so i just re-watched the prequels and i have to say these actually get a lot of undeserved hate. you can tell there was love and craft put into these worlds. varied creatures, some of the most alien and beautiful worldbuilding i've ever seen. yeah the script is bad but holy shit these settings and designs are beautiful. these are a work of a man who cares deeply for star wars.

That bullshit ruined the movie for me, as if the "witty" one liners and quips and overreacted comic relief bits weren't enough. Rey shouldn't have been able to use the force like that, it makes no sense in the context that was established in the first 6 movies. Even in most fucking superhero movies (which TFA felt like) the superhero doesn't understand how to use their power and sucks at it, but Rey is effective at it immediately...
Yup and the she could out-pilot and out-shoot trained first order troopers despite never shooting or piloting before. And people wonder why others call her a Mary sue.

They should have made the First Order a feudal japanese faction.
They're like imperial fanatics that swear allegiance to the Shogun (Hux) and are profoundly religious (in the dark side) and follow a gruesome code of honor.
They should have made the "resistance" an ecoterrorist-like group like in 12 monkeys, separate and at odds with the Republic.
They should have made a faction based on order and authority based on royalgy (like the Fel empire) and a militaristic faction that is composed of down to earth imperial remmnants that are at odds with the First Order and in favor of the royalty, with Conan Antonio Motti at the head.
The new canon is simplified as hell, that was to be expected given how much simplified the films themselves have always been.
I was just amazed how much more simple Disney made it. To the point where it's confusing and nothing makes sense.

hell no. Harry Potter was easily one of the dullest franchise in the history of movie franchises. Each episode following the boy wizard and his pals from Hogwarts Academy as they fight assorted villains has been indistinguishable from the others. Aside from the gloomy imagery, the seriesüf only consistency has been its lack of excitement and ineffective use of special effects, all to make magic unmagical, to make action seem inert.
Perhaps the die was cast when Rowling vetoed the idea of Spielberg directing the series; she made sure the series would never be mistaken for a work of art that meant anything to anybody?just ridiculously profitable cross-promotion for her books. The Harry Potter series might be anti-Christian (or not), but itüfs certainly the anti-James Bond series in its refusal of wonder, beauty and excitement. No one wants to face that fact. Now, thankfully, they no longer have to.

The writing is dreadful; the book was terrible. As I read, I noticed that every time a character went for a walk, the author wrote instead that the character "stretched his legs."
I began marking on the back of an envelope every time that phrase was repeated. I stopped only after I had marked the envelope several dozen times. I was incredulous. Rowling's mind is so governed by cliches and dead metaphors that she has no other style of writing. Later I read a lavish, loving review of Harry Potter by the same Stephen King. He wrote something to the effect of, "If these kids are reading Harry Potter at 11 or 12, then when they get older they will go on to read Stephen King." And he was quite right. He was not being ironic. When you read "Harry Potter" you are, in fact, trained to read Stephen King
