We've been doing a practice session for our upcoming campaign, which will be the first time most of us have played shadowrun. This happened in the second practice session.

My HTR teams vary based on the corp, but I'm actually pretty hype about the Augmented Special Tactics Division of Knight Errant that I'm working on. Small division of biocompatible Knight Errant officers, loaded up with muscle replacements, reaction enhancers, and dermal armor, then trained by the high-tier prime runner team that KE keeps on payroll (eventual antagonists depending on how things go down) to operate specifically against runner teams. Matrix-heavy, magic-light, and ded killy against major targets.
The division's just starting to form as of my campaign opening, so they won't be a factor for quite a while. A few runs will either weaken or strengthen the base that I've got for them.
What questions would you have an incredibly advanced and powerful being ask the party to determine if they were sentient or not?

Let him play Ascension if he wants to play Ascension man. There isn't any point in giving someone a list of 2e spoilers if he isn't familiar with 1e and isn't interested in even playing Awakening. They are different games. Its not like Awakening is an "upgrade" of Ascension. 2e especially is going to be far removed from what drew him to Ascension.
As for the discussion last thread about Mage 1e core, I do think that it's hate is a bit misplaced. I really, really liked Awakening's backstory and setting right from the start. I thought the game worked well without any supplements and the first couple of books that were released for it were immediate improvements to the setting. It wasn't like I had to slog through a bunch of them for Mage to get good, it started good and Secrets of the Ruined Temple made it even better.
But I do fall into the trap of saying that the 1e core is bad, not because of the game being bad, but because of the layout. The first couple chapters are dense as fuck and it was hard getting my new players to read through it all when they all just wanted to jump in and play. Then there are a bunch of rules for things that rarely come up and not enough rules for stuff that do and sifting through the the lore and mechanics was just a pain. I don't know why it was such a hassle finding Imbued Weapon over and over again but it was.
And then the art. My god the art.

Reminder that in LOTR Orc is just another name for goblin (at least in the books) and the biggest one was almost human sized they also act more like stereotypical goblins in fantasy with their reliance on numbers, being easy to defeat once their leader is killed and being vicious, jealous cunts

tl;dr: Wizards have a different definition of what a counterfeit is compared to law and now strongarms stores into complying or they get their WPN rights revoked, meaning no more cheap product from Wizards.
It doesn't matter if said events are unsanctioned or even casual play. This hits Legacy and especially Vintage the most.
The resulting shitstorm that is currently raging on social media made Trick Jarrett issue an official statement - which was ill-received:

Two days later, the doctors give you a clean bill of health and you’re discharged from the Task Force hospital. During your stay, you were given a starter kit by one of the secretaries. The box itself contains your own ID card, a set of barracks clothing, a personal laptop, and a sleek new cell phone for Task Force business.
At least, that’s the cool things that you got. The rest of the items are textbooks and manuals, including a dictionary-thick set of rules that the Task Force swears by. You’ve still got some reading to do before boot camp starts. That’s one thing you can definitely be sure about.
It takes an aid to guide you through the veritable maze of corridors, secret passageways and hidden elevators in order to make it out of the headquarters and into the civilian offices, Burroughs Pharmaceutical. With a cheery wave, your guide bows and disappears through the wall as the bookshelf slides back to cover the entrance.
Your car is in the public garage where you last remember parking it. With a deep breath, you pop your keys in the ignition and drive out of the building. Who would’ve thought that a secret society made its headquarters right underneath a plain-looking office building?
The drive back up to Montgomery County is relatively uneventful. The D.C. landscape zips by in a blur as you gather your thoughts. You're now working for a secret organization to fight demons. It still hasn't fully sunken in yet. Wow. You aren't dreaming. This is actually happening.

It smells terrible in here, and the ground is the worst kind of mud, just solid enough that it feels all sandy when it gets into your shoes. I hate swamps, and we've only been in one for half a day. And to make matters worse.

A trip to the town of Khoman Doe was quickly cut short, after meeting the incredibly hostile locals.
With their potential ally imprisoned by the gun wielding townspeople, Dash and friends had to convince others to take the Dokugumons place, easily tricking the nearby Sukamon that it would boost their machismo.
Along the way, the group picked up clues on potential human survivors, in two seperate locations, before deciding to investigate further on the lead in a place called Coded Village.
Driving into the night, the group finally stopped when they hit the ocean, only to be ambushed when another Digimon forced them into sleep.
Dash also had some dreams about certain people in the meantime, but he doesn’t want to talk about those right now.
And now, the adventure continues!
You jolt awake again, still bound wrist and ankle with rough cords, pitch black all around you. The air feels stale, and hotter than before.
On the other hand you’re not pressed up against the others anymore, and rather than hard concrete, you’re laying on a cold metallic floor. You’ve been moved. You can’t even hear the others now, everything else drowned out by the sound of a loud engine.
Forcing yourself to sit up, you explore the short area in your reach with your hands, fumbling against another metallic wall behind you, feels thin, and it rattles a little when you touch it. At a guess, it’s only riveted together at the corners, and if you look closely, a little daylight pours in at them, along with a hot breeze of air.
