You are Laura Kinney, mutant vagrant.

Your mission is simple – you are to infiltrate the dwelling of a local gangster known as Zhang Lei and extricate an artifact of great archaeological importance. Your secondary is to uncover any link that may exist between the New York Triads under Mr. Negative’s control and the superhuman calling himself Typhon.

Typhon. Grecian, divine, malignant. An archetypal dragon. Father of monsters. Ultimately slain by Zeus.

John sets you down in the shadow of a Manhattan tower block, invisible wings heaving one last time to cushion the landing. There is a sound like teeth cracking against gristle as the huge appendages fold inwards, disappearing under the flesh of his back.

“This is it.” He says, glancing up. “I think.”

Zhang Lei procures for Mr. Negative only the most esoteric and strange of antiques, whether from ancient Rome or the days of the Old West. He owns multiple safehouses, but his most prized artifacts are thought to be kept here, in a penthouse that occupies the top two floors of the towering building beside you. While known to NYPD, Zhang has never been officially implicated in any kind of criminal activity, making the building legally untouchable to law enforcement. The detective agency for which John works, however, has no such legal troubles.

John is tense. You can see the sinews working under his skin, stretched taut along his muscles. This is good. He sets down Layla, who appears to be feeling somewhat ill after her first flight.

Layla Miller makes you uncomfortable – you edge slightly away from the two of them while he makes sure she’s alright.

Within six minutes, Nico Minoru arrives, apologizing for her slight tardiness. You greet her quietly, and she tells you she likes your choker. You feel your cheeks redden very slightly.

Nico is one of John’s coworkers. She is quiet, like you, and does not pressure you to converse. You find this relaxing. There are a number of people you no longer feel excessively anxious in conversation with, but you still find the act exhausting at the best of times. People do not come naturally to you.

“Right then.” Says John, casting his eyes up the height of the building. You know this present look – he is going to defer to your judgement. You have mixed feelings about this. On the one hand, it is the correct action, and his confidence in you is pleasant – like a warm, soft glow at the base of your stomach. On the other, it draws attention to you. “Anyone have any ideas about how we should do this? Laura?”

You feel Layla’s eyes on you, and it’s like something burning against your skin.

Do any of you play your tabletop RP's in any place other than someone's house?

Anyone have any experiences with playing in unusual locations?

How do you feel they impact your experience with the game?

if it's a new group you usually do it in a public place, 90% of the it's a local game store which has tables and stuff.
>>
I play in bar/pub on a regular basis with the local group that organises games.

It's a pretty cosmopolitan city so the place is a bit hipsterish to begin with. Most of the people there are old men but we have the quieter end of the bar pretty much to ourselves unless it's busy.

Really nice craft beers and absolutely top quality food as well that always helps things.

The staff there are all great and get what we're doing but once in a while one of the guys will ask us what exactly we're doing. It's sorta confusing to explain but they're always well meaning.

How often do you use maps? Any GM's here? I am just curious because I want to use a combination of theater of the mind AND maps. When would the maps come into play though? For example, I am thinking of having the group find some way into a factory, I wouldn't need a map of the surround area while they are info gathering but I would probably want a map of the factory right?
>>
>>44306875
Not a GM (though I'm gearing up for a campaign), but from a player's perspective, this is probably what should be covered:

- A rough map of the factory, at the very least. You're going to have combat in the factory from the sound of it, have it ready for players to be there.

- A general idea of the surrounding buildings. Doesn't have to be a map, but just like, "there's a warehouse across the street, two stories, windows facing the factory". Might have a sniper, might have a place the rigger wants to park, might have somewhere the decker wants to hide.

- Have an idea of where it is overall. If you're in Auburn, you're gonna have a lot of factories. If you're in Tacoma, more likely to have docks and warehouses. Helps for describing the scene. You don't need to map all this, but it's just good setting stuff. There's a few maps of 2075 Seattle floating around that might help you.

tl;dr Map the factory and its grounds, have an idea of what's around it.

You shake your head, feeling confident. If Nila can do it, then you may as well try. "No need to trouble her," you nod and reach out your hand towards the river. Will and power, they said. Well, you have the will and how much power can ordering a bunch of fish to swim closer to the shore take? At first, everything seem to be going well. The fishers gasp as the silvery shapes of fish start to be sighted, closer to the surface and grouping together.
"A-are you... You're doing that?" gasps one of the fishers, slack-jawed in astonishment. Sadly, as you nod towards him, you start to lose your grip on the spell. It's suddenly a lot harder to hold onto! Fish start to slip away from your magical grasp and in desperation, you grip tighter. The river bulges upwards and everyone starts to nervously back away as you wrestle with power you don't understand and rapidly realise you're out of your depth with! Fish wriggle in place, stuck still by the tightly packed water, the free-flowing river swirling around it. Shouts of alarm and calls for caution shake your concentration more and more until..!

