The affinity doesn't always have to be elemental, but there should always be a "theme" or a "school" of some kind. Wizards being able to fuck the rules and do whatever they want is like like 80% of the problem with most versions of DnD and it's ripoffs.

But obviously you DO need specialization of some kind, or even - God forbid - making magic itself not capable of literally everything.

Yes for affinity but call it attribute so you can include things that aren't elements and don't trigger someones autism with it. Also allow for 3 of 12 affinities max per mage, that should do quite well for balance purposes and allow for enough problems being solved by a single PC.
Example:
Fire affinity (manipulate heat, fire, generate fire, useful for alchemy, can generate explosions)
Water (manipulate cold, generate water/ice, heal, generate defensive barriers)
And so on.

I just want to vent
I want to DM a game with some friends but can't stand 3.X. Unfortunately, it's the only system they've used before. Would FATE be a good system to introduce them to, or would it likely be too abstract?
Otherwise, how is Dungeon World? I've never played it myself but am curious about it.
Why not use 4e? Or 5e?

Don't do DW. Memes aside, it's a bad combination of AD&D aesthetic and tone and Apoclypse World rules. Damn near any other *World game would suit you better.
Savage Worlds, while not a *World game despite the name, is supposedly a good choice for beginners as it's not super crunchy or overly meta or freeform.
GURPS has Dungeon Fantasy and it's a hell of a lot of fun, but even though I'm a huge GURPSfag I cant recommend it without also mentioning it's very GM intensive;...

I'd say run 5e. It's similar enough to 3.5 so that people who've played it can pick it up easily, and it's easier on the DM and just simpler in general.
It's probably the perfect system for your scenario.
How much do you know about theoretical physiology, /tg/?
I need a scientific explanation why all the denizens of a specific fictional planet would be albino in appearance. We're talking pale skin, white hair, white eyelashes, possibly pink/red eyes. Health detriments optional.
Bonus points if you can tie it in to the nature of the planet's moon in any way. And no magic! Otherwise, have a field day.

The albino gene or broken colouration gene is now a survival trait.
Small suns do not die quick. Many, many generations later and you have a planet of pale people.
Is it possible for Chaos to taint Tyranids. And I mean fuck up whole hive mind level taint.
Don't think there is such a case in Canon but I come from the fact that every Nid contributes to the Hive mind as much as it is effected by it.
There were cases of single Tyranid organisms to get mutated by chaos, just like any other animal. Let's say they bring the taint back, the Hive mind would try to expose it like an infection, but let's say taint progresses subtle. How far you guys think it would reach?
If it got into a Norn Queen and by extension the entire bioship it would have the potential to escalate indefinitely. Just like the Tyranids themselves have the ability to spread indefinitely.
It helps if the corrupt bioship is isolated from the rest of the hive-fleet because if the rest of the fleet detected something like that happening they would annihilate it.
The Tyrannid ability to mutate at will would be the greatest advantage to Chaos-Nids.

What if the whole ship got a latent taint. Something like a suggestion planted into the collective psyche, just like any reasoning or observation made by an expeditory hive fleet, and then it would just go past undetected into the bigger Hive Fleet rendering it practically insane.

When Shadowrun was translated for the Japanese audience, they took a few liberties with the presentation of Japan. Namely, they didn't make Japan appear nearly as racist and xenophobic as they do in the original material. Naturally, there's more of a focus on Japanese hotspots, but the main change was basically making the country more inclusive to the various races.

It's more MMO than D&D.
If you want D&D, then you should be watching Record of Lodoss War or Slayers.
That said, some things that are explained in the Light Novels are not explained in the anime; most importantly that the MC's build is an RP-build going for a specific theme. While he has a lot of theoretical knowledge on playstyles, and he took part in guild raids, his build is not optimized for either PVE or PVP, so he can actually be said to be one of the weakest members of the guild....

So currently in my group we have a bit of an issue regarding a poor wording of a wish to an omnipotent being. The exact wording of the wish was something like "I wish that all who have died would be revived". Immediately afterwords the GM described the ground and temple shaking heavily, then silence again. The session ended there and I'm scared as to what we got ourselves into. Any ideas?

Depends on the interpretation of "all".
Presumably it's limited to only beings with a soul in this fantasy universe, but otherwise your entire planet should be blotted out by the sheer mass of septillions of microorganisms that suddenly spring into being.

What features might an artifact greatbow designed for the ultimate sniper have? I was thinking a spike on one end to stab into the ground for better stability and also so it can be used as a spear in close range. Anything else?
