Another cold winter day, the sky is grey and I am quite bored. I mean I really shouldn't be, since Maria has been really treating this past week, but I'm just simply bored, as much as love and adore her, I really don't like being cooped up in one place for so long. Maybe I can take her out somewhere for the day and have some fun? then again last time we did that she broke her arm, not to mention how horrible hot that damn jungle was. I sigh, tapping my fingers on the edge of the bed as I roll over onto my stomach.

S You could just go a cull some of the herd of mindless sheep in this building S

I could, but I don't know if I want to, I mean its so easy to kill people in buildings, no place for them to run and few places for them to hide, now if I could get them into the forest...than maybe it'd be good sport, or at least a short distraction

[Truly we're in dark times when you aren't excited about killing something]

I know right? I think its the cold, I always hate winter, its just so annoying, drains the life and fun out of everything, I wish I could just speed time up and be over with it already

<So you're like winter then?>

Oh you're lucky your already dead and in my head

T and very lucky I cannot kill vhat is already dead T
S Well you can at least torment it for awhile, but really, you should feed, the taste of the frozen and dead is disgusting S

What do I do?
[] take a nap
[] Try to convince maria to take you somewhere
[] Try and be social for once
[] wander the school grounds, looking for fun
[] Take a normal job, kill some people
[] Take a double face coin mission, kill somethings that actually present a challenge
[] Terrorize some people

You are Sierra Beckhoff, and you are the Imperiate – the one true tyrant of the thousand hells. That is, if you can survive long enough to reclaim your inheritance.

In order to ensure you’re kickass enough to take your varied enemies head on, you’ve decided to rush forward with operation mad gains. Tonight, you and a motely crew of your selection will telezap into Canada. There you’ll go tripping over to the shores of Lake Superior to claim the anchor node of an elemental spirit, and master its power as your own.

If you mess up this spirit business, you’ll be too weak to confront your myriad enemies. King Yellow, Sulkrasph the shadow master, and the Stygian Grand Wyrmwrither Ushologuissa all have reasons to want you gone, and you’re running out of time.

One thing that helps not mess up serious business is serious firepower. After raiding your dad’s secret hideout, you have a whole bunch of magic weapons that just might come in handy. So it is you find yourself with Harvey Hallow (your adoptive brother), and your fellow conclave member, Orias Vincain – the most qualified people you can think of on short notice who can figure out what magics you’re dealing with.

--

Were your parents even ever married? Does that matter when you’re talking about marginally-mortal folks who lived life on the wild side?

Wait. Corithis was like, five hundred years old. What if she’d been married before? What if she had kids before? What if you have like, a half-family someplace? Like, you know you’re her heir, but really, who cared about what her business was before she was the Imperiate and hit it big?

Maybe Orias is not the man to ask such questions.

And yet he’s here. He’s the only target for your curiosity. You frown and brush your hair out of your face. “Hey, so. Was Corithis ever married to anybody?” you ask him. “You know, like my dad? Or maybe anyone else?”

He seems to pick up where you’re coming from, and shakes his head. “The Imperiate was never publicly married,” says Orias. “I’ve heard tell she chose a new consort to toy with every century or so.”

That’s... surprisingly tame. The prospect of being with somebody for more than a year is kind of a weird idea for you. A hundred years? Like. You like Wolf a lot. Like a whole lot. It’s not even funny. But do you like him a century’s worth? (+1 Stress: 26) You shake the thought from your head. One step at a time.

Corthis. You’re talking about your mom. That’s what’s important. “Any chance there’s any other heirs running around out there?” you ask. “Maybe there’s like, a cool hell sibling I haven’t met?”

“I doubt that’s the case,” says Orias. “If she had any children, they would have come forward, or been pushed forward to lay claim to the empire she conquered. It’s said she was barren. But...” he gives you a significant look, “obviously lowborn spin idle tales. Most believe them, all the same. I’d assumed they were truth till I learned of you.”

“It’s okay,” says Harvey, “cool hell siblings are overrated. They’d only want to duel you to the death.”

“Yeah, there is that,” you admit.

