The problem in my experience is that normals are distracted by having multiple conversations with their friends going on at the same time so they can't really give a robot the sort of conversation they're looking for.
I don't want or need to be the center of attention, but if the other person takes 5-10 minutes to respond every time I get really anxious for some reason.

I suffer from the same weird brand of anxiety as the other two posters I think. I feel like if I'm not invited I shouldn't force myself into someone else's situation, so I'll just sit and do my own thing rather than risk being annoying.
Fortunately I don't have family, and have few enough friends, so this rarely comes up for me anymore. I just spend my days alone by default. Clearly I'm the winner.

Holy fuck this. When I look back on what a fucking loser I was when I first went to university l can barely contain myself. Fuck boarding school. I mean I got a decent education, and an awesome accent, but seriously those first few years were terrible. I was so fucking cringey.
Married now, and a decent person but all the same boarding school is social suicide.
