So it's the end days of 2015 /ck/ and I've been thinking about how a lot happened news-wise in food & cooking this year.
A few stories & trends were good, but a lot of others weren't. Therefore I thought I'd make a roundup ITT of notable stuff in 2015.

http://www.nbcnews.com/news/us-news/43-washington-oregon-chipotle-restaurants-closed-after-e-coli-outbreak-n455166
http://www.foodsafetynews.com/2015/12/chipotle-outbreak-illness-count-hits-514-as-cmg-stock-dives-below-500/
http://consumerist.com/2015/12/11/chipotles-bad-year-continues-with-closure-of-seattle-restaurant-for-repeated-violations/
One of the biggest stories was the fall from grace of Chipotle. Starting in July, their massive E. coli & Norovirus outbreaks have sickened over 500 patrons with at least 5 different strains of the bacteria confirmed as the fallout looks to continue into 2016. It has forced the closure of 43 restaurants, a reassessment of Chipotle's safety procedures, and has resulted in a 35% loss for the company's stock in less than 3 month which now sits at a 2-year low.

http://lubbockonline.com/business/2015-04-22/blue-bell-dispose-8-million-gallons-ice-cream-after-recall
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/dept-of-justice-investigating-blue-bell-for-deadly-listeria-outbreak/

As bad as the Chipotle situation was at least nobody has died from it, yet.
The same can't be said for the listeria-tainted Blue Bell brand ice cream case this year which killed at least 3 people, sickened many others, and caused the recall of more than 8 million gallons of ice cream across 23 states. Blue Bell was criticized for it's piece-meal recalls until DNA testing confirmed multiple product contaminations from multiple plants. It would eventually take a total shutdown and drastic overhaul of it's plants and practices costing more than $125 million and the layoffs 1,450 of its 3,900 employees and furloughing 1,400 more to address the problems before their products would be allowed by regulators back in grocers' freezers.

In fact, bacterial DNA matches to listeria in other outbreaks linked with Blue Bell go back to 2010 and internal documents show managers knew of contaminations at one plant since at least 2013. During the shutdown FDA investigators found condensation dripping directly into ice cream and unsanitary equipment at plants, and former workers told CBS that rainwater from leaky roofs would also drip onto the assembly floor with management unconcerned.

Two days ago, news broke that the Department of Justice has initiated an investigation into the situation.

http://www.thedailymeal.com/news/eat/alert-tyson-recalls-more-52000-pounds-putrid-chicken/111715

Frozen poultry was especially hit hard this year.
Aspen Foods had to recall roughly 2 million pounds of fresh, frozen, and breaded chicken products between April and July over a salmonella outbreak. Around that same time, Barber Foods had to recall 1.7 million pounds of raw chicken products also due to salmonella contamination. In September Sanderson Farms had to recall over 550,000 pounds of chicken after metal shavings were found in them by a receiving wholesaler due to a malfunctioning ice machine. Tyson had to recall 52,000 pounds of Any’tizers pre-cooked hot wings over foul smells and possible adulterants in November.

Grocery store autism thread? Or any interesting grocery store stories.

>work produce
>sell many fruits and vegetables by weight
>some sweaty fat redneck chick comes in
>wearing a wifebeater, fat rolls, and sweatband
>starts cutting up different apples and vegetables and weighing them
>literally cuts apples in thirds and only takes a piece of it
>does the same for different vegetables
>leaving portions of cut up fruits and veggies all over my department
>confront her and ask her why she's ruining my meticulously cared for department
>she starts screaming about her rights as a customer and how our produce is sold by weight
>brother in law who is a policeman happens to be drinking coffee and eating breakfast in the deli walks over
>hammie McSweatband is wailing and flailing about, blathering about consumer rights and muh prejudice (everyone was white)
>he cuffs her up and arrests her right there in the store
>townies start clapping

tbqh I didn't do anything at all other than ask her why she was cutting shit up. She started screaming and making a scene so that everyone in the store could hear.

Do you really get your kicks by starting a new poll thread every time the last one dies?

It doesn't matter how many replies your thread gets, because nobody actually reads it or cares.

This is just an easy way for lurkers to post and for you to get guaranteed replies. In other words, this is a garbage thread that everyone is going to have to spend the next few days looking at, until you start a new one, but nobody is actually going to read.

I keep mine simple

Beef goes into crockpot
Add crushed tomatoes
Add two cup water
Salt and pepper to taste

Let sit on low over night

In morning add:
Water (desired amount depends on you)
Carrots
Onion
Celery
Potatoes (cubed small)
Oregano
Thyme
Rosemary
Additional salt and pepper to taste

If I'm feeling ballsy I'll throw a cap full of liquid smoke and some whiskey in there.
>>
Acquire beef, I tend to use chuck roast.
Cube beef, season with salt and pepper, brown thoroughly on the stove.
Remove beef to rest, in same pot add a diced onion.
Add salt, sweat onion and deglaze your pan.
Add crushed or fine minced garlic and cook slightly, but do not brown.
Add a bottle of your favorite dark beer, most any stout, Porter, or red/brown ale works. I used a founders scotch ale last time I made it and loved that.
Return beef to the pot along with carrots of your desired size, and add beef broth/stock to a level that looks good to you.
Season to taste and cook until beef is as tender as you like, adding broth if needed along the way.
Serve over red skin mashed potatoes.

Wa la
>>
>>7215287
wa la?
really?
that sounds really good, though
I'll have to try it like this
when you deglaze, do you find that the liquid from the onions is enough, or do you add liquid?

You should always peel cucumbers!Depending on what fertilizer was used to grow them the skin may contain some very nasty chemicals.

Chick-fil-a is removing their coleslaw from the menu, to make up for it they released the recipe. Pretty bro move really

Last I checked it is on netflix.
Also your English could be improved if you said, "Is there somebody here who has been to his restaurant?" or "Has anyone here been to his restaurant?"
pic unrelated, but food related.
