“Knight-Lieutenant?”
You can see Ayuz’s face looming over you. You move to strike it but there are hands on your thighs and your arms and your feet pinning you to the ground, their skin rough, the ground rougher. This is not the first time it happens. You know what follows, and you cry out for Srahen, but your head can’t move either, and your mouth sprouts fingers from within, locking with fingers without.
“Lady Heldeqi?”
He planned this, he planned it all, you can see his wicked grin as he strokes Srahen’s wings, his officer’s sword glistening inside its scabbard. But you have other concerns, and your nightmare begins anew, your stomach bloating with corruption, eating your future as something invades you from the inside.
“Lady Larre?!”
You wake up shivering madly in the crepuscular dawn of the forest, a foul taste in your mouth and a blanket on your shoulders.
“Let me not have to correct you again, Squire-Sergent,” you snap, your tongue doughy from sleep.
“My L—Knight-Lieutenant, please accept my apologies. It won’t happen again.”
He does look contrite, even if his accent is too thick for you to read his tone. A good soldier, from his reaction to your unfair rebuke, and from his grade. Very good even. Odd for a commoner to become a Squire, but you guess hard assignments require hard men.
“No worries, then. Your apologies are duly accepted.”
“My thanks, Knight-Lieutenant. We let you sleep, since you’ve been obviously in some deep sh—Ah, trouble. Would it be too much to ask about them?”
>”Yes, it would.”
>Tell him an embellished version of the events.
>Change the subject, ask about his own mission’s outlines.

"Treachery and ill fate. I believe the barbarous treatment of my dragon speaks more on the cruelty of our adversaries than my words ever could".
Do you ever get the feeling the sometimes, the players miss the point of the campaign? Not that they're playing badly or being murderhobos, but that what the DM and the PCs have in mind really isn't in the spirit of what was intended. I'll start by saying that I'm usually a forever DM, and I've finally had the chance to sit down as a player after someone else took over. But I just can't help but be a little off-balance by the way things are going.
We're playing the Wrath of the Righteous Adventure Path, which I've read through, but which the DM has made a lot of changes to. I know, I know that I shouldn't have foreknowledge of the module, but I've actually run the AP two groups back, and I'm really just enjoying the ride. I'm still trying to frame my thoughts, but I guess I have to start from somewhere.
Okay, the first major change is that the very first module begins with the PCs waking up after a cave-in, with a trio of NPCs. The DM changed the NPCs significantly, especially the most notable one: There's this M-to-F transsexual (accomplished using a Belt of Gender Change) who - in the normal module - is in a relationship with a female half-orc Paladin. S/he's been replaced by a female Elven cleric with a broken leg, while the blind Wizard is the module is now a blinded would-be Crusader named Sir Edern. The last character (a cowardly merchant) still remained, but the party left him to die early on in the module.
Now, our party is as follows: Male Human Warpriest (me), Male Human Inquisitor, Female Elven Sorceress, Female Elven Ranger. I mention this because of the character dynamics that followed.
>>43589297
See, Irabeth, the Half-Orc paladin with the transgender wife, has been excised from the module, too. She's been replaced by Sir Edern's father, Lord Hulrun. Now, Sir Edern is a Lawful Good Templar who wants to be a Paladin. His father, a guy in his late 40s to early 50s, is a Chaotic Neutral Cavalier of the Order of the Cockatric, whose code is literally 'be a dick'. He is rough, merciless in combat, believes in 'kill 'em all and let God sort them out' and has a wandering eye. I bring this up because the female Sorceress initially started up a relationship with Sir Edern, and then started fucking his father behind his back.
I'll restate that she's fucking his dad while dating him, like something out of an NTR story.
Also, the group's Inquisitor has decided to start a pogrom (as you do) to hunt out suspected demon-worshippers and put them to the torch. He's not especially picky about this - thought he has snatched up a lot of cultists and suspected cultists - and has confiscated all their wealth in the name of the Church. Last of all, the Ranger?
Well, this is worth stating: The DM had a subplot where, in the middle of the night, a shadow-demon assassin snuck into our headquarters with mayhem on his mind. As a shadow demon, it vaguely resembles a serpent-bodied humanoid with collapsible arms, very skeletal, very bony. This is the closest image I could find, but I've spoilered it because it's only partially safe for work.
So the assassin snuck up on the Ranger first, but she woke up and armed herself before it could death attack her. Now, you'd expect her to sound the alarm...But instead, she talked to it.
And then she fucked it.
>>43589304
Yes, in a campaign that's all about being demon-slaying heroes, one of the party has a 'love interest' that is an unspeakably corrupt demon. She's taken it as her lover, and she regularly lets it slip away for the two of them to hook up as a kind of secret. The PC doesn't really have any intention of being corrupted, she's just enjoying the feeling of doing something illicit.
I don't know, /tg/. I like the game so far and all. But the campaign feels like it's going off-the-rails somewhat, and it's leaving sort of a bitter taste in my mouth. This doesn't feel very heroic, so to speak, you know? It's kind of tawdry and depressing, all things considered.
We're still progressing with the plot, but I don't feel that the other PCs are very heroic at all. My character's subplot is his romance with cover girl and redeemed succubus Arueshalae, but the others don't seem to be getting into the 'epic hero of light thing'.
Am I being too sensitive here? Is my foreknowledge of the early modules ruining things for me? Or am I right to say that the group shouldn't be behaving like this?
>>43589297
The point of this campaign, like any campaign, is for the people playing it to have fun. If they're having fun, they're not missing the point.
If you're not having fun, leave. Otherwise, lighten up and stop taking it so seriously. You can't force other people to play the game the way you want them to, you can only join in or go find a different game.
Would you ever get a /tg/ tatoo? Elf ears? Horns? Magnets under the skin?
Did you ever meet anyone with larp related body morphs?
>>43589168
Too short, I'd like to get the ears of anime elves. Is it possible to get them moded to be long and pointy?
You have sixty seconds to justify why a fantasy setting would contain magic, which doesn't exist in real life, without using any argument that boils down to "it's not real life". If you don't answer in sixty seconds I'll kill you through the internet.
Because I, as the author, fucking said so.
>>43589132
It's fun
Because magic has been a staple of fantasy since before written history. Don't fix what it isn't broken.

