or something?
>>44685839
Yep, by default werebears are lawful good.
The game officially releases on the 19th!
ANON CREATED A CHARACTER FOR THE GAME! POLL RESULTS FINALIZED!
The poll results have been counted and the votes are tallied up. 3 boards (/tg/, /v/ and /vg/) were tasked with voting to create a named hero character for the game, which will be included on release day. The character will be summonable via a secret menu in the stage coach by pressing enter. After a week of voting, the following is what you and your fellow autists created:
Name: Briar Patch
Class: Plague Doctor
Clothing: Red cloak w/gold trim
Battle Skills: Plague Grenade, Noxious Blast, Disorienting Blast, Incision
Camping Skills: Encourage, Self-Medicate, Experimental Vapors
Quirks: Manslayer, Nymphomania, Deviant Tastes
No, but seriously, great job on making her quirks useless. I would expect no less from you guys. Oh, but there was still her personal trinket to design...
Name: Lewd Vial
Item Type: Vial
While Camping: +SPD, +ACC, +Stress Resistance, -PROT, -Disease Resistance, -Trap Resistance
You all deserve a round of applause for that one. It was a fun week, everyone. Make sure to check out your handiwork in the game on the 19th!

Let's have ourselves a worldbuilding thread, /tg/.
While everyone should feel free to share settings and ideas from your current project(s), experience has shown these threads tend to live a little longer when people ask for specific types of help. With this in mind, please start or end setting info posts with specific areas you'd like help in.
Have fun and be excellent to each other.

About a week ago I shared some bits about my magic system. Essentially it boiled down to magic being powered by souls; meaning human and animal sacrifices were needed for the most powerful stuff.
At the time, I was planning on using this in a Viking-esque world, but I recently changed it to take place in a Phoenician-centric world. There's an emphasis on exploration and I intend to have the PCs be on a ship, but instead of being vikings they'll focus on Odyssey-style adventures during trade/exploration missions.
So far my NOT-Assyrians and NOT-Greeks are just carbon copies, so I'd love some help fleshing them out and adding more.
The three main cultures I've got are based on the Phoenicians, Greeks, and Assyrians respectively.
The NOT-Phoenicians are part of a trade empire. Originally a single powerful city-state, they now have a string of well defended trade cities throughout the world. They act as a bank/postal service/transport for most of the known world.
They have the best ships and will trade anything with anyone, so long as they can conduct their business relatively unmolested.
Anyway, this is a backdrop for the mcguffin hunt. Scattered across the world are an unknown number of magical springs, located where the living world and afterlife meet. This is where new souls enter the world and the dead pass on.
If a living creature enters a pool, they absorb a huge amount of power and become demi-gods, but the pool loses its power.
The gods in my setting are people who have entered one of these springs and subsequently increased their power even further by mass magical rituals.
Few people know this to be true, but the PCs are going to be people hired by someone who does. Their job, though they won't know it at first, is to find these springs.
Thoughts? Ideas to make it work?

So here's how I'm pretty sure the AD&D territory minigame works -- the first uses a 200 yard hex scale, the second uses a 1 mile hex scale, the third a 30 mile campaign hex scale.
The way it work as I understand it is, is basically, you gotta clear out the top map to begin work on a stronghold. On the second one, the green shaded area is how much you have to clear to make the area be considered "civilized" and no longer get hordes of hostile encounters.
