It's been a while since I've played Pathfinder. Expect me to be rusty.
Game's up to the players. I'm willing to use adventure paths or run with the characters and their backstories. Golarion's the setting either way.

Well, I say take a chance anyway. If my game doesn't pan out for whatever reason, I'd like to at least grab some good players from it.

I'm looking for 3 to 4 players to join one of my test groups for the game I'm working on. Currently the core mechanic's are completed, and I'm mostly looking for player feedback so I can tweak anything that needs to be balanced. Looking primarily for players with RPG experience, who are willing to commit for the next couple months.

Ace Combat is a series of video games focusing on combat between fictional countries using (mostly) real world aircraft. The current campaign is set during the Belkan War (1995). Players take on the role of mercenaries hired by the nation of Ustio. Successful missions earn players XP to upgrade their characters, and cash to upgrade/modify existing, or purchase new aircraft. Game play so far has been comprised of in cockpit missions, and more roleplay centric out of cockpit sessions. You don't need to know the video games to play in the RPG, but that's a plus.

I'll be monitoring the thread and able to respond to any questions, but as I'm on my phone at work I can guarantee neither promptness nor great detail.

So why exactly should people with superpowers who can shape the reality with their mind be "balanced" with dudes who can swing a sword really hard?

I don't remember Boromir crying about Gandalf being too OP.

They're not meant to be.
The problem is that in your shit game, you have either "Superpowers who can shape reality" and "dudes who can swing a sword really hard"
>>
So everyone can participate.

If you want spellcasters to be more powerful just ask your GM to let you play at a higher level than everyone else :^)

FAQ:
>What the fuck is this?
Somewhat a campaign of crack-infused free-form roleplay in the grim darkness of the far future.

>When do you guys make these threads?
Usually mondays at 4PM GMT, but they sometimes extend to Tuesdays if we got caught in the middle of something when the thread died and it was too late to make another one the same day.

>Can I join in?
Sure, just think of a character and have fun, you can find most info in 1d4chan albeit it's ussually a little bit out of date in comparison to where the threads are.

>Is there any requirement in character creation.
Not really, we've had Xeno infiltrators, Chaos infiltrators, Villains, Heroes, Normal Guardsmen, Crazed Guardsmen, Assassins, Psykers, Space Marines, Inquisitors, Squats... just think whathever and join the fun.

>Is it allowed to have more than a single character?
Yes as long as you don't use it to powerplay.

>So how you guys do the playan'?
We tend to use spoilers for OOC chat, but nothing is set in stone.
We tend to use greentexts for describing a character's actions, but again nothing is set in stone.
Use d20s for combat checks and d100s for other things you want to roll, higher Is better.
It's important to know that the regiment is now in the employ of a radical Ordo Xenos Inquisitor, with influence from an Ordo Malleus Inquisitor and under the watch of an Ordo Hereticus Inquisitor. Yes we've been through a lot of shit.

>the constant noise of activity suddenly ceases from inside VB19. A voice cries out in joy, "'I'z done it!"

After getting confirmation about Vanaheims safety from Aaroniero you return to your guests whom you've left at the outskirts just in case.
When you arrive the four hollows you invited are marveling on the vegetation.

"Everything alright?"
Harribel asks once she notices you.

You reply to her after a sigh of relief.
"Yes thankfully.
It looks like I was getting worked up over nothing."
You turn your attention to Lan who looks quite bored already.

"I'll take over from here."

She nods and then walks off.

You clap your hands together and speak up.
"So, are you ready to take a look at the actual place?"
As you ask the question you look over the four of them to see Apacci sniffing the leaves.
"Also, please refrain from harming the trees.
They are invaluable."

She gives you an angry look.
"Do you think I'm an actual deer or something?!
Idiot..."

"I have a girl who might not be an actual dog but I'm willing to bet that if you threw a ball in her presence she'd go and bring it back."

They all give you a confused look.

"Oh, but before we go..."
You speak up and then extend your arm forward.
The Resurrección ends and whatever parts of your body got transformed now return to their regular state.
Basilisco reforms in your hand and then you put it back in its holster.
"There, people might get worried if I stayed like that."

You look over to the net you created in order to transport Harribel and her crew.
At least your suspicions got confirmed, the mucus won't just disappear if you reseal your power.

Harribel notices this and looks at you.
"So that substance is your power?"

"It is."

"Ugh how disgusting."
Sung-Sun criticizes you.

You decided to shrug it off.
"I lived for over ten years drenched in the stuff, I almost feel naked without it.
But it's very useful in its own ways."
You signal to the three of them.
"Now, please follow me."

You lead them deep into the forest.
140 posts and 6 images submitted.
>>
Along the way you show them the most important features of the settlement such as the fruit bearing plants, the river Elivagar which courses through the forest nurturing the plants and the houses which the settlers built for themselves up in the trees.

