Here in the Baltics (and I believe all over Eastern Europe) this is what we mean when we say garlic bread - fried rye bread sticks, topped with fresh minced garlic, and sour cream-based dipping sauce. It is by far the most popular food item in pubs, it's literally impossible to find a place that doesn't serve them.

I've fallen in love with baked beans again but I'm worried about all the sugar and I can't seem to avoid it with canned beans so I've elected to make my own.

Do any of you fellow legume lovers have a favourite recipe?

beans + tomato paste + chili powder, black pepper, plus whatever spices you prefer.

simmer for a couple minutes, then let cool for around 10 minutes. Then add some sort of sweetener. Sugar free maple syrup, aspartame, splenda, whatever you prefer.

If you do a bit of googling you can see who actually makes those Trader Joe's beers. Here in Connecticut, it's contracted through Cottrell Brewing Co. in Pawcatuck. Not great beer by any means, but a better six-pack than what you can usually get for $5
