I'm going to be running a Silent Hill game with my group.

I have a good understanding of the setting and lore, and my players have no experience at all, so I have a lot of freedom and their lack of knowledge minimizes any chance of accidental meta.

I'm going to be using the Call of Cthulhu system, unless you guys can show me something that would be better.


Anybody have any experience with tabletop silent hill or something similar?

I ran a Silent Hill-esque campaign in Dark Heresy once. The main things I learned are to keep combat to a minimum and use the "air-sirens-turning-everything-to-hell" thing sparingly. Rely on atmosphere to maintain suspense as much as possible, and make sure to know the characters your players are playing so you can tailor the monsters to them.

Yeah, all you'd need to break gravestorm in half is to have some way to get lots of permanents into graveyards - hello, sacrifice effects and tokens - and a halfway decent gravestorm card.

Or hell, what about a boardclear? If there's a sufficiently cheap gravestorm card out there that's strong enough - a gravestorm grapeshot, so to speak - that could turn out to be a massive force multiplier.

The only saving grace is that gravestorm probably wouldn't end up with the problem Storm had with repeated castings going exponential. Unless there was a gravestorm card that destroyed permanents, I guess.


Also Meld is kind of neat but at the same time I'm kind of disappointed that we didn't get those weird-ass triple-sided Duel Masters cards. They literally unfold! Twice!

Shinobi Quest #23

This quest takes place within the lands of the Five Great Shinobi Nations (aka Narutoverse) starting roughly around the beginning of the original series. The world of this quest remains similar to the original, with slight but notable differences in certain areas, based upon the passage of time from a single slightly altered event.

(It’s a goddamn Naruto Quest, you bastards. Have fun, participate, and write in when you feel inclined. Most of the outcomes of this quest will be determined by you, the players. Critiques and questions are always welcome, as my knowledge of the weeby shit is not all encompassing.)

Last thread, Tsuki Norihime greeted her returning sensei after his extended absence, and was informed of her new mission the following day to travel to the Land of Wind. After spending quality time with her Father, a useful tool- the [All-Terrain Shinobi Facemask]- was created. The next day, the reassembled team traveled south to the Land of Wind to begin their mission, meeting up with the client, Dr. Lemeza Kosugi. The five them then began the trek across the vast desert towards the ruins, eventually running until a group of Suna shinobi led by the daughter of the Kazekage, Temari. Eventually, they reached the camp outside the ruins….

The could covered sky cracks open with a thundering sonic boom. Piercing the clouds, dropping like a stone, is the vaguely mushroom shape of a civilian freighter falling from the sky trailed by the glowing mini star of its gravity drive. It hovers patiently over the spaceport, an expansive structure of docking bays and metal domes, and it slowly drifts its way to an open bay. The ship lowers itself stem first into the silo and its shield cap is captured delicately by a number of outstretched metal arms as loading cranes reach out and begin detaching the ship's cargo pods and plastic umbilicals quickly run their way to the ship's airlock doors as the passengers begin to make their way into the space port. Among them, the human clones of the hive shuffle quickly to the customs terminal, gathering the various carefully packaged and disassembled weapons and equipment stored in various musical instrument cases.

The charter for the small transport was rather in depth, offering the use of concealed compartments within the ship's sizable smuggling hold, as well as the use of a number of scan shielded cases and containers. A customs official takes the false ID cards from your clones and examines them briefly as he looks over the ship's manifest scrolling on a data pad in his other hand. He hands the cards back with a knowing look, and leans over to fumble with his shoelaces as your clones' cargo rolls past the security checkpoint. Your clones quickly gather them and walk briskly out the door and into the cold evening air of Path's spaceport. Shuttles and tram stations echo in the air with automated voices as they ferry travellers across the planet.

One unclear line in the 8th edition rulebook that doesn't definitively state anything that relies on knowledge of the 40k universe is hard to use to contradict years of established fluff.

Maybe they were leaving it open for debate and personal army fluffing by leaving it obscure.

