Looking down at the Twister mat, you think on who the other two players would be.
“Afraid you'll lose” Rin asks with a confident grin on her face.
“There are 9 of us and you normally play Twister with 4 players.” you state.
“So we need to decide who the other two will be for the first game.” Rin says, thinking over your words.
You are John Smith, only known male IS pilot, unwinding after your first mission. After stopping Silverio Gospel, you debriefed at the USN Enterprise and eventually returned to the Seaside Inn. Now that the after mission party has begun, the first game of the night is Twister. Before you, Cecilia looks with at the mat and you with eyes full of lust. Houki is curious but trying to hide it. Charlotte is calm as ever. Laura is quietly enjoying a bag of chips And Honne is waiting in anticipation at the events to come.
“I think the two of us with be the referees.” Yuzu says with Sakuya in agreement.
So those two are out of the running. You and Rin look at everyone else trying to decide who the other two will be.
Houki clears her throat with a cough before saying, “I wouldn't mind trying this game.”
“It is only natural that I would be chosen to play in the first game.” Cecilia states proudly.
“Twister sounds fun but I think I'm still tired from our mission.” Charlotte says with a touch of tiredness in her voice.
“I don't see the point of this.” Laura states flatly before munching on a chip.
Charlotte leans over to Laura and whispers something into her ear. In the next instant Laura immediately stands up.

“John, husband, you will be playing with me.” Laura asserts after Charlotte words.
“Oh now this will be good.” Honne responds with a big smile.
So who will be the two to fill the remaining spots.

It's not really a final installment of the quest because the story I had was just too complex to exposit the end all at once, but I am creating this last thread as a way to explain any loose plot threads about the quest's overarching story on request.
I meant to post this up later today, but work is a bitch.
So feel free to ask any questions about the overall storyline of the quest, questions you wanted resolved and answered, the fates of different characters and the history of ones who's backstory you wanted to know about.

It'll last forever now!
Let's talk timey-wimey stuff /tg/
I'm mainly focused on travel to the past, but future stuff's fine too.
Ever ran or played in a game that used time travel as a mechanic or a plot device?
How did it apply to Pic related?
Given the unpredictability of PCs, how much of a headache can giving them such unmitigated control of a setting end up being? How could you include this without railroading the shit out of everyone or time paradoxing the plot out of existence?
Basically how does one into time travel in a game without it devolving into a logistical nightmare?
>>43526492
I've never implemented it in a game.
I had plans to once, but the game fell apart before the pcs reached the time travel part.
I consider myself, however, an armchair expert on time travel theory in fiction.
I took part in a thread we had a while ago that came to the consensus that the amount of control and access your pcs have to time travel was directly proportional to how completely screwed the game gets.
Limited time travel is good.
Send them forward or back and then they have to quest to travel again: Samurai Jack or TMNT3.
Very limited time length travel: Galaxy Quest or Seven Days.
Or the power source is rare, restricted, or limited: Prince of Persia
Ritual based time travel in a specific time and place only: Back to the Future I.
In short, limited time travel can be added to a game easily and add plot and fun but giving your pcs a fully functional time machine can kill your game worse than a Deck of Many Things.
>>43527106
Thanks for the solid reply.
In my particular scenario I'm hoping for a fixed-timeline situation in which at a fiven point in the future of the campaign, time travel is used in order to set up the chain of events that leads the party together in the first place. I plan this all out while being fully aware that there is a very slim chance of the PCs actually behaving in a proper manner to 'close the loop'. I've implied through the narrative that they're dealing with time-travel fuckery and so it won't be too left field when the event happens, if it even does. With that in mind what would be an interesting consequence of the paradox that would ensue? How could the timeline try to 'right' itself in an interesting way, withiut resorting to branching timelines in which X did or did not occur?
>>43528349
I have some tips and ideas but I have to go to work in 30 mins so I'll ask questions first:
>time travel is used in order to set up the chain of events
Is this a plan by a character in the game or just a sequence of events that lead to the time travel Event that triggers the chain of events leading to the party forming?
Are you planning on the Event being a simple trigger (Dr. McCoy saves a kind girl, therefore the Nazis win) or a planned scheme to orchestrate the party forming?
Are you planning on undoing the forming of the party or a different paradox?
How are you expecting the timeline to change?

