A thread dedicated to discussion and feedback of games and homebrews made by /tg/ regarding anything from minor elements to entire systems, as well as inviting people to playtest your games online. While the thread's main focus is mechanics, you're always welcome to share tidbits about your setting.
Try to keep discussion as civilized as possible, avoid non-constructive criticism, and try not to drop your entire PDF unless you're asking for specifics, it's near completion or you're asked to.

Last thread successfully hit the bump limit, so here's to another good one for the next few days.
From previous thread, RE: Static Blue
>>47061768
I'm really not familiar with any games that really handle hacking as a core game mechanic in an elegant or interesting way. I'm sure there must be but I lack much of a frame of reference.
Still, separating combat hacking and puzzle hacking is definitely a good idea.
>>47063040
The problem Im running into is every hacking system I think of is entirely independent of the rest of the system. So maybe I make it a simple mini game?
>>47063691
One though is to maybe construct hacking as another kind of combat. Your system is d20+dX vs TN, yes? On a hit you roll for damage.
You could conceivably do something similar for hacking. Your actions in the network are against specific defenses or for the purpose of achieving specific goals. If you succeed you inflict damage against the ICE or whatever is slowing you down, or you do direct "damage" to your target in the form of procuring information/access/whatever.
>The trifunctional hypothesis of prehistoric Proto-Indo-European society postulates a tripartite ideology ("idéologie tripartite") reflected in the existence of three classes or castes—priests, warriors, and commoners (farmers or tradesmen)—corresponding to the three functions of the sacral, the martial and the economic, respectively.
Dude. What if people who find themselves drawn to intellectually stimulating traditional games have ancestors who belonged to a priestly class, and people who gravitate towards sports have warrior ancestors?
>>47137406
Well, the problem there is it totally devalues the individual ("But mooom I dont wanna be a priest of Ishtar, I wanna wear fedoras and be awful!") AND their environment. (Take a jock's baby and leave him in a library and he won't instinctively start doing push-ups on the books) Plus you're going back so many generations that people probably have ancestors from all three of those general "castes" so it becomes a meaningless distinction.
>>47137406
If that's true you have a long line of ancestors who loved sucking dick.
>>47137406
>people who find themselves drawn to intellectually stimulating traditional games have ancestors who belonged to a priestly class
People who love strategy games with an implicit or explicit martial dimension probably have warrior blood in them.
Similarly, people who like flavour-of-the-month zombie board-games and the like probably have dirty commoner blood flowing through their veins.
Welcome back, to the fifteenth chapter of Mecha Space Pirate Quest!
As always, you are Admiral Roarke Susan Starwind of the Iron Kestrels space pirate fleet, master of the starship Rhinehawk, and pilot of the terrifyingly crit-prone Knuckle Kaiser.

The new pastebin contains the stats for non-Kaiser mecha you've met. It's somewhat incomplete right now, due to spending most of my focus on statting the Bluegill and (shockingly expensive) S-Betta.
Last time, you discovered the monster waiting for you on the mining asteroid of Suleiman 1, the UJCIDF prototype Tarrasque, confirmed with Samantha that something is rotten in SOUL Force, and had a conversation with Fatima that, for once, didn't leave you with a headache. You also sent the Master Harpy trio ahead with a dozen of the Iron Kestrels' Bluegills to secure the colony itself.
Today, you drive the Green Skulls off the colony completely, and straight into hell where they belong.
>>47140268
Lets make sure that the team we send to clean the colony keeps a couple green skulls alive so we can find out where they stashed the mech
A note on Bluegills. Yours, by the way, come from the Stone Soldiers, who programmed theirs to use several different weapons and armed them with the expanded thruster portfolio featured in the Bluegill Joe simgame, as a mark of their self-proclaimed elite status. UJCIDF Bluegills are slower, and almost always use a sword in place of the mace.
You may have noticed that Bluegills are both considerably sturdier and less expensive than Harpies, and might furthermore be wondering why pirates use Harpies at all. There are two main reasons.
First, the CP cost of a Harpy is what you would pay to build one from scratch. Pirates almost always convert their base Harpies from civilian Sparrows, and so pay only a fraction of that cost per Harpy as the Sparrow provides the jet transformation, thrusters, and the entire body.
Second, the Harpy has two minor defensive advantages. Firstly, it's faster in jet mode and can run away if it needs to. Second, and this is something your melee-focused main mech hasn't had to worry about, ranged attacks are not automatically called shots and instead strike a random location on the target when they hit. Bluegills have 6 locations, Harpies have 8 due to possessing wings. As a result, the damage a Harpy takes will be slightly more spread out...but in the end, a Bluegill ends up being sturdier.
I also mildly buffed the S-Betta's electric pilebunkers from 4K to 6K, because 4K no AP is pathetic and I like the S-Betta. It's a ridiculously expensive machine, even by SOUL standards, but incredibly hard to detect when cloaked.
>>47140316
Acknowledged, Miles and Richard know to interrogate a few of them to find out about the Tarrasque...but you can't ask them to actually spare them. Once they're done, anyone who's a Green Skull is getting a bullet to the brainpan.