BOMF!

A thunderclap behind your eyes cuts your legs from under you like you'd been punched in the face by a bear. The water you were 'grasping' suddenly explodes, soaking and stinging everyone around and raining fish, both whole and in pieces, down upon the ground, occasionally interrupted by the placement of someone's head, hand, or upturned face. You have the most splitting ache of something you didn't know you even POSSESSED and a spiderweb of black lines run from your fingertips to halfway up your forearm, itching and burning like you've been attacked by a swarm of bees armed with stinging nettles. Fortunately, the whatever-ache soon subsides and there's plenty of cool bank mud to at least partially soothe the stinging.

As you're nursing your arm and your companions are gathering up the bits and pieces of flying fish, Nila emerges from the river and looks around in utter confusion. "What in the wide world even happened here?!"

After you explain what you tried to do and show her you arm, she sighs and shakes her head in sympathy. "Burnout. You tried to do too much too soon! You thought just because you can use magic you can jump in and start doing whatever you wished?" She smacks the palms of your hands lightly, causing you to yelp in pain. "Idiot! You're lucky I'm fond of you... Stick to minor things first. Small blessings and healing. If you try to do too much, you could harm, or even kill yourself. You mustn't ever, EVER let these..." she traces a cool, soothing finger up one of the lines, "Reach your heart!" She pokes you painfully in the chest and holds her finger up to your face. "Understand? Be glad you didn't try to turn back a flood or something."

Is there anything you would like to talk to Nila about, before she storms off in a worried huff?

You are Second Lieutenant CT-42/458, commander of All Terrain-Tactical Enforcer 7330, of the 3rd Grand Republic Army, 5th Armored Corps, 3rd Division, 4th Batallion, 1st Brigade, 5th Regiment, 1st Squadron, 1st company, 2nd platoon.

A few hours ago, you had succeeded in breaking through multiple Separatist ambushes and a platoon of enemy armor to reach your objective in this city, the Hospital. The AT-TE you were escorting, the Thunderbolt VIII commanded by 1st Lieutenant Sparks, suffered heavy damage, and Sparks himself was gravely wounded, though is still holding onto life. The Thunderbolt happened to have been carrying medical supplies, equipment, and roughly a platoon of medical personnel.

You are immensely relieved that Xtreme fired with care.

After supporting Major Bandit's scout platoons in eliminating the remains of the Separatist infantry assault, you covered the limping Thunderbolt the rest of the way to the Hospital. As the medical team was disembarking and Lieutenant Sparks was rushed off to be treated, AT-TE 7330 was directed to a parking structure turned into a repair and resupply depot further down the block.

You are standing outside of your AT-TE out of the way of the mechanics as they connect up fuel lines, load in ammo, and perform repairs. AT-TE 7330 suffered only minor damage along its upper mid right flank and along the front armor of the mass driver, though the battle has left dozens of blaster burns, both small and large, along the sides from the number of shells that bounced off the armor.

The pristine white of its armor still shines proudly despite the scuffs to the paint job, which you find immensely satisfying.

"Good job out there, Lieutenant." Phi says, standing at your left.

He is wearing the original Mark I Tanker armor with its distinctive orange stripe and lack of the backwards facing protrusion common to the Mark I infantry helmets. Other than that, his armor is entirely white except for a large dark green spot on the outside of his right hand. Odd, you wonder what the significance of that is?

Before you can formulate a response, behind you calls out the distinctively deep voice of Mandalorian Crusader. "It was an honor to fight with you, sir. I would gladly follow you into battle against the Separatist scum once more."

You turn around, and you find that your reply dies in your throat when your eyes lay upon Crusader. Every inch Crusader's armor, regular Mark I, is colored except for his pristine white helmet. His armor has been colored black with intricate bands of orange intermingling with green accents along his chest piece and down the insides of his thighs, looking to you as roughly similar to the letter T.

His pauldrons are red with a dark silver outline, a pattern you see repeated on his gloves and his boots. Along his arms you see stripes of blue, green again, and gold with a thin red and silver border swirling together in a pattern that seems to connect the pauldrons to the gloves. The inside of the forearm, the outer sides of the midsection and the thighs, and the entirety of the lower legs above the boots had been left a sheer black.

The every color on the armor gleams brightly in the dull light of the parking structure. After a moment of staring in awe at Crusader's armor, you then spot a massive vibroblade in a sheath attached to the back of his armor that is half as wide and nearly as tall as he is. It as well has a similarly intricate color scheme, though the brightest colors are silver and gold.

