post yours
also there was a guy who posted his tumblr a few weeks ago whos work i'm trying to find again. we discussed how you got popular on tumblr by doing fan art (steven universe i think) and i asked if you worked professionally. you said you were a student. i think somewhere in europe, the netherlands maybe. your work was in between cartoony and realistic. there was a backpacked character i mentioned i really liked. sorry for the giant spam i just wanted to look at your art again if anyone has any clues as to who im talking about please point me in their direction
if anyone can help out it'd be appreciated. he did a lot of somewhat stylized portraits. pretty good draftsmanship forgot to mention
lot of linear works with pretty flat shading from what i recall
I don't know

How to learn to draw more expressively? How does one stop drawing things that are rigid or boring and with personality that coerce emotion from the viewer?
>>2433576
You draw with your dick.
>>2433576
exaggeration
Confidence and exaggeration. Get good at gesture.
Stiffness when you're learning is inevitable if you're trying to be precise and you're not confident in your subject matter. There's a reason lots of artists say their sketches feel more 'dynamic' than their finished pieces, it's less precise but it's more lively.
Really experienced artists have just done it so much that they can be both precise and quick, and know where and when to bend the rules/exaggerate.
And it should go without saying but study artists you like for their expressiveness. Try and figure out what it is they're doing that makes you tick.
What name do you post your art under and how did you choose it?
It seems like every name I like is already taken on deviantart and tumblr. I need an original name, but I want it to be simple and memorable.
Also, do you think it looks less respectable if an artist uses dashes, hyphens, x's or numbers at the end of their name?
Sup /ic/. The story is long and boring so you might skip some parts. But im kinda shocked right now and 4chan is the only person i can share this with.
So...i have a friend that i talk to sometimes in a normiebook. He is a guy older than me from music industry.
Once i had a serious problem with life and he talked to me giving life-advices and other stuff like that and in return i drew his portrait which he put on an avatar and other normies liked it calling me "very talented :-)".
This basically was our friendship/bonding thing.
Later he suggested me to work on an animation video for his music track. We talked about it with couple-three messages and got excited.
The thing is...i thought he was suggesting me a job. And i will work with him later when i will be free from my current project im being busy with.
In reality...today when i talked to him it turned out like he was expecting me to draw it FOR FREE all this time...and he thought i actually already have something to show.
I was shocked. I had no idea that he actually expected me to do all that hard work for free.
Dont get me wrong - i suffered from "Hey mr.Artist! do this for me for EXPERIENCE AND EXPOSURE :D" bullshit many times but it was back in the day when i was starting to draw.
And i had no idea that a person who is an artist himself from a music industry would actually ask me to draw animation of a song (that means more than 3 minutes) for free.
I sent him a message politely explaining that "um...am i understood you right?" and explaining that it's a hard work that no sane artist would do without payment.

The thing is...i dont actually have friends irl. Only clients in the internet and friends that i found through drawing days.
I was so excited to have this person as a friend. I was under imression of "Oh wow! i have a friend who is a guy from music industry!" feel. And i don't want to loose him.
In the other hand...im starting to think that if this person actually was expecting me to do a full animated video for free then he might not respecting me...
How to save this friendship?
Anyone been in such a tricky/confusing situation?
we /r9k/ now xD
Read sticky/loomis
Lets say I needed an inker for a short comic. Where would I look to find them? How much should I pay Any tips?
Thank you.
Wow. No replies. Thats depressing.

What was the last art book you purchased?
'S-Curves' and 'Lily and Flinch' by Shane Glines and Bill Presing's Sketchbook.
I know you said "last" but I bought those all at the same time.

How do you learn how to do these typical ID sketches with 0 drawing skills?
I am asking because here people seem to be focused on drawing in general and especially on people. But for ID I wouldn't need that. The focus is on geometric shapes and quick drawings with simple shadows and low detail. Pretty much the opposite of what I see people here aspiring to do.
So: how do I start as someone who can't draw straight lines and only shapes from isometric perspective? Is there one book that starts from level 0, expecting no previous drawing skills?
If you study/ied ID: how did you start?
Start by drawing simple shapes like cubes, cones and spheres. Working from life would be best. You can make these shapes out of wood, use common objects, or purchasing them (most toy stores would have basic shape blocks for little kiddies you can use).
Don't be afraid to use a straight edge ruler, a compass, or a french curve (a curved flat tool to use as a guide to draw curved lines) to make your marks since these are supposed to be technical drawings.
Eventually when you become confident with basic shapes, you can graduate to doing studies of everyday mechanical objects around your house.
>>2432465
How exactly do you do studies? Just trying to draw what you see right away or try to construct it out of shapes?

Anyone here got any OC they like to share?
Here's Nemi, drawn and colored in Manga Studio 5.

I noticed you hid all of her hands and feet.

I suck at hands and feet... Not even gonna lie
>>2429731
i bet you'd suck at them less if you didn't avoid drawing them
this is my pride and joy
Does anybody here work as an architect or are you a student? What is it like? How closely related is it to art? Whats the environment like/work hours, etc. I'm thinking about majoring in it.
>>2423784
>Architect
If you want to work your ass off and still act like a sheep so that you can sometime get a promotion, then sure. Get ready to kiss ass.
My advice? Take up something that makes money and do architecture on the weekends. That's what I plan to do with my art.
>>2423784
>Does anybody here work as an architect or are you a student?
Student
>What is it like?
Like not sleeping 3 times a week and getting shouted for not sucking your teacher's cock
>How closely related is it to art?
Nowadays? Not much. Sure, you get some big name architects doing fancy artistic shit but mortals usually can't propose interesting stuff. Most graphics are done in computer and you're only expected to be able to draw decent plans: You will get some really basic drawing classes but those are for making croquis and sketching ideas, the final images are usually made in 3D programs or similar.
>Whats the environment like/work hours
Depends on the job that you want, where do you want it and with whom, but it averages in: Shit/Forever hours a day plus carrying work to your home.
>I'm thinking about majoring in it
It's a fun major, but it traumatized me thanks to some douchebag teachers. Still, if you want to be an artist, you'll have it easier in fine arts to develop your skills, otherwise you'll have no time to practice thanks to all those plans that must be finished.
Honest question, isn't an architect just a shitty civil engineer?

Something's broken, what do I do?
>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].
What do we draw?
>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.
What's a low effort warning?
>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.
>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.
What happens if I'm eliminated?
>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.
How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?
>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.
Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?
>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

this link directs you to see the past submissions of artist without being part of the challenge. sort of like a "passive viewer mode" in an atelier except this isn't the the Louvre and you dont get to speak french with jeff watts. >http://lavaflake.com/draw/active.php
as always congratulations to those still holding on you're doing a great job be positive stay strong and believe in the process .
Who else has reached the point where they have thrown away all integrity and humility and go as far as copying other artists, slightly changing something and passing it as your own? I'm there now, I cannot take it anymore since everyone else seems to get away with it meanwhile I strive not to do that and get absolutely nothing but grief out of it.
If you are still holding on to whatever shred of integrity you have left remember these words - good artists copy, the great ones steal.
Forgive me /ic/ for I am about to sin there's no turning back now.