"I still can't believe this is real."
Mila Rose marvels at the blue forest.

"Yeah, but I should have guessed.
Almost everyone here is male."

That caught your attention.
"I'm not going to argue that but why's that a problem?
It's true that there aren't many women around but what we have don't seem to have a problem living here."

Harribel looks at you.
"Maybe but hollows are often aggressive and savage, males even more so.
Don't you have problems with violence?"

"There's no real established law around other than us Arrancars stepping on those that start any trouble.
People mostly govern themselves and they even created several forms of "entertainment" for themselves.
The most popular of these is the fighting pit which is packed almost every day, it really helps relieve some tension.
Combine these with an abundant food source and people don't have many reasons to cause problems."

As you finish you can see the four hollows looking around and watching the denizens going about their business, they in turn also get a few odd looks but most people don't pay too much attention to them.
"How many people are here?"
Harribel asks.

"About a hundred.
It's hard to keep count of them."

"And what about your Arrancar friends?
I can't see them."
Mila Rose asks.

You shrug.
"They are probably doing their chores.
Most people help out with the maintenance of the village."

Just as you finish you hear a familiar voice calling out for you.
"Kaizar!"
You turn around and see Alex running towards you.
She screeches to a halt right next to you as she looks over the four Menos.
"You made some new friends?"

You introduce them to each other.

The four female hollows look over Alex and give you a quizzical look.
"She's an Arrancar?
But she's so young."
Harribel wonders.

But Alex is not amused by this.
"So?
Arrancars aren't uncommon here."
She says with an annoyed look on her face.
"But wait, aren't you supposed to be a Vasto?
The only oddity around here is you!"
She asks after looking over Harribel.

She blinks a few times in surprise.
"Well, yes I am.
But..."

"But what?"

"How do you know I am one?"

She blows some raspberries as she answers.
"That's easy.
You look almost exactly like Kaizar did when he was one."

The four hollows all shift their eyes onto you.
"He was?"

You scratch the back of your head.
"Well, only for a short while."

There's an awkward pause in the conversation now.
What do you do?

>"So are you interested in moving in or not?"
>"Yeah I'll just leave you alone so you can make your decision."
>"If you are still unconvinced then join us for lunch."
>Other? (write-in)

>The Traitor's Tourney
Orange on the map
It's Istvaan sort of but with the names changed
The Warmaster calls a tourney of wargames between the legions. It is to be a game of strategy in the warfare of astartes against astartes. Some legions find the idea of civil war heretical, such as the Angels of Light. Some simply decide to keep at the great crusade instead of playing the games of the Warmaster. Some proud few legions, those who wished to boast, or those who wished to prove their worth to their warmaster, fought at the Coliseum of Cadia. An entire planet turned into an arena of war, the primarchs were to prove who among them was the best. However, the loyalists believed the tourney to merely be a game. Some men would be injured, maybe even accidentally killed, as things were in the jousting of ancient times, but still they expected a game. The traitors, however, had other ideas. With artillery emplacements secreted onto the surface, and orbital bombardments prepared, the Traitors turned on their brothers. A charnel house of death, where astartes killed astartes and brother killed brother. Loyalists escape, but terribly bloodied, and the Traitors harry them all the way to Terra.

>Assault on Sol
Orange on the map
Civil War among the Astartes! Brother and brother fight against one another in the red road to Terra. The loyalists rush to defend their primarch, and the traitors rush to the appointed moment of the Warmaster's designs. The Astartes fight many terrible wars on many worlds across the stars as they make short warp-jumps across the Imperium. The fleets of the traitors and loyalists come to a head in space over Mars. The Traitors reach the Imperial palace first, and encircle the Custodes defending the Emperor of Mankind, beloved by all. The loyalists drop in soon after, both to reinforce the palace and to encircle the traitors themselves. The hunters became the hunted as the traitors were assaulted from within and without. Primarchs fight and kill each other, twisted daemons appear in the hives, and the Emperor takes the field. Just at the moment of sure victory, one of the Custodes takes off helm and stabs the Emperor in the back. Only a handful see it, the primarchs in the thick of the action, their honor guards, and the Custodes, but none of the soldiers. None of the people of Terra, and not most of the Astartes. Still, there are whispers. Rumors. The truth is known, even if the Primarchs will not speak of it: it was the Warmaster who killed the emperor.

