I saw a sniper show they explained some calculus for rangefinding.
you take an object you know the size of downrange. A car or a doorway, you use the dots on the scope to measure the angle and use that side and the angle the get the range. DESU im a little rusty on Sin, Cos, tan in relation to a triangle. Its really similar to a Side-angle-Side things from high school.

your point of observation, top (or left) of a target (or reference object), and bottom (or right) of target create a triangle
If your target or reference object is of a known size, you can then measure the angle with subtensions in your optic

Cosine is adjacent over hypotenuse.
Tan is opposite over adjacent.
Not too hard to memorize.

Dumb question for North Dakota residents. My girlfriend's 6 year old boy is interested in shooting and we've signed him up for an Intro to BB gun class at a local range. After the class is over, I'm planning on getting him a bb gun.
My problem is I live in a city (West Fargo) and don't have any land to shoot on.
Is it legal to go shooting bb guns on state land?

Depends on if they're put up by the state or by the property owner.
If its a property owner it has no official power, they can ask you to leave their property if they spot you carrying; and if you refuse they can have you arrested, but that's it.
On the other hand if the government put them up and you cruise into a school zone, court house etc, and get caught with a gun you're probably going to get fucked.

I bought mag pouches med pouches, and all sorts of shit.
I have a BDS Tactical Aid Bag and the Simple Stacker kit on the way. The kit I got now (Not FLC) has a velcro peel away in the center which sucks buttoning back up and the mag retention sucks. M9 Aid Bags are lackluster.
Army gear sucks. I only use it during trauma lanes because I don't want my coyote stuff getting drenched in fake blood.
The worst part about field exercises with cell phone reception is your dumb ass good idea gear list becomes reality and you end up spending $$$ on more.

Question /k/ want to buy an 80% lower and build my own AR but I live in Califagnia and there are all these new laws passing (I know only the outline and not specifics) that will further fuck AR owners. Being that I want this weapon for fun and home defense would it be smarter to just buy a Mini14 or something similar so I won't get in trouble if I actually have to use it an intruder? Then assuming I get it registered as a assault weapon do I have to pay taxes on it? Do I have to pay the fees I avoided by building it myself?
