You meet the Avatar's charge head on. The weighted silver of your fist collides with the crimson spirit-fire of the Avatar's claw with a resounding clang. The two of you stand dead-locked for a moment as you exert the force of your will against the raw animalistic need of the being before you. Threads of silver and red dance in the cold black emptiness around you as you vie against it for dominance.
You're in charge here. This spirit is bound to you.
The spirit-fire surges from the avatar's claws. You can feel the flesh of your arms bubble and blister under the unexpected heat. The ravaging cold of the void and the hideous heat of the Avatar's primal flame clash on either side of you, leaving you trapped in agony between them. You stagger back a step, then another.
The Avatar breaks the deadlock, leaping back only to pounce again as you stumble off balance. Jagged teeth and serrated claws tear into your arms as you bring them up instinctively to cover your face. You can hear the sound of snapping chains. Is your link coming undone?
Just what the hell is this place?
The Avatar's frenetic assault pierces your guard. One long talon rakes between your arms, tearing a thick ribbon of flesh from your chest. You let out a strangled scream as the spirit-fire spreads through your veins.
What's happening?
The Avatar presses its advantage. Teeth descend on your arms, bone-crushing force leveraging with practiced fury against your flesh. You can feel your bone whining under the strain, threatening to splinter apart.
It wasn't supposed to happen like this.
You scream as your arm snaps like dry kindling under the Avatar of Hunger's jaws. A lance of fresh agony pins you in place, senses overwhelmed.
It can't end like this.
You're not supposed to fall here.

Like the party deciding to dislike your character for sticking to pretty neutral character traits that might go against the party but ultimately supports/helps the party. Think an occasional, 'I'm not okay with this everyone is going to die' rather than 'No fuck you guys I'm getting everyone killed'

Butcher2 list I've been thinking of. It's not playing in tier, because I think butcher2 is cool but not cool enough for me to buy 42 doom reavers for right now. You are Irue Valen, blood heir to House Valen, and you're a little apprehensive about saying that things have been looking up a little recently. Two people you had thought to be have died turned out to have been significantly more alive than previously assumed, and another who had seemingly vanished off the face of the country had just shown back up with information on where your also missing Maid-Secretary had gotten to. That's pulled you back up from three lost Testaments and a missing (m)aid, to only one missing testament - Whom you were already planning to go rescue soon.
Of course not everything was sunshine and daisies.
Ari, one of the people you had worried was dead, was currently commanding a monstrous wooden juggernaut capable of laying siege to your cousin's estate with intent to turn Carona to ruins in order to get back to you. Asche had somehow gotten trapped in order to protect the Tier family, if Kara was to be believed. Kara herself was actually with you now, but evidently she had just finished incapacitating the few Knights of yours who had managed to sneak into the city... You had been planning on them being able to help you, so that was troubling. You'd need to check on them shortly to make sure they weren't too hurt, and maybe salvage a few of their numbers to continue the original plan.
And then there was your last Testament, Rinnier. As part of a family of particularly famous Salamander favoured individuals, her presence here had become practically an ace in the hole for the town mayor's plot to pin an act of mass murder and arson perpetrated out of some stupid notion of independence onto someone else.
Then there was Jill, the local pub girl who had stubbornly gotten herself involved, and subsequently captured...
Still, things were looking up! You had the Shrine's approval to work with you, had regained Kara as an asset in your coming plans, and may have even successfully discounted Roderick entirely by pinning the blame of working with the Mayor on him.
That was... What, two out of three goals accomplished? You take a moment to recount your goals from a few days ago...
Contact knights... Check.
Intercept Roderick's invitation... Check.
Find Asche and Kara... Mostly Check.
...you still had a full day left on your schedule, and you were done already? Granted, Kara had come to you, and Ari had smuggled in the knights of her own accord, so technically it wasn't that you specifically had done it, but everything was done. You take a moment to let that sink in as Jack's panicked commotion continued to come out of Jill's mostly empty apartment. There's this strange feeling you're trying to deal with, but you're not really sure how to explain or approach it. Without even ordering them, two of your Testament had come through for you.

