Is it possible for a group to be friends on very good terms with each other, yet incompatible as a gaming group?

I think I am a reasonably experienced GM. Due to a schedule involving multiple six-hour sessions per week, I have logged about ~180 sessions (according to my logs) since December 2014.

During those sessions, one player ("Player X") has been in all but about half a dozen of them. Furthermore, there is another friend I have been GMing for regularly ("Player Y").

Players X and Y were the only two players in two of my recent campaigns. One ran for 24 sessions before we agreed that nobody was enjoying themselves, and another ran for 17 sessions before my players told me that they were not having fun and that I should end the game.

Those two campaigns were fraught with, as my players said, poorly handled GMing. After every session, I would ask how I handled that session, and there was:
- A ~67% chance that one or both would complain about my GMing in a way that implied they disliked the session. I would engage in a several-hour-long (not an exaggeration) argument to clarify what they wanted, and then capitulate to their requests.
- A ~33% chance that everything went relatively fine.

No matter how much I tried to improve, there was always a ~67% chance that I would greatly fumble. I would always try to cater to their requests, but doing so was often met with "You catered to our request, but not in the way we had in mind." A few sessions down the line, I would then receive a request that was mutually exclusive with a previous one.

This makes me consider that my two players do not know what they want and are inept at expressing their preferences. It also makes me think that I am incapable of discerning what my players truly want, seeing how I have attempted to cater to them across many sessions, yet fail to please.

My players now refuse to explain what I am doing wrong with my GMing, because apparently, I am too dense. What can I do to rectify all of this?

It can't. Be can be similar and different on varying levels and attempting to change them into something they aren't will merely make them hate you and what you're aiming them towards.
Sadly you and your players are somewhat inept in social skills and can't express yourselves or understand others fully and this cannot be remedied its merely who you are.

Best bet is go on the arduous journey of finding one of those special GM's everybody loves and latch onto him like a leech together as a 3 man player group. Be ready however, as i mentioned earlier, you all aren't social butterflies which also means finding a GM that will put up with your shit.

This thread is to expand on the loyalist successors of the Alpha legion, convinced they're Imperial Fists, with tactics involving stealth-defense and trap setting

>Founded in the 34th millennium, our chapter were created to crusade against the Imperiums enemies(allegedly), however it is unknown to the Imperium and indeed the chapter itself as to who our progenitor is, though they vehemently believe they are succesors of the Imperial fists. In truth, they were created with the Gene seed of the Alpha Legion who paraded themselves as elements of the Imperial fists third company whilst forming the chapter, a belief the chapter holds dear aand true from the hypno therapy and harsh indoctrination they use in recruitment. For unknown reasons, the Alpha legion made them in the guise of the fists.

>They believe in purity above all, and yet their own gene seed is flawed hyper-stimulating the Omophagea of many brothers and leading to the creation of their strnge and esoteric and mysterious Chapter culture. The opposing IS continues to fly straight at you as you continue to evade the closing in laser beams. You take out Gram and return fire only to see 4 laser beams intercept and deflect all of the projectiles. She continues undisturbed by your attack to fly straight at you. Close enough to see her without relying on your sensors, your next shot connects as the active protection lasers didn't have enough time to deflect your projectiles. But that came at a price, as your shields spark against her rifle's laser beam. You turn your body slightly to let the rest of the beam pass by you.

“Reinforce, that was close.” you mentally comment.

“The enemy IS is using as advanced ECM suite making targeting and information gathering difficult.” Reinforce telepathically replies.

You are John Smith, only know male IS pilot, currently fighting against an unknown IS. You were about to fly your Maeve around the Fairy Arms and Manufacturing testing airspace before you were fired upon. Forced to defend yourself, you return fire with limited success. This fight is going to be a lot different that what you are use to.

The opposing IS mirrors your action as you blast past each other. In the instant she is directly in front of you, you look your enemy in the eyes. A woman about Iris or Natasha's age with sandy brown hair with a rather fit body. Her IS reminds you of something like the Morgan you once could have chosen at the start of your school year but with quite a few differences. You'll have to figure out those differences later as you break left to get around to re-target her in a high-g turn.

