I'm looking to start practicing a martial art this upcoming quarter. I'll be signing up for instructional courses at my uni since they're cheap, so I'll be taking advantage of that.
Some background: I'm 21, male, olympic weightlifter in good shape. I've practiced ashtanga yoga for two years, so I'm pretty balanced and mobile.

Do you want to learn to fight or not? Legit question, many martial arts do not teach efficient fighting skillsets but have some amazing body control, athletisicm, balance, acrobatics, etc

Fair question. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't. I know Aikido is probably something that's essentially what you're describing.
Ideally, I'd love something that's balanced. High degree of athleticism and skill required, with a high degree of carryover in varied real-life situations.

Patellar tendonitis here shit sucks, but keeping limber and adding the right muscle prevents most problems
I'm quire sure i have this. My left knee hurts so badly when i go down stairs.
I can sqaut and do everything else without pain so i dont mind too badly.
I've started to stretch my quads more these days.

The chance that anyone here knows what youre dealing with is miniscule and any advice you get is probably wrong, just go to a doctor.

Work out harder, drink tons of water before bed, minimize hangovers, and don't skip a meal or the gym for booze.
Stop drinking beer, ever. I hear people say vodka is good, personally I drink rum and diet coke. Don't go out to bars, drink at home because at the bar you're likely going to eat the terrible food.
You're probably better off if you stop it altogether, because it will kill your motivation and lead to some stupid setbacks. Coming from personal experience here, because I know it's not your goal to quit and I've had to work around this for myself as well.

How many drinks do you have a day? Use American standard drinks if you're unsure on what measurements.