Tobias offers you a set of black robes as you walk into the occult club meeting room, and you take them as you step inside. The floor has been cleared completely to make room for a large circle of powder that Bradley is carefully laying out. Symbols and patterns have already been carved, painted or sculpted across the floor in various configurations, and in the center sits an hourglass with the sand removed and one of the caps taken off. Francine is sitting in the corner with a book, reading through it slowly with a strange smile on her face.
“We're about to get started with the ritual itself, and we'll be done before midnight if Bradley's calculations are correct.”
You slip on the robes and smile at Tobias.
“So what's this ritual supposed to be fore, anyway?”
Bradley looks up at you.
“Immortality, in a sense. A new life, without human limitations. The book said that when four people gather and perform this ritual, one person can be imbued with grand power. As the club president and keeper of the tome, my job will be conducting the ritual. Francine will be our test subject for the ritual to see if it works as intended. You and Tobias will be our third and fourth members, to help complete the ritual. Any other questions before we get started?”

Same system as Become The Dragon Quest. If you don't know what that is, it's best of three d20 rolls. I name a stat that sums up what you're trying to do, and if I don't name a relevant skill, you try to fill in the blank based on what you're trying to accomplish. “Break open the door” might be Strength based, but if you've been playing baseball after school and there's a lead pipe nearby, you could apply your Baseball skill to the roll. A 20 on the die is a crit threat, and if either of the other two rolls is 20 or higher after mods, it's a critical. A crit fail is when you have two or more 1s. So far this system has worked out well enough. We'll get into combat rules as needed, but in basic terms you have wounds, not HP, and the worse the wounds, the more penalties you accrue while doing other things.

Two weeks have passed. Two weeks of large, heavy crates being shuffled into a vast, empty room behind the gym. In fact, you even recall seeing construction and ferrying drones zipping in and out at all hours of the night. They must've been working 'round the clock, 24/7 to get ready. You'd be impressed if it didn't make you realize that Pandora was crammed into what essentially equates to a large storage closet with padded walls.
Over the last few weeks, you spent the majority of your time tutoring Pandora's emotional, educational and thanks to the new upgrades, physical abilities as best you could. In fact, you're pretty confident that you managed to make quite some headway. Pandora is much more attentive and able to avoid distractions during lessons. She's also come quite a long way, going so far as to write her own math equations up to what you've discerned to be around a 7th grade level.
Lastly, at level 3 strength, which should be about the correct level for a small, teenaged human girl, she can hold just about anything without accidentally damaging it.
Today is the day when the military AI, or Ares as you and your team have decided to name it, is activated for the first time. You wake up excited, but on edge. A hard mix of emotions to process, but not unexpected.

A blinding flash of sound and pain knocks you awake.
It seems that your near-death experience was a dream, and you've been shunted awake by the rude sound of your jailer hammering his hand on the bars of your cell.
"Caelius, get the cleanup crew- the silent brat crapped out in his sleep."
Then he sees you awake, and he sneers, rolling his eyes. "Never mind, we just have a beauty sleeper here. Hope your arm's doing well."
It twinges in pain from the wound inflicted on it yesterday, but you can get up and move.
"Get to mess, now. We've got to train you so you don't go down so quickly next time. Three days until the next festival, don't waste it."
He waits for the other stragglers to come out as well, browbeating them more the slower they move.

After a refreshing night of sleep in the hotel, you awoke early to get ready for the interview you will be having with Natasha Fairs and Iris Calling. You had to quietly escape Houki's and Cecilia's grips only to fall to Charlotte's grasps. Carefully leaving them to sweet dreams, you take a hot shower. Thankfully, Chelsea alerted you to the limousine the interviewers prepared. The drive didn't take long as you just missed morning rush hour traffic.
As you enter the spacious lobby, a secretary quickly approaches and introduces herself.
“Mr Smith, I am Maria Garcia. The secretary to Cheryl Morgan.” Maria explains to you.
You give a slightly questioning look over the names which Maria quickly catches onto.
“Miss Cheryl Morgan is the person interviewing you, Ms Fairs and Ms Calling.” Maria informs you.
“Ah, I see.” you reply.
“I believe that is Ms Fairs coming in right now.” Maria points out to you.
Another limo has pulled in to drop off their VIP. Natasha comes out wearing a fashionable light colored dress. She instantly locks onto you and gracefully makes her way through the lobby to you.
“I'm glad to see you are all right.” you say to her.
“Thank you. It's all thanks to you we're all right. Even that child is doing well.” Natasha replies with a smile.
“Child?” Maria asks with a cross of shock and confusion on her face.