But then again maybe a one of their writers that's too used to writing novels, rules, etc... for 40k accidentally slipped it in there.
Seeing as it's not mentioned again in the entire book and GW is not known for their editing when it comes to fluff quality control.

Hey.
I'm going to run a Cyberpunk 2.0.2.0 campaign (my fifth one with this game, but the first with so few house-rules) soon with at least two players, maybe three or four if the other players wake up. The campaign is called Night City Stories, and I'm planning on taking most inspiration from the various GTA games, Michael Mann and Guy Ritchie movies, plus the Cyber and the Punk, of course. Conspiracies, aliens, psychic powers, silver lady with rippers and chrome tits, et cetera.

But I need pictures. I noticed the board game Netrunner had a lot of great pics, but I don't know where to find them online, so I'd appreciate a source if you have one. Other than that, I'm looking mostly for characters that'll serve as NPCs or random encounters (I draw a pic at random and improvise the encounter on it). Please refrain from posting Shadowrun material (even though people with bodysculpted elf bodies exist, but because the SR brands are really easy to recognize and I want to run it like Night City). I'll post the other character sheet, then dump the art I already thought of saving.

For house-rules, because everyone house-rules CP2020, here's what I have :

>The Netrunning chapter I actually crossed out of the summary in my physical copy. Netrunning is handled by Interface, Programming and System Knowledge, but is completely freeform and essentially a matter of player decision (pick one option or push for both, take risks for better rewards) and basic character skill (roll against TN 20 to hack into the system. Ok you're in, there's the data node here, the security center there, where do you go, etc). This makes Hackers still cool, but not more complex than any other mechanic in the game, so everyone can still do things.

CharGen is done via Method II : roll 9d10, re-roll any 1 or 2 and assign wherever you want. It's not balanced. Fuck balance.

And that's it. The whole book other than that I use as written.

I always have a hard time coming up with any good motivations when making characters. Usually, my characters just end up kinda being there and going along with things, never having any strong agenda of their own. Best thing in my opinion, is to go through the last thread and answer the development questions in it, and then lurk here and get inspiration from new questions posted.

When rolling up your character, try to think 'why' you are making certain choices for them.

Why are they proficient in Skill X, why do they use X weapon, why are they in a party with X, Y, and Z?

It's not that, really. I mean, I can come up with all kinds of character tidbits, easy. I can give them personalities and all. But usually it's really hard for me to make a character who actually WANTS something in the long run. They just go along with others, being inconsequential.

Sometimes, I come up with strong, active characters. Characters who actually want something (something more than some simple goals) and work towards that, and those honestly feel the best to play for me. But it's just really hard to make all the things click in a way that actually gives the character a strong, sharp point. So to speak.

Thinking about it, I guess a lot of people struggle with this. Or just don't care enough. At least from what I've seen in my games. Maybe I game with the wrong crowd.

The fortnightly Storythread returns for another week of action packed adventure. Romance, intrigue, death, smut? - we have it all.

If you have /tg/ related stories to post, post them here, and hopefully some kind anon will give you feedback (or at least acknowledge that someone did actually read it, which let's face it is what writefags really want).

If you don't have a story ready then I and other anons will be posting pictures throughout the thread for you to test your writing skills on. This is, more or less, a world-building and character-building exercise: two vital skills for playing roleplaying games. If you don't have any pics to post, you could try posting an idea for a setting or a character, and maybe someone will be willing to write a story using it. It's also an exercise in writing though, where writefags can try out their material and gain inspiration, so if you just want to talk about world-building save it for the world-building threads.

Remember that writefags love to have feedback on their work. Writing takes a long time, especially stories that go over several posts, and it can be really depressing when no one even seems to read it (and the writer won't know you read it unless you leave a comment).

And since writing takes a long time remember to keep the thread bumped. Pics are good, feedback is better.

I think the original plan was to get upgraded first before getting into a fight, so I guess we can just spend the evening with Fox Fire.

I assume pastebin stats/upgrades for Fox Fire and Leseath are upcoming, yes?

Of the names for the robot Kato was one that I supported, but we'll see if anyone else has any other names in mind.
