IMO the only thing that makes or breaks it for me is the story. The gameplay is probably going to be excellent if it copies Chrono Trigger.

Caught a wild Tentacruel today, but it's really weak. Also hatched a Ponyta and Exeggcute, both of which are rare in my area.

Of course, there's the thing (which I think a most people know about) where you hoard candy for pokemon that are cheap to evolve (12 candy), then catch a bunch of them, pop a lucky egg, and evolve them all for 1000 exp each while your egg is up. Caterpie, Weedle, and Pidgey all evolve for 12 candy.
When you're fighting a high level gym, you can kill the weaker bottom bitch pokemon and run in order to chip away at its prestige and avoid going 8 on 6.
Common sense, but cycle short distance eggs in your infinity incubator and use your limited incubators (if you have them) for high distance eggs (if you have them).

Dad used to play Diablo 2 and AoE2 when I was a toddler. I used to like watching him play; maybe that's why I like Let's Plays so much.
