I'm considering buying the brand new Raspberry Pi 3 model B but I'm just wondering if it is a good value. I'm very interested in the multitude of projects available and I do have programming experience. Also I'm curious how cheap I could build a 3d printer using this raspberry pi

any recommendations on how to power a raspberry pi like a battery or something similar ?

Not sure I understand the question...you want to power an rpi with a battery? Look up the rpi power requirements, and then look for rechargeable lion batteries and a battery case to hold them?

actually I need to power a pi and arduino + 18 servos each servo needs 150ma

So... Do the math and buy an appropriate battery? What do you need us for?

Probably a surface mount capacitor. I would otherwise say resistor but they don't typically burn up like that unless you did something horrific to it. Just look up the model number of a nearby one and solder some new ones onto it and hope the rest of the board is not fried.

Just search for surface mount capacitor in a search engine, you can buy them from countless places for cheap, example: https://www.sparkfun.com/products/retired/11244

I have a beat to hell portable Motorola record player that I'm modifying to a smaller, more portable version. I had the idea to maybe add a headphone jack running straight from the needle, but it looks like no one has done this before. Would a record player stylus produce sufficient voltage to produce sound through headphones?

I could do this, (in fact I was probably going to ditch the duino anyway and just use a standalone chip) I'm just using some PWM to control light fades and color cycles.

I was still thinking of ways to get it done. Idealy, I would use a simple speaker that I could upload a simple sound file to (It's gonna say some cringe shit like "welcome home master" and that's all). I considered bluetooth, but...

Hi /diy/, we need your help,

We are working on an art installation and we need 1 kilometer of black flexible cable.
The ideal diameter is 10 millimeters but it could be a bit less or more.
It could be an empty pipe/sheath because we don't need to electrify it.
Also, we don't need a single piece of 1 km, it could be 10*100m for exemple.

We are obvioulsy looking for the cheapest solution.

Do you have any ideas and/or advices ?

pic related : it's a test we've made

Hope this helps...

Coax cable. I don't know the exact diameter in mm tho. It's about 1/4 of an inch tho.

Or pneumatic tubing. Not sure of exact cost but it comes in various diameters.

/diy/ I have a problem and would like your input

I have mice in the walls of my apartment. As far as I know, none have chewed through the walls yet but I can hear them gnawing. Problem is I'm on a lease so I can't fuck with the property to get rid of them. I plan on living in this shithole apartment for a while so I'd like to deal with this problem. My landlord won't help and he's also literally retarded so asking him isn't an option. The building has a bad rodent problem but I live on the top floor so I figured it wouldn't be an issue...

you'll never get rid of mice but you can keep the numbers down. drill a 1.25-inch hole in wall and put one of those live-capture swinging-door traps against the hole, gluing to a piece of 2x4, for example, to give it weight.

(dunno how the electric one in the pic works, i just use a spring-loaded mechanical one)

Document asking him so you can use it against him later, should any of your property get damaged or he accuses you for damage caused by rodents.

Ok, /diy/ i want to harden an anvil. I'm going to buy 2 feet of railroad track and shape it for an anvil, i want to at least. Before i drop the $65 for 2' of track I'm curious if i can case harden it myself. I have a budget if $50 (after buying the track) and lots of eucalyptus wood to burn, some coal, and a blower to pump air in the fire. What steps and materials should i get to successfully harden an anvil? Pic related, the size of track

I'm curious, if you have 115 dollars why don't you buy a used anvil or are they ridiculously high priced where you are?
>>
>>954677
All the used anvils I've seen in a 100 mile radius of me in that price range arebeither small jewellers anvils or hornless anvils. I dont jave $300-500 for an anvil right now.
>>
>>954672
First, do you need to harden it? Depending on how much you're going to use it, you may not need to. Find out how hard it is, see how aggressive a file is on it, hit it a time or two with a hammer, it may be hard enough. If you still need to harden it, try to find out what kind of steel it is, you may not be able to harden it anyway. The steps to harden are heat, quench, temper, but on a piece that size... Good luck controlling the tempering heat long enough to do it right. That's if you can get it hot enough,...

What do you think about this kind of housing ?

Exept the master race comfy style, do you think it will have real environmental and economic benefit ?

>>954659

the market prices are over the top for the commercially available ones

they require far less energy to heat/cool so they are, as consumption go, environmentally friendly, especially if the build uses recycled materials

the same goes for the economic benefit if you do it yourself or find a craftsmen who will not skin you alive for it

the permits however are a bitch, that's why most are build on top of trailers, so they can be considered non-permanent

as to what I think.... well at...

>>
>>954659
Call them what they are: mobile homes. They are fancy trailers for hipsters that don't want to live in a trailer park. Shitty ones at that. They cost a lot more per square foot unless you get a bunch of the materials free and you consider the labor you dump into it worthless. Or you can spend $50k building one that looks like a real house or you can spend $25k and buy one prefabricated that has a real kitchen, real bathroom and is 3 times larger. If cost really is the issue just get a mobile. Lets be real though;...
