Tomorrow i'm heading to the gym for the first time w/ my friend. I don't want to look like a complete moron so can anyone recommend me a good exercise plan for start? I'd like to lose weight but get some muscles too in the process if possible.

my mom is 44, has that bad body type (pic related) and nothing seems to help her, since she got fragile tendons from when she was younger. She'd like to get healthier, but cycling hurts her back, running hurts her tendons, can't even raise her arm above her head... it's really sad.
Any tips, type of exercise...? Thanks.

Any /fit/izens know of good exercises and workout routines that simulate armed combat?
Aside from general PT, what does the military do to prepare soldiers for firefights? Anyone know any special drills/routines that the police or military use for exercise?

For fire fights you run 3 steps get down on your guts and start crawling.
Rinse and repeat until the fight is over, so basically have good cardio and power to weight ratio
FYI, I am not trying to be a "tough guy" thinking that I can be a Navy SEAL or anything.
I realized that I am just plain ol' uneducated when it comes to military training.
How practical are certain military exercises? I know some aspects of PT are meant to mentally break you by physically breaking you, especially with bootcamp-overwork.
But when I see some of the stuff like this (picture related), I can't help but raise an eyebrow.

I've posted on fit everywhere from 198 to 300+ lbs.Been gone for maybe a yr and a half. from here Natty guy here and firmly believed in getting
fat as shit to grow.
Last year was the first year in nearly 20 that I didnt train - had surgery Dec 31st and pic one
is my skinnyfatass in febuary.Last one is like a week or
so ago. From 195 to 235 in 11-12 weeks with the
first month being little dumbells and resistance bands mostly.
Pushing 40 and have never grown like this in my life.

many years. On wednesdays its all upper body-
mostly compunds - bench, chins, rows - not
much overhead as Ive now fixed both shoulders, light belt squats between sets..
on sat I'll both pull and squat - different variations-one heavy, one not so much - mess with stones or do farmers or yolk - whatever
I can actually manage to get halway through with
the strongman guys...finish with reverse hypers...

I'm currently writing a research paper about the dangers of the HAES movement and how their points are totally full of shit or are attempting to force their way of life on the general public
So I'm looking for more evidence in the form of how being fat damages society, the people around them and how they're fucking up colleges and other public places with their entitlement.
