I have a weekend mission for you /ck/ - jerusalem artichokes.

Go out and find some, and cook them however you like. I suggest roasting them along with a nice joint of meat for Sunday dinner, but simply boiling them works too. Just treat them like waxy potatoes. They're in season now, and they have a delicious, slightly sweet and nutty taste.

Here's a simple recipe:
Scrub and cut in half.
Boil for ten minutes.
Toss in oil and salt and roast for 35 minutes at 200C / 400F / Gas 6.
>>
Just what I've always wanted: to pay $1 for a tuber the size of a large chestnut.
They're sold around here in packs of five (count'em: five) sunchokes for $5. The total weight is about a half pound. $10/lb for a subpar starch is fwarckin' stoopid, famfam.

Tacos are now sandwiches because Captcha.

You can make soup and even chips with them. Just slice thinly and shallow fry in 180C / 350F oil.

But really, the easiest thing is to just throw them in the oven.

In our post-ironic society people pretend to love McDonalds fries. I don't understand it either.

If you think it's a type of cheese then fucking kill yourself. If your friend think it's a type of cheese then kill him and then kill yourself.
>>
Cheese is one of the ingredients, it's not a type of cheese.
It's not really a cake either, it's a pie.

>What can I make poutine with when i cant get curded cheese?
nothing. it's like making a ham sandwich without ham
>>
Cottage cheese
>>
>curded cheese

Well there's no such thing as curded cheese so that might be part of the problem.
Curd is made from milk, and then processed into cheese. It's the middle step between milk and cheese.

You could try making your own curd by adding rennet or some other acid to milk, but it's a messy thing and you probably won't get it quite right.

At what point did he stop visiting actual diners, drive-ins and dives and start exclusively showing high end hipster bistros and food trucks?

Did anyone watch that episode where he went to some taco place run by an Asian American dude and he was so unenthusiastic the whole time. He barely smiled, he made no classic Guy comments, and he just said "hmm that's a good burrito" nothing more? It was weird, like a Bizarro Fieri.

>At what point did he stop visiting actual diners, drive-ins and dives and start exclusively showing high end hipster bistros and food trucks?

Anon... those ARE Diners, Drive-ins and Dives.
Some time around 2002-04 the first dive bar was gentrified by hipsters in Lansing, Mi. looking for a place that was "real". This process became memetic when coupled with rampant social media use and began to spread. Next hit was Ann Arbor, Mi. to the east and Grand Rapids to the west. The process began to slow in late 2003 when Flint and Saginaw to the north and Detroit to the east proved to be a little too "real" and exploded in 2004 when the original Lansing hipsters graduated MSU with Lib.Arts degrees and moved en masse to Williamsburg, Bkln. NY.

So you see, Anon. These are the D, D, & D of 2015. The Greasy Spoons of yesterday are the cilantro and kale dispensaries of today. There is no more meatloaf and mashed potato with gravy now, only 'my interpretation of the traditional meatloaf with a modern twist'.

>What’s puzzling to some is that rotisserie chickens cost less than uncooked chicken, and that Costco has consistently decided against raising prices on the item even though it easily could.

>“I can only tell you what history has shown us: When others were raising their chicken prices from $4.99 to $5.99, we were willing to eat, if you will, $30 to $40 million a year in gross margin by keeping it at $4.99,” Galanti said, as reported in the Seattle Times. “That’s what we do for a living.”

>In a nutshell, it’s Costco’s business philosophy that holds prices in check. The warehouse member club giant is stubbornly consistent about the $4.99 price of rotisserie chickens, just as it’s stubborn about its jumbo hot dog and drink deal—which has remained set at $1.50 since the mid-1980s.

>Costco reportedly sells more than four times the number of hot dogs sold at all Major League Baseball stadiums combined each year. According to a 2012 documentary on Costco, the chain sells in excess of 300 million hot dogs, pizza slices, and other ready-to-eat items annually.

I eat oatmeal a few times a week. Haven't eaten cold cereal in a while but I did like adding raisins to a bran flake cereal that didn't have added sugar. I would just eat raisin bran, but I don't really like a super sweet breakfast.

Have you ever refused to eat something because you somehow felt sorry for it, despite it NOT being of animal origin?

It happened to me a few times when I was 5 or 6, there were some pastries that looked so beautiful I couldn't bring myself to eat them.
