Hey fa/tg/uys and ca/tg/irls, I have a challenge for you.
This is a card currently available in Standard MTG, and I wanna see you guys break it.
So far I can see synergies with Dash and the new Chandra, but I want to know what you guys think.
When combined with Eldrazi Displacer and Brood Monitor combo it draw's forever, which can get you to your Zulaport Cutthroat or Altar of the Brood or whatever other win condition you want.

Firearm ranges in RPGs.
Now, generally speaking, it seems to me that listing squares or even meters for firearm ranges in an RPG is kind of a useless exercise.
In reality pistols and shotguns generally have the same effective range (roughly 30 meters, depending on what you're firing), non-precision rifles (assault rifles, battle rifles, etc) have generally the same range, again (300-600 meters), and so on and so forth. On to the RPG part.

I agree, but many players like useless calculations like that as it gives them a feeling of verisimilitude, even if it is false precision.
a sniper rifle would be useless
But a character walking around one manning a Gatling gun sounds pretty role play-y to me
What, you've never said "Ok, each square is twenty meters"?
I've been in lots of tabletop fights where it mattered that the sniper rifle had a better range than the assault rifle. Dark Heresy, Deadlands, lots of outside fights that start at long range. It's an interesting and common tactical scenario.
Does this really never happen to you guys? Why not? If you have a rifle, why aren't you opening up from long range?

I've been thinking about writing an RPG book for the fantasy world I'm storytelling in, but I'm shite at drawing creatures. I've paid about 10$ each for simple character art portraits before, but what would a somewhat detailed black and white sketch of an animal cost me you think?

Really depends on the artist but if that's what they've asked before that's what I'd count on.
The bigger problem is probably quantity. Ain't much of a bestiary with only one beast in it.

I'm confident however that it will cost much more than you expect if you want any kind of quality.
I'd recommend you don't start looking into the illustrations until you've done a fair bit of the ground work on your bestiary first.

I would more or less finish your beasts and then commission in bulk instead of paying per portrait. Unless you want to go for multiple artists which might be cool variety.

I live in Southeast Asia and want to start a weekly tabletop group. My players consist of

I painstakingly created an extremely visual, very beginner-friendly combat/leveling system and plan to use free-form role play with a bit of dice rolling for the storytelling segments.
How fucked am I? Would really like input from more experienced GMs on how to make this game work. The theme is Pirates of the Caribbean-esque swashbuckling with supernatural elements throughout.

How is this a downside? Just make up whatever system or use something simple like Savage Worlds and have fun. Don't weigh players down with mechanics unless they are of the very specific type of person who like that kind of thing.
DnD is a pretty shitty game for beginners.
Try to begin as rules-lite as possible, and slowly ease them into the system.
Encourage and reward both creative thinking, and problem solving as much as possible.
As a DM, try to incorporate their ideas as much as possible, and try not to resort to, "You can't do that."
“Leave it to midgaardians to find endless alternatives to fish on top of bread approaches, there's more creative uses to cereals than there are to thigh bones”, leave it to Tahenohan to make analogies that certainly everyone will perfectly understand with zero guesswork and no room for misunderstandings.

What fighter build should I create for a Lvl 10 dude in 3.5 DND so I can "End My Foes Rightly"?
