I was just wondering what tg's opinion was on them, and by "level up" I don't just mean traditional levels. I also include games like Shadowrun or BESM where you gain points for abilities.

So your character wouldn't improve at all?
I guess, but only if it was relatively short-lived.
Like a zombie survival game, or something.

I don't exactly like stories where the characters don't learn from their experiences, and improve/adapt.
>>
>>44701812
what if you just gain the abilities themselves, no points?

Like, real life people improve. And good stories are based on growth. So you need some way to represent that. It doesn't have to be numbers, and I suppose technically it doesn't have to be mechanical at all, but most growth other than mental/spiritual does usually result in either additional abilities or more strength in those you have, which are things that should be a thing mechanically represented.

Become The Vampire 28

Your schoolday was, in a word, uneventful.

Which is to say that half of your classes were basically just sitting around doing nothing. You had a substitute teacher for math class since the previous teacher “is taking an extended leave of absence”, but that was the most exciting thing to happen all day. Your history class got a dose of excitement with talk of the tournament, but your teacher was quick to inform everyone that there would be parental consent forms and waivers galore. Still, it means everything can be full contact. Catherine seemed to get a little kick out of that idea, since your church is all about healing the wounded.

With Sammy recovering from her hangover and Andrea out of the picture as well you're pretty sure that track will be canceled. Well, fairly sure at least. You're not certain about it, but you've also got an appointment to keep with Angie, and your main reasons for going to track are nursing wicked headaches. Presence has been pretty calm all day long. You're pretty sure this is a bad sign, but you've got no proof of that just yet.

As you leave shop class and try to figure out what you want to do next, a small envelope flutters down from the ceiling and lands at your feet. Written on it are the words “To Oliver Spencer, Esq.”, but there's no sign of whoever left it there for you, and no marks on the ceiling to indicate it had been stuck there. The halls seem to empty themselves suddenly, as though on some unheard cue everyone around you parted ways and walked away from you. The air is still and quiet, and the envelope beckons.

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Most Important Rule:
Have fun.

>Nope. Run off to see Angie.
>Pick up the envelope and see what's up.
>Pick up the envelope and read it later

What are some systems in which your avarage guy CAN'T actually dodge a bullet?

A system in which the attacker tests his own ability to aim and shoot instead of putting it against some abstract "dodge" value?

It really irks me in some games when someone simply dodges a really good ranged roll. It pulls me right out of the game, and even the DM has a hard time trying to narrate what exactly happened without sounding silly ("He ducks just in time" is an absolutely ridiculous scene in a serious game).

I think Cyberpunk 2020 is the only system I've played in which the defender didn't get some sort of reaction or AC.
>>
>>44700976
Shadowrun has armour and such take place after the attack has hit. Although in the game it is possible to make cybernetic characters and adepts who can literally dodge bullets, but that makes more sense based on their ability.
>>
>>44700976
People aren't actually dodging the bullet you stupid fuck.

Defense or Dodge or whatever is just the person's ability to juke and jive. They're not avoiding the actual bullet Matrix style, they're just doing what they can to avoid being where the gun's pointing when you pull the trigger.

they do not function as defensive grenades?

I can only assault as Dark Eldar at initiative, not defend?

well get an ethereal, senpai

give him some breachers as a bodyguard too

I'm beginning work on putting together an adventure that's akin to Bujold's idea of the Astronomical Survey service.

Basically, high tech setting with superluminal travel only possible by jumping through wormholes. When you find a wormhole entrance, you have no clue where you'll end up, and not every wormhole allows for bidirectional travel.
>note, I'll probably have some sort of percentage certainty system for guessing where a wormhole goes, or at least the general direction it travels to not have this part be entirely random/up to me

Because of this, you need a team that can handle all kinds of possible challenges, from long periods of isolation and possibly being stranded to initiating first contact.

I'm wanting this to be more of an intimate kind of game where many of the challenges are environmental/keeping the crew (the PCs) from killing each other kind of thing. My group enjoys actually roleplaying characters, so they'll get into that aspect rather well so long as I can give them a compelling enough stage to play on.

Anyway, I'm coming to /tg/ for random ideas to add in and suggestions of what system to use. I'm thinking either GURPs or making a few modifications to Traveller.

Also, pic related is what the ship will be based on because I fucking love the Defiant, and generally think it's likely what a ship would end up being like in such a universe.

Defiant is indeed awesome, but you may not want to follow the existing deckplans too closely given its size problems.
>>
>>44700818
Definitely...although, I do want it to be a more cramped ship than spacious...something to add to the tensions.
>>
>>44700703
The defiant had minimal cargo space as well from memory, will you be changing that or keeping the replicator and teleporter?

We're gonna play magic /tg/

You all against me, I probably won't win but this should be fun

Since this thread will likely start out slow first 3 votes decides the format of play, commander, modern, legacy, etc

Then you all will vote for what kind of deck you will use and we'll go from there, this will hopefully prevent 50 people all trying to play me at once with different style decks

So we'll start voting
1. Chaos
2. Commander
3. Edh
4. Legacy
5. Modern
6. Casual

Anyone have it? Is it any good? The theme appeals to me, but it seems like it could just be expensive Rock Paper Scissors.

The core IS rock-paper-scissors, but additional mechanics and introduction of the concept of different payoffs make the game deeper than that. It's really good if both players know what they're doing.

If you still want to play 2D fightan gaems, you could always get BattleCON.

Hello /tg/ and good evening. Tonight I come to you all seeking answers to a bothersome question. Where can one go to recruit local players for some good ol' tabletop fun if the only LFGS in town is a leviathan sized jerk and won't allow me to post advertisements there or inquire with people on site.

And to specify, I have no tg relative pictures on my phone so here's some crappy 3rd grade code for you all.

There are plenty of sites like Meetup you can advertise on. Also generally any decent events venue or other such common area/gathering place - local library etc- would be a good place to put signs. Pitching it as a "board game club" might help win the normies over more.

You can also check out local colleges and universities, which almost certainly having gaming societies.

I was given this image and I thought it would be cool to start a thread over riddles and such. I have been looking for the solution to this, as the image is supposedly a password to unlock a video sent to me. If anyone could solve it I will keep you posted on the video and will post it. I know the answer to the riddle is a clock or watch, and the numbers/box is Fibonacci related.