Part way through your turn, you have Reinforce control the Edge missile launcher to fire an off-bore shot. The missile is intercepted with all 4 active protection lasers in the middle of the figure 8 pattern the two of you trace in the sky.

This has lead to a severe division between the upper hive nobility, the mid hive working class, and the low hive gangers and scum, and much worse.

This is an issue I run into, and I still don't quite understand it.

It's part of the scoring system, where in addition to your pair and four sets, you also need one of a number of special conditions which make it a valid hand. All concealed is one, a set of dragons is another, but beyond that I forget.

As an aside, does /tg/ know of any good english language Mahjong platforms online? The only ones I've been able to find are either designed for gambling, overly expensive or have very limited options.

I'm really looking for something I and a group of friends can use to learn the game. I know ten second turn timers is considered long in the Mahjong community, but given I'm playing with friends and beginners I'd love a client where we can turn off the timers and take our time to figure things out.

Your day begins like any other – waking up in the bathtub of some family home – the family hanging from the ceiling. In the usual manner, you wake up quick as a flash, then quickly wake down a bit with a few Irish coffees.
On your way to work, you bump into somebody. An unremarkable fellow who greets you in the usual manner. “Hi. Satisfied at your nobility, you head off, the birds perched above on the power line blasting industrial metal.
Just outside your office, a mother pushing two children turns around to face you. “You really think Lilly could ever love a monster like you? She doesn’t love you at all. She’s just terrified of losing things.” You don’t actually see her lips move, but you hear her words. And they hurt your feelings. So you beat her to death with a nearby fire extinguisher and then set her children on fire.

Welcome to a thread taking place in a before now vaguely-detailed era of the first two installments’ past!

Those who are familiar with our first two quests might expect for this thread to start with the same question that created the first choice of the thread: the player character’s gender. And rest assured, such a choice will still be able to be made! Perhaps several times, if our drift is caught.

I figured that it would be interesting to, instead of basing the class and backstory of a single protagonist on pre-thread choices, provide three prologues, mini-chapters, explaining and influencing four viewpoint characters’ stories before the quest truly begins, closing the thread on a vote for who becomes the overall main character (though this does not completely remove the possibility of revisiting the others in due time, or even outright cycling through all three).

So, my friends, with whose backstory would you like to start?

>A. The child of a rebelling former noble, destined to become a prince/ss in their own right, should history indicate anything. They will have duties of their own to help bring about the course of history.

It is now summer of your 3rd year: a time of peace, but also stress for your people as undead activity subsides temporarily for a few months and your Homonculi can safely venture through out the tower in longer intervals as the sun hangs high. But it is also a time of heavy, hot, bothersome work.

Previously: The Imp was.. "upgraded" and is now a "devil", we experimented with plants and invented a backwards compatible alchemical interface known as the "mandrake", we came up with our very first holiday, the laborers had a field day constructing an aquarium in our lab and honey producing bee boxes on the roof (much to the delight of all) and we've finally made contact with the sapient undead couple living on floor 3.

Spring has matured and blushed into Summer; this has a few implications:
-It's hot, dry and humid and all three of these things in horrible, uncomfortable excess in any level with outdoor access.
-The stair case has completely dried out and there is no danger of traversing them. The pond waters on FLOOR 1 are also pleasantly full of now adult pan-sized fish.
-Most forested areas (particularly B1) have become completely and absolutely overwhelmed with insects: the sound of Cicadas in B1 are particularly loud and droning.
-The sun has been hanging around longer and brighter and as a result local undead activity has decreased significantly. Even Elizabeth has been restricted to the confined of her level.

+Spiritual Development+ The Technician who planted trees.
-With the Season's changing The Technician has begun to take more of an invested interest in nature (much to the annoyance of their familiar) and has started going out longer and longer by themselves: catching insects, fishing (Elizabeth having gifted them a rod and tackle set), studying plants and has even started taking up the practice of wood carving- producing little carvings of animals or bugs they keep in their study.

It's been a few years, but your people can say of their own independent free-will that they've become happy: They work for the community, they serve and respect their communities leaders and elders, they provide for their own people, they care and love for one another and enjoy the comforts and companionship of their own kind.