Is entropy lawful or chaotic?
It's neither. It has no moral precepts
Are you asking whether it's order or chaos made manifest?
If so the answer is lawful/order.
The fact that everything withers and dies is life's only absolute.

It is neither good nor evil, that is for certain. Those are ethical principles. Nothing in the natural world has ethical principles. The natural world has no principles as at all. Patterns, on the other hand, are everywhere in the natural world. And what are law and chaos but patterns?

How does the Awakened Blade prestige class actually work under the current Psionics Augmented: Soulknife rules? If Gifted Blade is free, do all levels of the Awakened Blade advance both mind blade and manifesting?
I had heard from Gareth earlier that a soulknife (war soul)/psychic warrior (pathwalker)/Awakened Blade advances only either their soulknife side or their psychic warrior side, never both. Is this true?
Why don't all RPGs where mind control exists have an Ego stat that functions as mental HP?
>successful mental attacks lower the target's Ego before effect is determined
>you can't make an enemy surrender unless their Ego is under your skill
>you can't make an enemy hurt someone they normally wouldn't unless their Ego is negative
>enemies magically converted to your side still recover Ego and have a chance to shake off the enchantment unless it is regularly renewed
Ending every fight in one turn with "go to the police and turn yourself in" doesn't sound fair or fun.

It has come to my attention that the Adeptus Administratium has "misplaced" the vast information and knowledge about this knight house. And with the old rememberances and sages long dead, we need to make this "interveiw" in order to archive this house once again.