“Now cool California siblings, see, you don’t have to duel them to the death,” he continues.

You consider this with a nod. “Never thought about it like that.” Harvey and Ro are about as chill of people as you could hope to keep around. (-2 Stress: 24) The last thing you’d want is to add somebody else – somebody as potentially as irritating as Waldric. “So Harv, all this magic gun business. Like, what do you think? You’re ‘cool’ now, but you ever going to be rad enough to make your own?”
>>
>>44992743

Harvey gives you an expressionless look. “Uh huh.”

You give him a hard slap on the back. “You got real gumption, kid. I like it,” you say.

Harvey lets out a small groan of discomfort from the chummy strength of your back-slap.

You turn your attention back to Orias, who is examining the weapons in a new light. “So what’s my 100% brand Zhermaec assault rifle thing do though?” you ask, gesturing at it with a claw. “What do you think it does again?”

“I can’t say,” he says, stooping in toward the gun in question, where it lies on the table. He points at the script etched into the wood and metal of the weapon. “This though. I’ve only seen writing like this once before. This is shadow tongue – walker writing.”

Harvey is particularly interested in this fact. “It’s Verwelkan writing?”

Orias affirms this with a silent glance.

Your brother picks up the gun. “I call dibs on testing this one,” he says, shouldering the rifle and checking the sights. He reaches over for the scope, still in its paper wrapping, to attach it to the weapon.
>>
>>44992772

“Hold off there Rambo,” you say, reaching across the table and picking up the plain steel spear in the back. You show it off to Orias. “Did you check out this spear of destiny? Always takes me like ten minutes to find it.”

Orias inspects the length of the spear before accepting it from your hands. He turns away in a swift movement, spinning the weapon about and executing a series of short but potent thrusts forward. He tosses it in the air to test its weight, and snatches it back out of the air with ease. “It’s not a spear,” he says, gripping it tightly to test its rigidity. “It’s an Izhowak spine.” A lemony excitement sneaking out from under his purposeful reservation.

“Cool,” you say.

“They’re Verwelkian creatures,” he explains, sounding more lively than he did just a minute ago. “They roam along the borders of the abyssal plains, where there’s light enough still to see by. It’s been over two centuries since a hunter pursued an Izhowak and survived to best it.”

>I just now realized you’re a huge nerd.
>Is this thing typical of Izhowak spines then? Cause it’s kind of big.
>Okay, you sold me. Enough talk, let’s get shooting and sparring or whatever.
>How much do you think this would go for on ebay?
>You'd totally go for hunting an Izhowak, wouldn't you.
>What's so special about Izhowaks that badass demon hunters can't kill them?

What are some gimmick games you'd like to run in 5e? Or even ones you've already been part of? Same-party campaigns, same-race campaigns, all-martials, all-casters, etc.

Kind of a niche topic, OP, but in the spirit of participation:

We ran a party of door-to-door salesmen campaign once. Charisma shenanigans. Warlock bought back his soul toward the end.
>>
Can druids wear studded leather armour? Or does it count as metal armour?
>>
>>44991723

Players start off in command of a small retinue. The campaign follows their mercenary shenanigans as they build their rabble into a proper army.

Think Italian city-states and you've got the right idea.

So you have these Blood Raven guys who attacked the Imperial Guard on two separate occasions and also fought the Sisters of Battle. Never for a particularly great reason. Additionally, they hoard valuable artifacts which plainly belong to other chapters, are able to provide no account of their heritage, and a ton of them, including their Chapter Master, fell to Chaos. Why hasn't the Inquisition wiped them out yet?

Because the Inqusition thinks it's pretty amazing.

What's your favorite color deck to play with?

How long have you been playing MTG?

If you play with friends how "optimized" are your decks?

How many cards do you have in total?

White/(anything). I just really love using Pacifism on all of my friend's big creatures since none of them have a lot of cards to destroy enchantments.
>How long have you been playing MTG?
About three months? I'm fairly new to the hobby.
>If you play with friends how "optimized" are your decks?
Not really optimized at all. I just pick out all the nice cards from the two colors I make my deck out of and try to trim it down to around 60-70.
>How many cards do you have in total?
I don't know. Maybe 400-500? Just enough to barely fit in the Battle for zenkidar deck builder's toolkit I got for Christmas.

