Do you think that a giant anthill containing an entire subterranean civilization of sentient ant-people would be a fun setting for a game?
How would you envision a location like this? I've thought of having a bunch of ant tunnels that lead to some kind of huge inverted "ant city" that's really just a gargantuan abandoned temple left behind by some kind of progenitor race.
Would you want to go to Bugland on a quest?
>>48059873
I'd be down for that. Though I'd worry about the ant people society. It's either drones with only one real NPC(the Queen) or you just re-skinned dwarves.
If you can find a middle ground between the two it could be interesting.
I think a hive city could be a very interesting setting for a handful of adventures but probably wouldn't be an appropriate setting for an entire campaign. But that's just like my opinion, man.
The great thing is there is an established hierarchy that parallels the caste system we're all familiar with already. The Ant Queen rules unquestionably, her princess brood vie for the throne or seek to establish new hives, the soldiers can be their own knighthood order, and the drones form the serfdom.
It's more unique than the traditional Drow and Duergar subterranean setting that seems to be the staple.
My vote is for Umberhulk inquisitors or royal guards.
>>48060253
I kinda like that idea, the soldier ants being like a knightly order, drones being peasants etc.
I think they might also have some of their unintelligent "cousins" as servants too, such as giant mindless ants that serve their more advanced brothers, perhaps.
>>48060075
Your point about ant society makes sense, I also don't want them to be a copy of dwarves or anything like that.
The way I see it, a colony of sentient red ants is built on the foundation of war and knowledge, with soldiers guarding the home as the more intelligent upper-level ants discover new kinds of magic for the good of the Queen and all her subjects.
To further draw a distinction between Ants and Dwarves, the Ants have little care for material goods, and only use precious gems and the like to trade with other races at various specified zones, something kind of like how China used to trade with the Dutch, maybe.
I'm not sure what Ant-people would think of the other races, but seeing four adventuring humans being led through their colony would certainly turn some heads, seeing as most ants have probably never even seen another race before.

As we know, parties with wildly varying alignments can sometimes lead to some issues.
I was contemplating ways around having wickedly violent disputes between PCs, and ways to solve them in-game without necessarily forcing them to cooperate via mutual enemy or Bigger Bad or what have you.
And then I thought "huh. What if they were friends? Like, bros and such?"
Like, LG Paladin and CE Barbarian being friends.
I seem to recall in one of the Baldur's Gate games that this happens- a crazy CE dwarf warrior is very friendly and attracted to a LG female character, and they get on well enough, the LG character even gaining sympathy for the CE character.
What are ways that you could attempt to foster friendships with people of such varying alignments, /tg/ ?
pic slightly related, as everyone gets annoyed with their friends.
This was posted last alignment thread, might help.
>>48058490
>a crazy CE dwarf warrior is very friendly and attracted to a LG female character
Well, as you just pointed out, one way to sell a believable opposite companionship is to make one a woman. In the context of most RPG settings people won't actually imagine woman characters having the same motives or concerns a similar man character would have, they're just THERE and no-one will ever call bullshit on them showing sympathy or tolerance to even a monster midget with dark swirling clouds over them because inhuman compassion is what woman are for, and even if you're afraid you can't sell it just DON'T MENTION THE WOMAN HAVING ANY VIEWS TOWARDS THE OPPOSING CHARACTER. UNLESS YOU POINT THEM OUT THE PLAYERS WILL JUST FORGET THE WOMAN IS THERE.
>>48058868
cont.
However, if you're playing with a more progressive crowd (that actually WALKS THE WALK, that is, not one of those "hurr hurr i'm feminist so i can't be racist, i'm one of you see please accept me" plebs) and your heart is set on E/G companionships that don't rely on deceit on either character's part or strong mutual goals to warrant tolerance consider loosening your stereotypes on what the alignments mean. For instance: two graduates of the Paladin academy have been best pals since adolescence. One of them wants to be a Paladin for the social esteem, to so their children will be in a social class higher than the one they grew up in, and for the power--they fear being powerless, have no true concern for the safety of others, and actually aren't then that "Lawful", they think of themselves as a self-motivating individual affecting the world with their will and not as someone using the system to meet their ends. They want to gain power at literally any means necessary but have never had to do anything "bad" to get it. They're NE or CE. Their friend is much more charitable than them, they judge the success of a society by the quality of life of all it's citizens, feel more hurt empathetically then they do at their own losses, and hate any act that diminishes the productivity of society. They few policies and societies as incredibly important tools for governing and protecting society and will defend and enforce order and policy at any cost. They're LG. The only thing stopping these two gals from being pals is one of them is has less empathy, and lots of RL friendships are like that.
Anyone played this? How'd it hold up? Is it too miniature-gamey to be a good roleplaying game?
>>48054928
Played it, loved it, came back for more.
It's not very miniature-gamey unless you want it to be. It may well be my favourite RPG on the market at the moment, much of that has to do with the setting and those books are FULL off really interesting setting fluff.
Mechanics are good, very similar to the tabletop but with more stats and skills. It means there is a big difference between how an easy to hit hard to hurt knight in full plate with a tower shield and a light ninja-y assassin who is impossible to hit but dies to a stiff breeze if it in a way that D&D doesn't really do.
Characters are squishy but not DH squishy. Combat is fast, lethal, and something that can and should be avoided in many cases.
Character creation is fairly unique and really fun, where instead of picking 1 class you essentially pick 2 classes and get to combine them in fun and interesting ways, like taking the soldier and the officer to create a leader who's not afraid to lead from the front, or combining say the Man O War and mechanic to create the Man O War mechanic model from the tabletop.
tl;dr: 10/10 game, would recommend.
>>48054928
>Is it too miniature-gamey to be a good roleplaying game?
That depends entirely on you. I like it, especially the warjack aspect.
>>48054928
>Is it too miniature-gamey to be a good roleplaying game?
I just read the rules, never played it but to me it seemed that way.
Many rules are ported straigth from the tabletop without any explaination given on how exactly they work exactly. As an example I think I remember a ability that prevents the character with it and everyone directly next to him from being knocked down or moved. But why? How does the character accomplish that?
"Abstract" rules like that, that work in the Warmahordes rules can be immersion-breaking in an RPG.

