The general assumption is that even archaic currencies are made out of valuable metals or other substances. It's why you can pull out a chest of old coins and spend them- Not because they're recognized, but because in a pseudo-medieval world barter is legit, and gold is taken everywhere.

Find a collector that is interested. It can still be converted into usable currency but it will just take longer.

Is there any way to make one or two Betrayal at Calth boxes into an army that works for both 30k and 40k? Not a lot of 30k players at my local gameshop, so if I invest into this I also want it to be a kickass SM army. Because just about anything can be good in moderation/if used appropriately, and the worship of Chaos requires them to fully devote themselves to their God's aspect. They won't use things in moderation or only when it's appropriate, but will instead force them wherever they can, and confine all of their thoughts, dreams, actions, EVERYTHING to that one small grouping of emotions/desires.
That's why, even if you started out with good intentions, you'll not seem good after you properly convert.
