How do you make your combat encounters more exciting?
High stakes? Reward? Unusual terrain?
>>44297970
You could try giving cool descriptions and not only saying "You hit the orc for 8 damage." Mark.
Make your enemies do something other than hack and cast spells.
Make them knock your party over, make them try and disarm them or use the environment.
I once ran a one shot of DnD5E for a friend, was only him playing. He fought two goblins as his first meaningful encounter.
Because he allowed the two goblins to strafe and circle around him, one of them went from behind and tried to hold him while the other got some easy shanks in.
Now, in terms of mechanics all that happened was he failed a STR saving throw to break out of the grapple, got a reduced...

Make the enemies do smart shit that fucks up the party's shit to some degree
What are game design or even adventure design concepts that used to be around but aren't anymore? We have a lot of people into OSR type games, but even those games use modern concepts with a slight twist on them. What actual design elements have we outright lost and never use anymore?
>>44297830
Bad ones usually. There's a reason THAC0 is dead and I'd wager the same applies to any other extinct mechanic.
>>44297830
Maybe dismemberment rules. A lot of the games I've played lately haven't had ways to cripple an enemy and run away, they were just walking life bars that don't go down until they reach zero hit points.

You are charged with restoring D&D to its former glory. The company intends to do this buy reprinting millions of books, and supporting it with a strong advertising campaign. However, you must pick only ONE edition of D&D (Pathfinder does not count as that belongs to the competitor). That edition will be the only edition (along with ALL the expansion material) that gets reprinted, sold, and advertised. All other editions of D&D will be declared obsolete, and if anyone ever tries to publish material in the "outlawed" editions they will have the shit sued...

Edition War arguments incoming.
How practical is a mutagenic virus that only mutates humans into koalas?
>>44296768
Depends on the setting
>>44296768
I thought such a thing already existed in Australia?
Well, impossible, for a start.
But that aside, depending on how contagious it is and how fast its effects, it could mean the quick death of most of the human race, save for those who can find eucalyptus trees before becoming full koalas.

>GROSS/WEIRDLY HANDSOME
>Lorgar
Lorgar was always described as being extremely handsome by all who saw him, to the point of being almost enchanting. While he wasn't as beautiful as Sanguinius, he was mentioned as being handsome multiple times.
Charisma is also a powerful force, you know, and he was probably one of the most charismatic Primarchs besides Horus.

Why do people like this mook?
>Army uses swords, shields, and pistols in a modern day setting.
>They are still one of the most powerful.
Explain how their tactics would work, assuming sword and shield was their main weapon and this is mid to low magic/tech.
By carrying swords, they get a major bonus to their BadAss stats which improve all of their other stats.
>>44295001
There would be no way to make this feasible unless there was an advancement in ballistics armor that nullified conventional firearms and metallurgy that made blades able to cut through this armor.
>>44295001
So you're asking for something extremely unrealistic in a realistic setting?
I guess they use tanks to drive close to the enemy then hit them with their swords.
Exotic weapons.
We've all accepted that D&D 3.5 is a shit system, but some of us choose to continue playing it any way. Some of us even look for ways to fix it. It's the same feeling of satisfaction that one seeks from fixing up old cars or houses.
How does one make exotic weapons worthwhile?
The only reason anyone takes the exotic weapon proficiency feat is for the spiked chain.
That's not true; occasionally people to take the feat for harpoons or eagle's claws, but that's very rare.
The thing about spiked chain proficiency...

Hey guys, just picked this game up. Anyone else play it and want to explain the dice system to me? The guide makes no sense. Also, reviews? I'd also like to hear about Age of Rebellion and Edge of the Galaxy (or whatever the outer rim one is called).
>>44294063
What don't you understand?
Whenever you make a check, you build a dice pool- you the player add good dice based on your character's abilities and skills, the GM adds bad dice based on how difficult the check is.
When you roll this dice pool, if there are more success symbols than failure symbols, the check succeeds. If there are more failures than successes, it fails.
Same logic for good/bad side effects, but they are counted separately. So its possible to succeed at a task and have bad...

Basically this. I just wished they release a supplement for Age of Rebellion where you play as the empire with the same sort of resource allocation and mission setup.
>>44295820
That's a cool looking system.
can roleplaying systems be used for deathmatch-style pvp?
Yes, just use d20 modern
You mean like a tabletop Unreal Tournament?
A wargame will be better fit for that.
nah, you just create 2 characters of the same level with predetermined stat scores to place in the 6 abilities
Dming my first campaign soon, story is gonna be about uniting a bunch of regions against a demon lord, how many ways do you think the PC's will derail this one?
If you include succubi they will do things to them. Maybe enslave them and whore them out too. They may end up doing that if you include females at all...
Oh don't worry i'm counting on that happening
something stupid at the very least
Which primarchs do you believe died as virgins? Or, you know, "disappeared," daemonically ascended or otherwise left the plot. This information is vitally needed, so that I can get a friend of mine into 40k with me.
The only ones I can say for sure ever touched a woman would be Fulgrim, Khan and Russ. Sanguinius, Guilliman and Horus are "maybe" in my book, and everyone else "probably not."

I want to make a game based around cars and underground racing
is there any system that let's me do that?
>>44292933
Make a minigame centered around the racing part, then plug that into ORE, BRP, or VeloCity. No RPG vehicle rules will do regular street races justice.
>>44293007
I know what VeloCity is but don't know ORE or BRP mind giving some info anon?
Also how would the minigame be?
GTA V sets up quite a bit of modding potential.
