Did Episode VII have any cringey or bad moments? I think some of the flaws were in the plots details and execution but it seems like it didn't have any bad moments except maybe for that camera shot at the very end.

Okay so let me explain this shit for you.
When the Rebels took out all of the high end leaders of the Empire, they didn't kill EVERY leader. The empire was spread out across the Galaxy. HOWEVER, with the massive power gap from the top Empire leaders being dead, the Rebels were able to force themselves in to a position of power and conquer the Empire politically.
However, even though the newly formed New Republic was in control, there were still pockets of Empire left in the galaxy. Since the New Republic wanted to give the illusion that there was no more war or conflict, they formed a shadow army known as the Resistance to fight back against the remaining pockets of Empire.
What we see in episode 7 is the few remaining pockets of the empire taken over by one leader, who is NOT a sith or a jedi, merely a follower of the dark side's beliefs and the Empires ideals.
So tl;dr - New government doesn't want people thinking there is still conflict, so they form a shadow army to take out any and all remnants of the old government, who ends up getting ruled by a single leader.