What's your favorite card to play against friends with? Mine's pic related. I nabbed 4 from Amazon for $2+shipping.

Any game ambience with complex and realistic social sciences themes? Even if it's fantasy or sci-fi, i'm talking about realism in social structures, with history, sociology, anthropology influence.

For example Glorantha it's a fantasy world, but it's clearly set in the bronze age, with tons of civilizations and cultures, lots of religions and diversity. Not like the Warcraft world which is more centered in characters, civilizations are anachronic and they don't care too much about culture.

Another example: Eclipse Phase, an sci-fi game realistic about what could happen with humanity in the future, with good descriptions of culture, new social structures, new traditions, politics, philosophy, etc.

>>
>>44990065
That's kinda sad. RPGs has so much potential for being deep and complex, not only in mechanics.
>>
>>44990325
Well the focus for them goes into making them FUN TO PLAY, so mechanical focus is a must in most cases, and only after can they expand into other regions you know? Before anything else, a game must be fun.

PASTEBIN ANON’S PASTEBIN: http://pastebin.com/GhipxW4w

PREVIOUSLY: http://suptg.thisisnotatrueending.com/archive.html?searchall=Star+Wars%3A+Fortune+Hunter

While still in orbit over Naboo, you and your crew awaited the arrival of Jennis D’Leer, scavver and merchant. You hadn’t made a commitment to search any of the potential locations of the Katana Fleet: Alpheridies, Tython, or the far edge of the galaxy. And for good reason, because although the trails in the nav logs end in those three spots, it doesn’t mean that the Katana Fleet will be at either location. If anything, it’s just another mystery as why this even is.

But you weren’t concerned with that mystery. You were concerned with the mystery of the Jedi, the Sith, and the Force for now. You were in your quarters, poring over notes and illegal holobooks that had escaped the revisionist eye of Emperor Palpatine.

Most of all, your concern was with the Inquisitors, and what exactly they were after. As a Flight School Cadet, you and your class had only heard rumors of agents serving Lord Vader and the Emperor across the Galaxy. Clad in black armor and wielding lightsabers, they hunted the Empire’s enemies from the shadows. They weren’t like Storm Commandos or the obsolete Imperial Commandos carried over from the Clone Wars, these guys meant business. And those two Inquisitors on your tail felt absolutely awful, even from a distance. Even thinking about them was making your skin crawl.

And yet, they were weirdly cute at the same time. If you got past the black armor, the standoff-ish attitude and the weird cultist vibe you got from them, they might be a pretty fun duo to lay bones with. Not the first twins you’ve had in bed after all. Of course, you’re not going to get past any of that. Not even your skillful charm can get them to drop the bantha apples.

Regardless, they were shadowy enough to escape mention in almost every official documentation of Imperial activities. Even illegal documents, even Rebel Alliance propaganda fails to understand what Inquisitors are exactly.

But, you did find out why exactly Alpheridies isn’t the best place to go for Misri, and a little something else about Admiral Daas Reike.

The door into your quarters opens up to reveal Misri. She smiles happily, leaning on the door. “Guess who just scored her first sim kill?” She points to herself, grinning happily as she pulls off her newly fitted helmet, walking towards you as well. “This gal!” She continues grinning, but her smile drops when she realizes you aren’t paying attention. “… hey, Rhys.” She waves her hand in front of your eyes as you read. “You in there?”

“Yes,” you say. You sigh, leaning back to look at her. “Sorry, Misri. I’m a little busy catching up on some things.”

“Ooooh.” She looks at the holobooks spread in front of you. “Reading stuff. Okay, I get you.” She sits down on your bed, her legs swinging back and forth. You sigh, looking at her.

“How difficult was it?” you ask.

“Super difficult,” she says. “Like, I don’t know how you do it!”

You scoot your chair back a bit. “Look. There’s a simple principle in dogfighting that many veterans like myself understand. It’s called Dive, attack, run away, repeat. If you can’t get him on the first pass, don’t chase him. Just run away. Come back later. Works if you’re using a pretty fast ship.”

