honestly it felt like filler to justify FF10 long development time after ff8
FFIX was just a reimagining of the SNES games. It pretty much recycled the basic outline of IV, only with Edge as the MC instead of Cecil.
It's still more memorable than any of the post-PSX FFs though.
It's mostly just shameless nostalgia pandering.
It's not bad by any means, and it's a lot better than 8, but it's not as good as 4, 5, 6 or 7.
People who say it's the best FF are either youngsters whose first FF was 9 and are nostalgiafagging hard or hipster idiots who are too contrarian to admit that 7 is one of the greatest games of all time.
