All the alternate timelines were apparently Twilight's, but changed, rather than coexisting dimensional branches - or so Zecora seemed to reveal. Even so, the years between when Rainbow Dash's first sonic rainboom should have happened and the present day diverged wildly and had their own histories and stories to tell, regardless of whether they are still in existence or not. Assumptions might be made, but without learning directly, how could Twilight be certain of what chains of events led to things turning out the way they had? And for that matter, how exactly did the small variations on the same basic change (stopping the rainboom) result in such drastic outcomes? Tracking the ripples as they change the course of the river would be a fascinating study.And what'd Daring Do do in the other times?

Star Swirl the Bearded seems to have left a number of spells in unfinished or rudimentary states. At least, the ones left to greater Equestria, for who could say what knowledge he took with him but the pony himself? Was he working towards any specific purposes, or just for the sake of general magic research? Twilight Sparkle might have wondered at various points in time, but so far in her travels, she's seemed not to have had an opportunity to learn more in depth. The thought of exploring a preeminent unicorn's life doesn't really come up when chaotic vines are strangling Equestria or when she's trying to keep her own timeline in check - priorities.
Perhaps Zecora still has some of that elixir for exploring the past in visions. Where does that zebra find some of her odds and ends, anyhow? Especially things that require alicorn magic?

A successful changeling invasion is a grim tide indeed. At least there are some ways to detect them - but for various reasons, no good permanent solution. Zecora's brew should work fine in the normal timeline, but the logistics in both checking every suspect and keeping them under surveillance to ensure they aren't somehow replaced after a successful pass are prohibitively extravagant, and that's before whatever the cost of the actual materials might be. Still, it might have been useful at Shining Armor's wedding if Twilight could have had some to confirm her suspicions - but then would she have freed Princess Cadance? No use dwelling on the past now, but with Chrysalis and her followers merely blasted away, she might ask the present Zecora if she knows the recipe. Never hurts to use some lessons even from a currently counterfactual history.