Hey guys,
My FLGS is starting up a Gorka Morka summer campaign! I'm really stoked.
Been going over the rules and can't figure something out. Is there any real difference between a trukk vs buggy or trak (besides that traks move a little slower)?
The rules seem to say that as long as you can fit a model on a vehicle it can hitch a ride. So what is the distinction between say, a Trukk and a Buggy, exactly? Anything? Or can I just make whatever vehicle I want?
>Is there any real difference between a trukk vs buggy
According to Da Uvver Book; no. They are the same thing.
>trak (besides that traks move a little slower)?
Can go over rough terrain I think.
Gorkamorka's "any models that you can balance can fit" is based on using guys with very slim special bases. If you plan on using 40k round bases, model extra planks on your Trukks to fit your guys.
>>48010002
>based on using very slim bases
not only that but ork infantry models are considerably chunkier than their 2nd edition counterpart, the same goes for their vehicles.
If you wanted to make a trukk/trak/whatever bigger, then do so. It doesn't change the points costs, because it makes you an easier target. A larger target is easier to see, shoot, chase and ram, so mention that if anyone kicks up a stink,
Bikes, for example, pretty much have to be modified if you want more than one person to sit on it, otherwise you're paying 10 teef for a vehicle that can only hold one guy.
>>48010190
If you have access to the Gorkamorka line of Orks, they make great Yoofs. 2e proper....kind of suck; really bad proportions.

It is 307 years since the Battle of Poltava, a decisive victory of Peter I of Russia (also known as Peter the Great) over the Swedish forces under Field Marshal Carl Gustav Rehnskiöld, during the Great Northern War. It is widely believed to have been the beginning of Sweden's decline as a Great Power, as the Tsardom of Russia took its place as the leading nation of north-eastern Europe. The battle also bears major importance in Ukrainian national history, as Hetman Ivan Mazepa sided with the Swedes, seeking to create an uprising in Ukraine against the tsardom.
In 1708, King Charles XII of Sweden had invaded Russia with the goal of bringing the Great Northern War to an end. Turned away at Smolensk, he moved into the Ukraine for the winter. As his troops endured the frigid weather, Charles sought allies for his cause. While he had previously received a commitment from Ivan Mazepa's Hetman Cossacks, the only additional forces who were willing to join him were the Zaporozhian Cossacks of Otaman Kost Hordiienko. Charles' position was further weakened by the need to leave an army corps in Poland to aid King Stanislaus I Leszczyñski.
As the campaigning season approached, Charles' generals advised him to fall back to Volhynia as the Russians were beginning to surround their position. Unwilling to retreat, Charles planned an ambitious campaign to capture Moscow by crossing the Vorskla River and moving via Kharkov and Kursk. Advancing with 24,000 men, but only 4 guns, Charles first invested the city of Poltava along the banks of the Vorskla. Defended by 6,900 Russian and Ukrainian troops, Poltava held out against Charles' attack, while waiting for Tsar Peter the Great to arrive with reinforcements.
Marching south with 42,500 men and 102 guns, Peter sought to relieve the city and inflict a damaging blow on Charles.

Fuck yeah!
"Thank you," you tell Bulma.
"No problem," she says, sounding a bit bummed about having to give up finding the Dragonball for now, but still sounding sincere.
"Very well, then," Baba says, hopping off her crystal ball and waving her arms around it.
The orb begins to glow.
"Crystal ball, shining and round, show Tofoo's parents, wherever they're found!" the old woman commands.
The glow of the ball becomes more intense, and an image begins to appear.
You see two people, a man and a woman, sitting side by side in front of a creek, looking very similar to the one near your home. They talk to one another, skipping stones and looking quite happy.
They look younger than you remember, but you definitely recognize them.
Your mom and dad.