Haruna's dark, trusting eyes study you intently as you stare into space past her head, turning it over and over in your head.
The more you think about it, the more inevitable it seems.
Initiative has always been a cornerstone of military strategy since the first Neanderthal hit another with a rock. The instigator of conflict chooses the location and the circumstances; they are free to arrange advantageous situations and when they wish to do battle, as Sun Tzu said, they summon the enemy to them. The defender is always reactionary, forced to do battle on the enemy's terms at a time of the enemy's choosing - and while a skilled fighter is always looking for an opportunity for a riposte, the side reacting is usually the side that loses.
And for the last sixteen months, all anyone, anywhere has been able to do is respond to abyssal attacks. Your enemy has no bases, no logistics chain, no weaknesses - they seem to simply appear wherever the hell they want, when they want - a crushing advantage. And after sixteen months of chasing them around, sixteen months of constant vigilance, sixteen months of stretching their forces thin trying to protect everyone, everywhere, the shipgirls are finally succumbing to the stress and strain. And not two days ago the enemy revealed their ability to set foot on dry land, and to mass forces into true fleets.
But.
FIRST POST
>>43526472
in after navy
There fleet had support vessels present - Harder's debriefing report established that conclusively. And those SIGINT specialists have finally, finally isolated a reliable method of detecting abyssals.
You glance at Haruna for a second - scared, uncertain and tremulous - and feel your heart sink. One thing you've learned very well in your first week at Yokosuka is how the shipgirls are mysteries even to themselves - with the ocean swarming with enemies, they haven't had much time for self-reflection. You've heard more than once how Goto's been unable to support them on a personal level like he once did; and judging from what Haruna said about Kongou's... affections, they sorely miss it.
You sigh and rub your head - they never covered *this* at Annapolis.
[ ] There's only one of you and a lot of scared shipgirls - you can't possibly help them all. And they're not just girls - they're also warships to the core. If you want to put the brakes on the deteriorating morale, you need to stop chasing the abyssals all over the ocean and take the initiative back - you need to go on the offensive.
[ ] For all intents and purposes Goto outranks the *hell* out of you, which is why most of the serious paperwork and big decisions are still landing on his desk - or Admiral Thomas's. You're a one-star Rear Admiral in command of a single division, and a lesser workload to match - getting out there and mingling with the troops is something you can actually do. They don't all need personal attention - just the ones who haven't found friends among their peers or outside interests. Ones that have fallen through the cracks, like Shigure. If you don't reach out, who will?
Post Stats + 1st turn, we're going off the last MUPDATE.

Favour: 0 - Hard

Technologies - Mineral and Metal Summoning.
Artifacts - [9] Rings of Power
The Rings were the greatest creation of our people since the empire of old. This proud endeavor have both lighted a fire inside our minds as it has made our denizens lethargic, desperate to gaze upon them and study their nature.
1. Daemons are fickle creatures, and vengeful ones are a tricky sort. We shall first bargain for it. What does it wish for? More slaves? Magic?
Perhaps it could be convinced to an alliance, or at least to an amicable (or the closest it can get) in exchange for that which it seeks.
2. The Rings are beautiful and alluring, and need to be protected, kept away from greedy hands.
A defensive tower is to be raised, out of metal and magic, so the rings can be placed inside. 1 Dark Energy used.
3. Our people demands more houses, more laboratories. We now are pressed to expand around our Ziggurat, push away the wilderness and raise more outposts.
Expansion shall start on the three areas around the Ziggurat that we still don't hold domain over.
Has anyone had the experience where you have a new player who starts to throw up all kinds of red flags, but who turns out to actually be a perfectly normal player?
>>43526278
What kind of red flags, anon?
>>43528274
Any that scream 'That guy' to you.
>>43526278
What is a "perfectly normal player" to you?
"Today you shall be tested. We are watching, Jadyk Lich-Lord. Impress us."
The words buzz around you like a swarm of insects. You stand in the airless silent void of the moon of Horizon's Drop but still the words of the Masked reach you, buzzing through your very bones.
Below you in the moonbase one of your enslaved pirates jumps as a console starts to beep in warning. One of the small satellites connected to the System Sensor network detects a twisting of gravity and space further out than the distant gas giant. Once the light reached the satellite your minion watches as light warps and twists in on itself before vomiting forth a gray slab of a cruiser sized ship surrounded by a small fleet of frigates and corvettes.
The Osjiics were right on time you see. The ships start to accelerate towards the system and the gas giant, due to arrive there in only a few hours.
You suspect the Daggers were not far behind and your suspicions were confirmed when only minutes later another alarm sounds. Another sensor satellite closer to the scorched planet turns to show a battlecruiser sized ship blink into being surrounded by a flock of ships of varying size and make. Their massive thrusters light up and the ship lurches into motion, slowly picking up speed as it aims itself towards the gas giant, seemingly completely passing your planet.
You are tempted to sit back and let them grind each other into space dust but the words of the mysterious Masked entity spurns you on. Turning your attention to your fledgling fleet that bristles with anticipation, the living's emotions a range of fear and apprehension.
This conflict was sure to be difficult but you were never one to turn away from a challenge.