“I see.” She crosses her arms, looking at your holobooks. “So er…” You tilt your head. “Reading anything cool?”

“Nothing you’d be interested in,” you say bluntly.

[2/3]
>>
>>44989842
[3/3]

“I’d totally be interested!” You drop a huge holobook in her lap, and she flinches at the weight and scale of it. “… the hell is this?”

“A Complete History of Coruscant by Jeen Kee-Gan. It’s 2,000 pages. Don’t worry, there are footnotes in the margins,” you explain.

She sighs, opening it up and looking at it. “… I just realized, I’m not much of a reader.” You take it from her again. “Hehe…” She twiddles her fingers, smiling at you. “Anyway, I- uh… I won’t bother you.” She stands up, walking to the door.

“Oh?” You look back at her. “Something the matter?”

“Oh, nothing!” She walks to the door, grinning very nervously. “Just- I gotta polish my new ship and er, fix some dents you put in my bike too and R2 really wants me to give him a scrubdown as well and er…” She slowly walks to the door.

Your name is Thomas Cairn, and you were finally starting to get your life figured out. That is, until you managed to blow it all up. You're dad left you a legacy as the Red Rider, and you carry it as the Red Knight, a hero for a modern age. You had your own company, a suit of power armor, an AI assistant, even a girlfriend. You had a great life. Then an unlucky invention put an end to that. It was just supposed to even out some pressure systems; you didn't know it would end up blowing up like Independence Day.

In a flash of blue light, your life was stripped from you, leaving you in a plain room with an intercom blaring. You were covered in scars from the explosion you were saved from, though you quickly remedied that and more with a new invention of yours. After some mistakes were made involving the creation and subsequent escape of a viscous creature called "Kludge", you were decided to be too much of a burden on your erstwhile saviors and captors. They informed you that your mother had given up her life for yours and you had been frozen for 15 years, then they told you to get out. The year is 2033 and the world has changed.

The Supe Kitchen was going splendidly when you checked it out, you even got to mingle with a few up-and-comers. Most thought you were a shape-shifter, but you didn't feel the urge to correct them. Grandpa would be proud, the majority of the costumes there were either skintight or stylized with bright colors. RON updated you on the current situation with Supers, apparently another blast like yours hit worldwide. Super-anythings are commonplace now, and the PC term is AltHuman. Most AltHumans simply get a job that utilizes their skill, but a good portion are still heroes and villains.

You sit in the dressing room while the people in the seats murmur, every news outlet among them. You stare at yourself in the mirror while waiting for the clothes to get here. Your hair is standing up everywhere, like you got shocked or something, and you notice that instead of being brown it's a deep black. You chalk it up to some minor flaw from the Icebox and begin gelling it down.

A woman in some ridiculous glasses and a dress that looks like it shifts colors as she walks wheels in a rack filled with clothes. Most of them make you sick with their blinding Technicolor coats and saccharine neon ties. You finally manage to find some "vintage" suits and begin looking at them. Pretty standard assortment, though with a few odd patterns, until you find a parka nestled in the back with a note.

Good afternoon, ladies and gentlemen of /tg/! I'm back for another edition of Ask A Judge. I'm home for a lazy Sunday afternoon, and there's little I'd like to do more than discuss Magic/rules/Judge stuff with you guys while I watch funny movies.

So, if you have any rules questions, policy questions, Judge questions, anything like that- let me know! I'd be happy to help out.

is there a rule against riffle shuffling my opponent's deck? I got a game loss for unsportsmanlike conduct for doing it at FNM.
>>
>>44988920
I sure hope you didn't, for the following reasons:

1) USC doesn't carry a Game Loss anymore. USC Minor is a Warning, USC Major is a Match Loss, and the other USCs are a Disqualification.

2) Riffle shuffling your opponent's deck wouldn't be any kind of USC. I could see an argument for USC Aggressive Behavior, or MAYBE USC Major if you were intentionally trying to damage the cards, but that's highly unlikely.

