so i had a question, i am making a comic, but i decided the art isnt looking very good, should i try hard to meet my self imposed deadline or should i take a break and learn a bit more (its mainly anatomy not looking the way i want it to and other things.) in either case im still drawing with all of my free time regardless . but which path should i do?
Post an example
If this is your first comic, finish it under the deadline. Learning to keep deadlines and timing your workload are far more important skills for you at this stage. Think of it as a learning experience or a stepping stone for future projects, and no doubt your skill will improve over time as well so don't worry if the anatomy is off right now.

Get the comic done. Your first comic will be shit anyways, but going through the motions is important. You can always go back and fix things or redo them if they are bad, but at least this way you will have a finished product. Delaying making it until you are better will just put things on indefinite hold.
What age are you now, and how good are you at drawing vs when you started drawing?
Do you think you have what it takes?

Seeing as I'm already jealous of this person I've never seen before, I probably have what it takes.
I'm 19 and have been drawing for 2 years i see no improvement. I know it's because I don't draw as much as i should. I can't find the motivation to keep drawing.

damn, they're not even old enough to post on 4chan
Hey /ic/, I need your advice on this.
I am doing a few illustrations for a online comic that will also be printed in a small number. For style of the art we chose collages/photobashed images.
I basically photoshop a collage out of various photos I find online. I build scenes with it. Then I draw over photos to give it a somewhat painted look. So if I go and "steal" an image of a house, it ends up stretched, drawn over and in a different context.
Its not like I only make minor changes. I modify it strongly. That should be ok right?
Or could someone...

holy fcking shit, that is ugly.
my advice is: dont make photobashings and collages
learn how to draw
end this madness

this is why i got into art. I always wanted to rip images off of google search and pull them together like a kindergartner.
How do you guys find the discipline and determination to finish a practice piece?
I've heard two schools of thought on this, some people say if you're not enjoying a drawing you should abandon it, others say you should power through.
I find it hard to keep going with something the moment I see a (big) mistake and almost all of my work is unfinished because of it.
Make everything with the intention of widely sharing it on social media.
The idea of sharing an incomplete piece of shit is often enough to power through to something somewhat acceptable. Plus you're posting online, which is always a good thing.
If its your personal work:
> if you're not enjoying a drawing you should abandon it
If its commision or any other payed work
>you should power through
>>2567234
That means you use outer motivation (in your case social media) instead inner (selfmotivation) which basicaly means you are pushing your work for the sake of others.
Enjoy your quiting art moment when it comes.

How does /ic/ organize their art folders?
I have just under 20 thousand pictures saved on to my computer by various artists, and am completely overwhelmed at the idea of sorting them.
I would like to organize them into some kind of reference library, sorted by what it is I want the image for. That alone is daunting enough, but of course many of the images have multiple things i saved them for, ie, line work, general anatomy, maybe just the way an eye or hand was drawn.
How do you guys keep accumulated images sorted?
Stop being a little shit and just organize them in folders. I have one folder named "art shit" then in there I have 5 different folders. "Works in progress" "Scraps" "Completed Works" "References" "More Random Art Shit". It's not fucking hard.

This thread is meant for artists who might want to try to make anime works in-between their studies. It is strongly recommended that you use this thread in conjunction with learning the elements and fundamentals of art. You can also discuss the visual elements of various professional artists as well if you keep it relatively articulate and civil.

Did I do this right?
Because we should not have to make new threads or post in draw threads with our fundamental exercises.
Feel free to post even the smallest exercise you have done to show you are still trying, do not give up, make your mom proud.
AVOID asking unrelated questions, there is a question thread for that.
Visit the usual "Artbook Thread" to find your desired books. (Or look in the new sticky)
Do not forget to PLEASE RESIZE and crop your images before uploading them. 1kpx is fine.

There's a new sticky in town! You can see it at:

First time sculpting and I need your help /ic/. I've been trying to figure out the height of this character based on the gun which should be around 78cm long, and I think she should be around 150~155cm accounting for the slightly over head perspective, her leaning forward, and the gun at an angle. What do you guys think?
Here's what I have and I think the body looks a bit small
I've cut the body apart and I'm gonna make it bigger. Anyway does the cross section look alright?
>>2564139
I'm not a pro but...Shouldn't you be making a body like a BJD? Or at least making a model first?
need some artistic references for faces like the one shown her, or faces of distress. thanks

So I have two monitors, and the bigger one sits off to the side and that's the one I draw on. I'm rearranging my desk around so that I don't have the tablet sitting on my lap while I draw and that my larger drawing monitor is centered in front of me.
My dumb question is what do I put on the other monitor while I draw? If I'm not going to use it what's the purpose of having two monitors? The best thing I can come up with is having one of those slideshows of poses on it for doing gestures.

That seems like that'd be distracting?

use it for easy acces to somethingg you are listening too, i really like to listen to sleepycast, but you may aswell listen to music or anything that comes to mind that either inspires you or eases your mind. as i said the second monitor can be used for easy acces without anyoingg minimizing.
Does anyone know how I can achieve this type of wave effect in photoshop? I'm looking for filter tutorials in general.
>>2566304
There are two things to look:
- Imagemagick
- G'mic
>>2566315
do you have any idea what this kind of rendering is called? I only got the OP ART as a name on gmic.
>>2566379
In fact there are similar effects to emulate an "etching" style, in particular to get things like the glorious Doré illustrations.
If you want to do the exact same effect with a filter*, it might require a lot of work, but I found things that are fairly close in Gmic's doc yesterday.
*I'm pretty sure this was done by hand. You could achieve something in this style by hand in vectorial, by placing your waves carefully, and then moving the thickness points by hand.
Anyone here used any Huion display tablets? I was thinking of getting the GT-190S, but I can't really decide. I've never had a display tablet, and I've seen a few bad reviews for the 190S, but more good ones. I know it won't be as good as a Cintiq, but it's cheap as fuck by comparison.
>>2557219
Oh yeah, and the Yiynova MSP19U+ is another one I was considering.
>>2557219
For the price range, would it be better to try and start with something like this, or something like an intuos 5- if you're already very used to drawing in traditional?
>>2560343
I don't really think screenless tablets are worth it. The disconnection between your hands and the drawing is way too much. ESPECIALLY if you have a small one so you're stuck either drawing in a tiny as fuck box, or you have it scale so it moves more on the screen than you move your pen.