Crusader chuckles lightly. "I see you are in awe at my armor, Lieutenant. I would be more than glad to regale you with our Mandalorian heritage whenever you would like."

Another trooper beside him that you barely noticed speaks up. Though now that you have paid mind to him, you cannot help but notice that he stands a full head over any other trooper. His armor is completely lacking in coloration, but you severely doubt you would mistake him for any other clone.

"I," This must be Big. Suiting name. "would like, to listen to one, now." His speech is both halting and precise, and when he speaks you can see him motioning with his hands. Everything about him screams degenerate to you, a mistake in the cloning procedure that should not have been sent into battle.

Crusader wraps his arm around Big's shoulders, no easy task you note, and responds with a booming laugh. "Come, comrade, let us find our lodgings on this planet!" He leads Big away towards a nearby building.

Xtreme gives his mad giggle. He is standing with a orange glove resting on a blaster pistol in his holster. There are yellow, what actually looks to be faded gold, X's all over the armor, the largest two on the upper right side of his helmet and over his heart on the front of his chest piece. A smattering of smaller X's are wildly spread out all along his arms and legs. One of the larger ones, more fresh than the surrounding ones, criss-crosses his entire right thigh and has a silver circle roughly painted around it. The armor is pitted, marred, burned, warped, and, as you see along the left side of Xtreme's helmet, partially melted.

It is the most abused piece of armor you have ever seen, and, while a pit of disgust lodges itself in your throat, you cannot help but feel an immense respect for the trooper.

Phi shakes his head beside you.. "I assume I will be seeing you in the bar later, X?"

He turns towards Phi. "You should join me now, Phi. We survived today, so we may as well live! Just like we used to, remember?"

> [Cont.]
>>
>>44305207
"Sorry, X." Phi motions to you. "I think I'll stick with the Lieutenant for now. You know how shinies can be at times, and we wouldn't want another butterbar incident again on our hands."

"Fair, fair." X turns to you a little too sharply before returning his attention to Phi. "Well then, tally ho!" He spins on his heel and bounds off in a random direction. Phi laughs quietly.

"He's more likely to drown in the rain then find an open bar." Phi looks to you. "Well, you met most of the crew. Twitch, well, he like to go," He makes a vague motion with his hand. "Places, I never can keep track of him. And Jackpot," He points back over his shoulder at AT-TE 7330. "He never leaves his gunner seat. Practically lives there." Phi shrugs.

"Anyway, sir, what would you like to do?"

That entire encounter with the rest of your crew came and went so quickly that, you realize, you weren't able to get a word in. You are slightly disoriented.

So, how would a space leviathan work?

By space leviathan, I think of something HUGE, maybe our solar system long, or ten times this. A beast able to feed on stars and nebulas, so huge it as it's own atmosphere and can mess with the gravitational force of a solar system just by being too close. Something formidable enough to travel between galaxies.

"For a second there I thought I was getting a threesome. Oh well, save it for my birthday".

"But your birthday is waaaay too far away" Ranlis teases, eliciting minor reactions from Al.

---

You head back to your place and play some super bombad racing for a bit, before you put on some of those neiomidian cartoons you love making Al sing the theme song to so much.

Al and Ranlis tend to ignore each other and only talk to you, which makes for a weird conversation, and there's only a few more force lightning's from Ranlis, and she even gets clocked in the jaw at one point for trying to pull Al's pendant off.

No one died like you were expecting though, so it's all good.

You're tired and your head's killing you so you temporarily pass out to the sound of arguing.

When you wake up after your beautiful dream of living in a marshmallow house, your eye opens to see Ranlis fingering Al up against the beanbag with her back to you, while Al's eyes are too closed over to see you.

How would Applegate's andalite empire fare in the 40K universe? On the ground, they seem to be rather intimidating individually compared to, say, the average guardsmen - he's with the centauroid body, the warrior noble mentality and the molecular tail blade (plus, their handheld shredders are obscenely powerful, possibly comparable to volkite equivalents). In space, their capital ships' main guns are capable of single-shot planet killing (via complete glassing, or the actual breaking apart of smaller planetoids) and have shields which can withstand SEVERAL shots from said guns. Their drives are fast but unreliable - seemingly at random, they can take anything from hours to years to cross galactic distances.

Their main disadvantage is numbers. The race's total population is probably kept well under a billion, and at its most militarized, the empire only had about 30-40 capital ships.

I always find these 40k crossover threads to be among the saddest you can find on this board.

It has the same sort of mentality as all those My Little Pony crossovers, where these people don't really appreciate what kind of clashing mess results when you combine the franchise equivalent of grapefruit with just about any other fruit.

Really, you're not supposed to include grapefruit pieces in fruit salads. It just makes everything taste like bad grapefruit.