As if I would ever reveal my secret plan to gather enough CP to buy the Divine Lion option in Narnia.
Wait.
Shit.
>>47139678
Changed the first two. Not sure how I missed that.
I am not educated in such matters, but I've been led to believe the whole enough after X instead of before thing is common in "literary"/old english, which seemed fitting considering the relevant item. I'll change it if it's just wrong or falls flat though.
I'll clarify the other two points about the armor, and yes. Nerve and Mind are different things in the game.
I am seriously glad I decided to be cheeky and post this because goddamn that's some big stuff I overlooked.
Reposting as it was posted towards the end of last thread and I figure it'll otherwise be missed.
Update with expanded items section.
"Siiis!" I pound on the wooden barrier separating myself from our room. "Open the door! I'm sorry she didn't say yes!"
"Go away." a weak, but familiar voice, hisses from inside.
I don't know why I'm suddenly at fault for this! What is going on?
I am Itsukuma Masami. Today is looking to be another bad day.
Fortunately, it's not for the reasons that usually cause me to have a bad day. No kidnappings, no monster attacks, nothing like that.
This time, it's for more nefarious reason which is harder to deal with: Sister drama.
"Sis! She didn't really say 'no'! She just- Didn't say yes! That's all! Maybe you can think of a way for it to work!"
"Go. away."
This is one of the hardest battles I've fought. I can't even get past a plain wooden door!
All of this started when my sister, Kaori, revealed that she was keeping a puppy on school grounds. She wants to keep it, and I really think she should, but then-
"I-if you come out, we'll go to that ice cream place you like!" I try to bargain with her.
Silence.
"N-No! Of course not!" She seems more lively, "Go away!"
Darn! That usually works!
Where was I? Oh yes, -but then, I had the idea of just going and asking Mom directly. With some arguing from Kaori, of course.
I should have just kept it a secret. Mom didn't exactly say yes, and that destroyed Kaori's confidence. She ran into our room and locked the door.
It's my room too; how dare she lock me out.
"Come on, Kaori! We can just ask her again!"
"It doesn't work that way, Masami. I'm gonna stop talking to you."
"Kaori!"
..
"KAORI!"

Samson, growing increasingly bold and warriorlike in his demeanor, prepares the island full of prisoners to set off further into the Southern Archipelago. With Oswald Dory as a third party in the region's trifles, irritable violent offenders making up the majority of this small army, and another problem beginning to rear its ugly head: there isn't a single user of the healing arts in his rank. His father still in his base mage class and growing increasingly wary of all this warfare, the gentleness in Samson's heart must fight a hard battle if he wishes to keep his men alive.
Dyrus, in his own narrative, continues practicing away at the axe with his grandfather, Darren, in one of the two most opposite-to-tropical biomes in Teege: the Desert Region (the other, of course, is the frigid Northern mountains of Tordo. Dyrus wonders briefly how Laurise is handling the transition between frigid and arid in such a short time). Hawk Outpost has been a nice little respite for him and the rest of his mother's allies, but it ends soon.
"That's enough for now," Darren says. "Rest well and be prepared for the morning."
"Will do, grandfather..." Dyrus says, heading into his current lodgings.
Returning to second-person perspective, you are now Dyrus, barging in on the room you and shy ol' Felix have been sharing. He sits at a table with your sister, Laurise, discussing what's known about imminent events.
"It's widely known now that Chief Paisley carries Iote's Shield," Felix was saying as you came in, "so-"
The sound of a door swinging open and shut again startles him out of his train of thought with a high-pitched yelp, leading you to ask, "am I interrupting something?"
"Just a tactical discussion," your sister answers with a straight face. "See, if Denim challenges a Vautou wielding Iote's Shield to a duel, he would surely lose."

