Hey guys, so I'm looking to buy a rice cooker. I'm not really up to date on what brands are good and what's crap, but after poking around a bit I've seen Zojirushi being brought up a bit. They seem top of the line though, and I'm not sure if I'm ready to drop $150+ on a rice cooker. Are there any other brands/models you guys would recommend? I had something along the lines of a $60-80 stainless steel cooker in mind.
How often would you use it? Do you want to use it for brown rice too?
Rice is one of the easiest things to make so I don't think it's worth getting an expensive piece of equipment that will take up a bunch of counter space unless you use it almost every day and alternate between several different grains.

>How often would you use it?
Probably several times a week. I'm pretty big on rice.
>Do you want to use it for brown rice too?
I primarily eat brown rice at home. I don't really alternate between several different grains. I see what you're saying though, and really the only reason I'm considering these is because brown rice can be kind of a pain to make just by boiling it in a pot and I don't want to have...

>rice is one of the easiest things to make
It's actually not, and many people can't make rice well.
Does anyone have a good recipe for Japanese style curry? I've made instant curry from those big rectangles before but they don't have the same kind of taste as the curry I've had in Japanese restaurants. They were always really spicy and had a lighter color compared to the kind I had in restaurants.
I live in a rural ass area though so I don't really have any kind of asian stores.
>I've had in Japanese restaurants
Are we talking kokoichi or something? Because the major chains tend to have rather different style than home made Japanese curry.
>>7289303
It wasn't in the same style as in the OP. It was just the sauce over tonkatsu and rice.
I don't know if it was a chain restaurant. I was in Europe when I had it.
>>7289311
That might just be tonkatsu sauce which isn't the same
So, there's a new drink pwder out there called soylent that claims it is capable of replacing at least a couple meals a day. It's incredibly sustainable, apparently very healthy, and its all in one nature really appeals to me. It's fully vegan and has tons of nutrients as well. The problem is, I can't find any neutral press on it. Every article is either written by a soccermom who's pissed that anyone would want some "lab made frankenfood that's not on my paleo diet" or a paid shill for soylent. There's no real middle ground. So,...

Would you eat Keemi's steak? Would you make a real steak for her?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NItSZbuj4og

Interesting video.
It's not like Joey's channel which is irrelevant to /ck/.
>>7288852
I watched keemi for a long time now since I saw it posted here and this is the first vid in which she talks so openly about her relationships.
When I was making the .webm I didn't yet watch that part but dear lord she's a little filthy slut.
Why do Americans make one giant vat of coffee in the morning and keep topping their mug up instead of just having their morning cuppa like a regular person?
>>7288770
Because we like to do it that way. Its our custom.
You should try having breakfast at a French person's house.

Inferior brains destroyed by continuous consumption of copious fast food, obviously.
List your favorite cheeses
1. English Cheddar, aged at least 3 years
2. Stilton
3. Gouda (Old Amsterdam)
4. Parmesan
5. Camembert
Stilton
I usually like any blue cheese. My go to cheese used to be Gorgonzola but compared to Stilton I thought it was too watery.

Forgot pic
Gouda (Old Amsterdam)
The only cheese where I have an actual favorite brand. Found it when I was living in Hamburg.
okay, guys, we've had our fun, it's time to get serious now.

Want to try sardines. I don't think I've ever had them before and I'm not a huge fan of fish (apart from tuna), but I like anchovies and it seems like sardines are in the same ballpark, in addition to being healthy and cheap.
Any thoughts? I'm thinking about just starting with canned sardines on some melba toasts. I guess I just eat the contents of the can, I don't need to skin/debone anything? Total sardine virgin here.
I like adding sardines to grilled cheese sandwiches, burgers and pizza! You can add sardines to all your favorite food.

So just open the can, take out the sardines, and throw them into the food? No preparation necessary? You eat the bones? The fins? They don't have heads, right?
What's wrong with plain old vanilla?
Too sweet. I prefer unflavored.
Or would if it existed.
>>7287913
Vanilla soft serve is great
Blends well also with most other ice creams
it's also how i like my sex
>>7287923
Anon I'm baffled by this
i need more of an explanation
Dairy - bad for my skin for some reason
Olives - don't taste good
>The more I contemplated food phobias, the more I became convinced that people who habitually avoid certifiably delicious foods are at least as troubled as people who avoid sex, or take no pleasure from it, except that the latter will probably seek psychiatric help, while food phobics rationalize their problem in the name of genetic inheritance, allergy, vegetarianism, matters of taste, nutrition, food safety, obesity, or a sensitive nature.

It tastes like bug spray or some sort of chemical. I like lots of cheese, but blue cheese and few others have this taste and I can't eat it all, tastes like poison

What the best frozen pizza?

I like to just get a plain old Red Baron with pepperoni and throw some onions and peppers and shit on it during the last few minutes in the oven.
gas vs electric ovens? What does /ck/ prefer?
I thought electric stoves were just a meme.
I heard gas gives better flavor to food??
I have an electric and I prefer gas.
I work at Publix as a cake decorator. (Though I know a bit about the baking side as well.)

WHY ARE YOUR CAKES BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE
How should I do mac and cheese? I haven't done any in years and I feel like I want to it some but isn't it literally just pasta and cheese? Is there a way to make it a little bit healthier without ruining the comfort food factor?
It's okay to splurge sometimes. If you want mac, make it right.
>>7286344
>literally just pasta and cheese?
IT is if you pick a cheese that melts well. If not, you make a bechamel before adding the cheese.
>>little bit healthier
Define that, as everyone on this board seems to have a different opinion as to what defines "healthy".
i mean if you make it with a bechamel you are actually diluting the salt and fat, so yes you are making it a bit 'healthier' i guess
i just like to use lots of cheese and some evaporated milk and starchy pasta water
So, do people unironically eat at buffets?
I mean, for what purpose, it's literally being reduced to the level of a pig snorting up slop, especially considering most of the people who go to them are 300 pounds or more.
Also, requesting stories of horrible experiences at those shitholes.
there are good ones like http://www.minado.com/
everything is fresh and only on the line for a short time because they rotate out the old stuff instead of just mixing new stuff into it
I had a gun pulled on me once though at a shitty one in a black neighborhood

i'm 6'2", regularly go to the gym, and can eat quite a bit. i go to an indian buffet where everything is freshly made from scratch, with a variety of 20 or more different dishes to choose from. i've never seen anybody who was 300 pounds or more at this buffet. it's mostly white people interested in indian food, or indian families coming in. the main server is incredibly nice, always smiling and making the kids laugh. they're never screaming or crying.

Went to a Golden Corral once. The fucking steak cut was actually raw (I like rare steak before anyone starts), the whole place smelled like the bathroom, and the food was very stale (as if it has been sitting out for hours).
But I like Vegas style buffets very occasionally.