3) USC is a penalty in the IPG- the Infraction Procedure Guide. Which is only to be applied at Competitive and Professional Rules Enforcement Levels. FNM is Regular REL, so the IPG doesn't apply- we use the Judging at Regular, or JAR, which has two levels of penalty: Caution + Fingerwag, and "Removal from event"

Anyway, yeah. So long as you aren't damaging your opponent's cards, there's no real 'rule' against it, but your opponent might prefer you not.
>>

what was your opinion of the judge suspensions in December?

Alright guys in a bit of a conundrum as a GM.

The party's paladin let themselves be possessed.

>Trying to intro demons into the campaign
>Run quick little encounter of a child occupied by a low level demon, to set the horror and tone
>They to negotiate with demon, but demon ain't bailing, playing it terrified of being murderfucked in the Abyss (D&D 5e)
>Wizard takes the case, does wizard things
>Shenanigans happen, wizard gets inside the circle and forces out the demon
>See chance for lulz, demon goes to possess Charisma 7 Wizard
>Devotion paladin shoves wizard out of the circle just before demon gets new ride
>Demon goes for 19 CHA Devotion paladin
>Player "I let the demon in"
>wut

Apparently, the player knows a bit about the Abyss and feels sorry for the demon, and want to redeem what is canonically a intelligence formed from scraps of nega evil.

Now, in the past I've given the okay to fail saves based on choice or willpower, so I can't say no sell on that. According to the Booklet of Infinite Horrors I'm using the paly gets three chances to evict the demon (which she could easily do).

Paladins get their powers through their faith, will or oath in 5e, so no demon getting holy smites with out the paly giving the okay first, same for other powers and spells.

While the demon controls the body completely, I figure she CAN talk in the mind, as it were, to start her redemption project.

The problems then, are:

>Should I even have this demon be redeemable?

>How the hell to I portray redemption in a demon, and how do I show it to the players?

And most importantly

>How the HELL do I maintain player agency while they are riding backseat in their own character?!

On one hand, the RP side of things could be amazing, but I don't want to sacrifice mechanical player agency and just have the player sitting at the table doing nothing the whole session. What Do /tg/?

Here are the additional rules for demons I'm using

So then drag it out into a tragic lesson for the paladin? And if not, I still run into

>How the hell to I portray redemption in a demon, and how do I show it to the players?

>>You are AZURE, a machine with a mind, and you were about to ask your friend, Kate, about the location of her biomedical Old Power laboratory. However, when you got there, you got there to chaos. The rebel cell, FREE, has been destroyed by the Arcturus Security Force.

Outside the room, you can hear dozens of people talking, medical machinery running, and a multitude of moaning and injured humans.
Kate's one good hand is clenched, and you and Tandi are sitting down next to her, waiting.

Finally, Dave limps in. He's sweating, and his shirt has a bit of blood on it. His fingers keep shaking.
"... Sorry, Kate." He says. "But we're running out of rooms, and since it's not really essential to keep you close to the equipment..."
"... Alright." Kate says. Dave gives her a nod, and makes his way back out of the room.
"I suppose I'll just go back to my room." Kate says. Her expression is dark, and strangely neutral- as if disconnected from the situation. She pushes herself up and out of bed, and gets to her feet. Her balance looks rather unsteady, but other than that, she seems completely capable.
"Wait!" Tandi says. "You can stay in my room for a bit."
Kate raises an eyebrow.
"... I mean, I don't want you to just mope around in your room all day." Tandi says. "This way, you're forced to interact."
Kate snorts, and rolls her eyes.
"Sure." She says.

After some time, you're in Tandi's brightly colored room, with various posters and piles of bedding strewn around the place. However, there's something new- A flickering television sits in the corner, and you notice a newly-made Throne next to it.
"And this is my room!" Tandi says.
"... I have no idea how we got here." Kate says, looking around. "And I have a near-perfect memory."
"You'll figure it out, don't worry." Tandi says.

Seconding. Shouldn't hurt Kate's mood for us all to take a moment to relax after what was going on at the medbay. And we can attempt to sit on Kate's head while we do.