/tg/, I come to you with a matter of obscure planar lore. VERY obscure planar lore. "More obscure than Temporal Prime, hassitor, and aphanacts" obscure.Afroakuma, stay out.
What are "probabilities," "probability lines," and the "7th dimension" under the context of the D&D cosmology?
These are mentioned in 1e's Unearthed Arcana druid:
www.angelfire.com/games/Oerth3/Druids/AppendixA.html
>At 23rd level: Enter any of the Inner Planes. Roam the Inner Plane probability lines (the 7th dimension). Enter the Plane of Concordant Opposition.
And are also alluded to by the AD&D 2e Complete Psionics Handbook's "Probability Travel" psychoportive science, which physically transports a psionicist to the Astral Plane:
www.supersutter.net/Alcirya/Tools/Psionics/Psychoportive/Sciences/Probability%20Travel.html
The only things I can bring up regarding them are that they were part of Gary Gygax's original cosmology work:
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=563
http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=16762
>This is part of Gary's emerging conception of the AD&D cosmos (the planar structure in the PH was not supposed to be exhaustive). Saga of Old City (and in a slightly different form, Mythus) lists the nine dimensions of the multiverse: length, breadth, height, astrality, ethereality, time, probability, extra-conceivability, and nonconceivability.
Does anyone know anything else about these mysterious "probabilities," "probability lines," and "7th dimension"?
>>43587985
>Temporal Prime
That's a thing?
Sweet.
>Does anyone know anything else about these mysterious "probabilities," "probability lines," and "7th dimension"?
I don't fucking know, something to do with dice rolls or something?
>>43588425
It most likely has nothing to do with dice rolls.
Further research shows me that in 1e, Probability Travel was originally used to allow a psionicist to travel directly to other worlds and planes, rather than just the Astral Plane. It is likely that "probabilities" and "probability lines" have something to do with planar travel. If astrality and ethereality are valid dimensions, then in some respect, "plane" is another valid dimension.
>>43588688
Man, lore back then was much better.
So what are some interesting Paladin concepts/character concepts that would be refreshing/non-standard?
When it comes to Paladins, I found some interesting concepts:
1. A Paladin of a dream goddess that guards people while they are sleeping, protects their dreams from nightmares, goes cheerleader mode so that people would fight off their nightmares, and tells people to follow their dreams.
2. A Bardic Paladin that does both things a Bard and a Paladin can.
3. A Paladin of a god of fear that is pretty much what if Batman was a Paladin that would summon scary shit to terrorize evil beings.
>>43587963
that's from diciples 2, isn't it?
>>43587977
Yup.
And back then the portraits were supposed to look more animesque.
Pity they changed it.
>>43587963
Heh. Did something about that third point.
The Paladins of Fear, known also to some as Dreadknights, are the servants of the god called Noc.
Noc is the god of fear, horrors, nightmares and terror. For some reason however he is different in that despite the elements that would qualify him to be a member of the evil gods such as Bane, he is also a god of justice and tenacity against the nightmares that haunt the mortal realms. Although his tenets are spreading fear, he also adds that only those who do evil are to experience these. The Dreadknights themselves do not succumb to fear. One wonders what their trainings include that they are the stone cold individuals they are.
Noc's Paladins differ from those of other gods in certain aspects. While Paladins are courageous, the Dreadknights literally fear no evil, for they are fear incarnate. No horror, either material or supernatural, cannot break them. Whereas even the most strong-willed adventurers break in fear, the Dreadknight casually walks onwards. While normal Paladins resolve certain situations with diplomacy, the Dreadknight will simply induce pure fear in the hearts of evil creatures. Even if those are demons or eldritch monstrosities, none is beyond Noc's grasp.
The creed of the Dreadknights is that only in through overcoming their fears can they see that for what they truly care. This implies that many of these individuals experienced personal tragedies that prompted them to don their obsidian black armors and regal blue capes and become the ones who strike fear into evil. Despite the aura they radiate, these warriors are as heroic as their counterparts serving other gods, and will stand guard against the evils in mortal hearts and the horrors that would blast a mortal's mind into oblivion and hurl him into the abyss of insanity.

Hello /jc/! How often do you "Play along" with a jump? Or do you prefer to be an OCP to everyone?
>>43587880
I play along with the setting. That is, I use the setting's powers as much as is possible until it's no longer convenient. I don't care for the plot or any characters in it, though. I'll break it apart if I feel the need.
I don't get what happened in the last thread.
How do you handle the party relationship on a first session? Do you let them meet up for the first time and handle first impressions etc? Or do they already (somewhat) know each other when you start out?
I usually tend to go with the second option as it tends to move things along a bit faster and I've had some awkward moments with some players reciting their life stories to people they've known for about ten minutes.
What's your approach? Any advice on character introduction or related stories?
Create characters together so that they all have a reason to be working together in the first place.
In general it gets templated as follows:
>Give me no less than two and no more than twelve important events in your life
>Give me one major positive relationship you have in-universe (old friends/the excellent chef/some contact you know the face and enjoy meeting)
>Give me one major negative relationship in-universe (people who want you dead, folks that stole from/have stolen from you etc)
>Give me one or more people in the party you know, tell me why
It avoids shit like stick in the mud Pallies in mostly morally ambiguous parties and edgelords in campaigns that have no use for them. No backstory/empty backstory = no play, and you'll probably not get invited again.
Party members will usually know base info >>43587763 OOC beforehand and learn expanded info IC as time goes on.
The option that worked out best for me was a little bit of both; the more mundane or easily connected characters are a preexisting adventuring party (or organisation/group) with the special snowflake/loner type character meeting them by circumstance at the start of the first session. Before things can get awkward, they are all immediately thrown into a conflict or battle of some sort, bonding them and giving them something to discuss. Maybe they are attacked by bandits or find the loner locked in combat with some monsters.