I pull my blankets over my head, as the metal cocoon I use as a bed closes over me, dunking me down in a very comfy darkness, the kind I used to spend most of my time in when I wasn't well enough to go outside. it brings back memories, and lets me think a little easier, but that may be because all the hivers aren't barging into my head for once. Actually it feels kind of empty without them, I'd love to have their voices right now, but I doubt they could give me advice for what's currently going on.
Maybe that's why they're staying away from my mind for the moment. I remember that night perfectly, even though it's been a couple of days. Because it keeps on playing through my mind, on repeat. Minor's face, the look of shock in her eyes, the taste of her lips....oh so sweet and
NO, stop that now! I groan as my thoughts start to turn all muddled again.
She's my friend but...ahh, it's just so confusing, and it was my first kiss I just never thought it would be like this, or ever actually. It's just...I don't know, I can't even choose a word to describe it with, it's just AHHH. I whimper and roll around under my blankets.
Too many emotions that aren't supposed to mix, it's making me feel sick to my stomach, but I'm not sure if I'm actually feeling sick or if I'm just feeling nervous because I don't know how this will turn out.
I kissed a girl, and not just any girl, but one of my best friends, and it's driving me crazy!
I groan as I sit up, my cocoon splitting as I do so. I can't figure this out on my own, I just can't, I can't..I..I need advice, yeah that's it, if I can't figure this out on my own, I'll ask my friends.
I sigh, running my hand through my hair as I do so, avoiding my horns.
But I have a feeling I'm going to regret this

The day has finally come. With the remodel about to begin for the offices of Davison, Goldberg, and etc., your ex-wife and Janet Blanc Attorney at Law have finally discovered an opening in the defenses of the company, and you have the opportunity to enter and rescue your daughter, Vanessa.
The three of you, along with your advisors on hand, meet in the conference room dimension, and hash out the strategy. Your ex-wife, ever the sadist, wishes to simply wait until the magical wards on the office are lowered to allow the contractors entrance without painful death, and charge in full force. Janet, ever the goodie-two-shoes, asks that you take a more subtle approach, disguising as contractors yourselves, with a small team, and spiriting Vanessa away with minimal casualties. After all, contractors would surely be hurt in the crossfire, and they are by necessity lawful neutral.
Either route will put you against powerful fiends and demons alike. Not to mention the terrible and searing pain of corporate structure. Whatever option you take, you will be in great danger.

>Lawrence (as in "of Arabia") is a recently-Awakened Acanthus being courted by the Mysterium and Guardians of the Veil, consumed by an Obsession to find the lost city of Ubar. She's a History student at the local university.
>NEEDS A NAME is a Moros Guardian fascinated with the Mystery of reincarnation; he believes Ascension is the only way for the inherently Supernal human soul to escape the Exarchs' prison. He may or may not fall to unsavory practices exploring the nature of the soul.
>Apis is a young Mastigos currently trying to find a way to do two things with magic; get her in her proper body without fear of dispelling, and carve the right sympathetic name on her soul.
>Python, an Obrimos fairly new to the Mysterium and intensely curious about the visions and dreams she seems to be receiving from a higher power. I haven't decided if it's a lesser Exarch, something Abyssal, or The Gate itself.
Ugh, OP, you're reminding me how poorly I did making that text overlay.

I don't know if Osiris works as a transgender narrative. I DO however think that an Osirian with the "traditional" missing piece works great as a transgender character. I thought of a concept that was basically an ambiguously sexed person who was flat as a Barbie down there, so they sort of flip flop between the Team Mom and Team Dad archetype.
Basically an androgynous Osirian who can't decide if they're supposed to be June or Ward Cleaver.

“Denise.” Your personal assistant, Denise Spunkmeyer, has met you in one of the parking garages leading to the underground roads underneath LGA. (The transit and highway system here is very complicated, too complicated even for you to understand.) She smiles at you, tugging on her goggles a little.
Wait, goggles? “Hey, there, ma’am!”
You point to the goggles resting on her forehead. “What’s with those?”
“Oh, well, as your personal assistant, I’ve taken the initiative to providing you a safe and affordable alternative to the LGA tram system!”
“… but the tram’s are free.”
“Are they, are they really?” asks Denise mockingly.
