I'm turning a 70'' X 90'' wall into a mural of manga characters (landlord gave permission) because I need time to stop and do something mindless. It's going to take three days, what would be a good website to stream something like this? ( I'd like to get it done in two sittings, figure people watching me would give me motivation not to sleep )

The guy is in his sixties, has a pony-tail, wears a leather jacket with sweatpants and has a habit of stating his emotions outloud like a radio broadcaster. Since he didn't say "well gee, now I'm mad" I basically got free reign to do anything short of lighting it on fire.

How to spot some sleazy entrepreneur marketer
>pause the damn video, don't even give it a second of your viewtime
>check the description to find any website linking back to authors digital product
Oh look, what a surprise. Man says don't follow your passion whilst he is following his by making $$$ off of others telling the self-defeated to give up theirs.

These people plague youtube. They come in all shapes and sizes. They're the ones telling you:
-don't go to college, instead I have X course that will be 10x better
-nobody is hiring, instead I got X product that can get you hired
-your life sucks, I have the solution to my website
-4 minute motivational video, 10 minute spam of come to my website for more goodies
etc etc etc all of which have the same format, same carrot on the stick THEY are the ones making money telling YOU not to do something but they are somehow your savior

And it works, because people are stupid. People love to give up easily. The people who do this are genius exploiting the already given up.

itt: how to miss the point

Hey sorry to bother you guys, I'm not an artist but I noticed that a lot of digital paintings today use the same style and effects, it's hard to tell who's the artist behind many popular fanart paintings. I'm wondering if this is the first time that something like this happens? Is it because of tutorials and patreons and gumroads?

This is not about specific artists or traditional vs digital, I apologize if it's a bad question.

>>
Well observed, but yeah, generally it's not even tutorials, but just the issue with digital, tools are handy and generally you tend to use them rather than restrict yourself.

Crude example: because workflow is generally faster with digital, rather than trying to place one good line you can scribble few until there will be perfect one and erase the rest or even append those lines to one.

Theoretically the same thing, but not quite. And there's lots of such things that build up on top on each other.

Notice that best digital fags generally have very solid painting background. They work differently than most: restrict number of of layers and have different workflow.
>>
Anon it might just be because you dont have a developed enough eye to spot the differences. Chances are, you would think that all renaissance artists are the same too.

>Notice that best digital fags generally have very solid painting background. They work differently than most: restrict number of of layers and have different workflow.
they do that also because they can afford to. if you are a small fry artist you will be asked to change a lot of stuff in your work, and here multiple layers come in handy. but when you are a well know and have artist freedom on your pieces you can work on just a few layers

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

How does /ic/ deal with "starting" a drawing, painting or just sketching something? The majority of the time I can't begin anywhere because I can't picture it in my mind. I know it requires trying but the motivation is just not there. It hasn't been there for years. Every once in a blue moon I'll sit down and do something that I actually put effort in it and recently it was a self portrait. But it's like there's a 3 digit lock on my imagination and I'm stuck on the second number and I've lost the key to my creativity.
How does one break free?

If you don't want to draw, and are unable to "force" yourself to just do it then maybe art isn't for you. People who do this all the time or do it for a job don't usually require extreme measures to make themselves draw.

If you're just lazy then you need to analyze your behavior. Even the best artists don't always want to draw but they're able to make themselves do it because they have to for work or practice.

You have to stop waiting for "inspiration" or "motivation" and instead just force yourself to sit there and do it. It might take you 20 minutes of fumbling around until the good idea hits. Discipline trumps inspiration most of the time. I know for me I might start out with a generic idea but as I get into the sketch and start thinking about things the idea develops into something better. It might take me 10+ sketches to get a good layout and change up the idea before arriving at something worth doing. If I just sat around and waited until I could "visualize" something w/o doing all that work I'd never do anything.

I think you're looking at the act of creating art incorrectly. You don't wait until you have the perfect idea, you create a bunch of shit preliminary work before getting to that good idea. Highly skilled artists can pump out good ideas quickly/without a lot of preliminary work because their preliminary work was the 10-15+ years of expearence prior to starting that sketch.

Along with all that your taste evolves and becomes more refined. (the more art you look at over the years and the more you work) The lame crap you did before you just pumped out no longer appeals to you and you might have to work a little harder to get an idea thats interesting enough to finish.

TL:DR Force yourself to work more, don't be afraid to make bad uninspired art before finding something you feel like finishing.

I like it. And I would like it better done up in acrylic paint. As it is,the concept works: do a few more studies, make the psychdelia more winding and elaborate, and juxtapose those bright trippy colors with a bland dark muted landscape and a plain satellite dish. Then do a Big Work based on the lessons learned in the studies, maybe not in colored pencil, but let the medium suit the colors.

Look up Peter Max. Watch Yellow Submarine.
And Explore Unafraid.

Rumbles Roses illustrator Shiro Kotobuki passed away the morning of the 15th (Japan time).

He became quadriplegic in an accident over 20 years ago, taught himself to draw and kept drawing sexy gals to his death.

So... i completely lack fantasy and creativity in my brain. i love to work on art so much, but i am relizing more and more that all my "original ideas" are just regurgitated things i have seen before. and i know most creativity stems from reusing things that have existed before, but i feel like i lack even the most basic creativity.
I have tried reading more books, watching more movies, i have tried so hard to just develop originality, but i can't. but i really want to. is there anything you guys do that keeps you thinking and inspired?

What are you interested in outside of art? Is there a particular place and time in history that fascinates you? A vacation you took one time where you saw some cool shit? Something you saw in a museum? A type of animal or other thing from nature that you think looks cool? Another hobby? Are you into guitar? Motorcycles? etc.

There are all sorts of things that I am interested in or that I find aesthetically pleasing that have nothing to do with art/movies/video games. Drawing upon those things for inspiration probably helps keep from becoming too artistically inbred.
>>
>>2560764
i am really interested in history, otherwise im mentally pretty empty i guess, art is the only thing im always spending my time with... i would love to draw more history stuff, but i always stop myself because all the poses/thumbnails always look the same.. and then i still end up drawing the same boring portraits, but it ends up being fanart or some boring character.
i wish i could travel to some cool historic locations for inspirations, but thats a bit out of the question at the moment..
i appreciate your advice though, there is definitely truth to what you say

See, there's your problem. You're too self conscious, you start being creative and then you stop when you realize it's no good. Don't do that. Whatever stupid shit you come up with, follow through with it. Sketch it out, plan it out, do thumbnails, whatever. It doesn't matter if it sucks. What does matter is that you keep doing that though, because if you do, eventually you'll hit on to something you actually like. That's all creativity is, generating as many ideas as you can and keeping the good ones. I'm always writing stuff down, most of it will probably NEVER see the light of day. But that's okay, because as long as you keep the creative juices flowing they'll keep flowing, and that's what matters.

A quote I like is "creativity is allowing yourself to make mistakes, art is knowing which ones to keep". It's great you like history too, there's always fun stuff to draw from there. Also, check out this vid:

https://youtu.be/fww9L7XH8Qg

Sometimes, creativity is doing something as simple as drawing a big fish.
