What are some good alternatives to water that don't have too much sugar or empty carbs?

My favorites are tea and club soda + bitters.
You can get bitters in lots of flavors (lemon, grapefruit, rhubarb, etc). A few drops in club soda makes a delicious and totally calorie and sweetener-free drink.

What's the difference between eating

and

Stuff like oils, steak and fats are higher in calories, but oats and chicken are low calorie. Is there a difference in getting your calories from one type or the other?

Its easier to get your calories in with the high density stuff. That's more or less it - everything else would be dependent on what high or low calorie foods you're eating.
You'll usually get more nutrents out of the low calory dense foods

calorie is just a unit of measurement. Your question is like asking if there is a difference between 1 ton of iron and 1 ton of feathers.
What's important is the nutrients those calories come from.

Hey /fit/, I posted here back in december, how I started a diet and have been posting my progress.
Its been going fairly well, I have lost 50 pounds since I started on december 21st(started before christmas because I figured if I could make it past christmas I could make it a year). My diet was originally 2200 cals a day, then 2000 after a week, then 1500, after a month, and I've set my calorie limit to 1200 a day. However, I have some questions.
First off: When does it get hard? I get some cravings, sure, but its been pretty easy.

Look at 50 lbs as a massive victory and start eating more. Your metabolism is getting raped by this few calories. If it's really that easy for you, imagine how easy eating at a 100 calorie deficit would be. You could maintain a healthy metabolism and even add in lifting to boost it even more.
tldr find out your TDEE, eat at -100 calories, aim for 1lb a week, adjust accordingly

When I started this, I was at 345 pounds. I talked to /fit/ about it and they said that 2000 won't get much results, and I should go for 1500 and "not be a wuss". I then decided to one-up them and go for 1200 a day.

Yeah, but I'm referring mostly to the way the fat is stored. I have visible abs. My ripcage is clearly exposed. I only have fat in those specific places.
I work out all day long. Every day. My diet could be a little better, but it's really not that bad either.

I know there are different types of disciplines but I was wondering which was the easiest to get into at an older age (late 20's).

brazilian jiu jitsu has a very good culture for people starting the sport in their 20s, 30s, 50s. I think anthony bourdain is in his late 50s and just started and got a blue belt in BJJ