>The Great Hunt
Red on the map
It's calth but with the names changed
Astartes muster on the Light Angels compliant world, Kreteia. They are to hunt down Eldar in a nearby system. However, they never make it to that world. In orbit above the planet, a series of network transmissions come on the loyalist vox. With subtle manipulation, the warmaster convinces the loyalists that the others have turned traitor. Hunter-killer viruses make the techno-server weapons target each other and fire. Seventeen hours of madness and death pass before the loyalists see the holes in the plot, and realize they have been fooled. In the meantime, traitor forces wreak havoc on the world below and sacrifice civilians to the Dark Gods. The loyalists flee to the east, and the traitors hunt them across the stars.

Reposting a traitor legion concept from last thread:
>What's the name and heraldry
Gengrat Vannevar of the Behemoth Guard?

Raised in the Terrodyne Industrial Combine, working his way up through the works from the forge to Commandant of the entire Industrial Combine
His legion is clad in ivory plates with circuits and lightning devices, their emblem that of The Great Beast of Iron.
>Legion tactics
During the crusade, the legion made extensive use of auxiliary forces, often making use of penal battalions, prisoners of war, and servitors as cannon fodder, exhausting their enemies with an unending stream of worthless bodies before legionary boots crushed whatever remained beneath their relentless tread.
When time was short, the legion was noted for taking to the field in an array of customized heavy armor, most typically based on the Land Raider chassis, but often using less conventional vehicles, such as the Dracosan or even the Chimera.
They were among the foremost in integrating battle automata into the legion structure.
You call them in when the enemy is dug in, when a war of attrition is needed. Their wars are an excercise in controlled brutality and they leave nothing standing their wake.

>During the crusade
Gengrat was found early in the crusade, on a fog shrouded waste world bathed in the light of the Eye. The world was home to strange beasts and the people, who had regressed to an industrial stage kept them at bay with trenches, walls, and primitive armored vehicles, along with chemical weapons. The native mutation rate was high, and the worst affected were herded into massive distraction waves.

Their conquests were primarily in the galactic west, moving southwards.

The legion toppled the towers of the Horde-Masters of Kalrux Prime, matching their waves of chittering weapon-beasts with waves of servitors and the relentless pound of artillery.

I think the majority of D&D players are something akin to a 40 year old housewife’s sexuality. She’s been disappointed for so long that she’s convinced herself that she is satisfied as long as the goddamn Viagra works. Who cares that he’s still fat and out of shape and cannot pleasure her to save his life. She has such low standards for success, anything that isn’t total shit is looked at as a good thing.
I feel like that’s how D&D Next was greeted.
D&D fans have been so cock-starved for something that wasn’t shitty to 50% of the playerbase that they immediately deep-throated whatever Wizards put out.
A good point that another fellow on /tg/ brought up a few days back, is that the D&D designers, Mearls included, are not paid to write a good RPG; they are paid to write a new edition of D&D. Dungeons and Dragons’ identity is based on many aspects that are considered substandard. Alignment in particular is among them. Armor Class is vilified as a concept, but it cuts out a step from combat (subtracting armor from damage) that I think makes it worth it. Vancian magic is garbage outside of the context of D&D; but within the context of D&D it is a vital part of the game’s identity. This is a lot of why 4th Edition was vilified; not because it was a bad game, but because it wasn’t D&D.
Similarly, 3.0 garnered anger from AD&D players who believed it wasn’t D&D anymore. “Ability score increases? Skills? What the fuck is this?”
The game has also been schizophrenic in its tone; from the low-fantasy of AD&D to the ultra-high fantasy of 3.5 and 4e, to the sort-of middle ground of 5th edition.
That said, 5e has a lot of good aspects to it. I can’t say I like it as much as 3.5 because much of its improvements relate to simplicity. Simplicity is good but it doesn’t really help when you already know the other rules systems like the back of your hand, and they offer features that the new edition doesn’t.

Nah, you're a fucking retard, faggot. They turn fucking everything into an argument because they think they are some Plato-tier debater.

No, they chose to take retarded actions, and I dealt out the consequences of those actions. That is part of the Gamemaster's job. If they can't handle, then they are the fucking queers who can find another group. What a bunch of pussy-ass babies. What I described wasn't even that disturbing and they deserved far worse for being retards and killing random people for no reason. What was realistic armor while travelling? My DM and I were talking, and I thought it unrealistic my knight would be wearing his chainmail and rest of his armor while travelling a route between two villages. He thinks that it's dumb, and in times and places like in DnD that you would always assume some sort of danger enough you'd want protection from ambushes. Obviously you wouldn't sleep in your armor, but given how heavy even fitted chainmail could be when resting on you all day, what does /tg/ think?
70 posts and 18 images submitted.
>>
Maille? Maille isn't too heavy if belted to your body and is easy to wear while traveling. Marchine in maille actually prevents it from rusting by keeping the links rubbing against it, and as maille is typically just one piece you can slip it on or off. No squire needed.

Plate armor is the stuff you can't wear and travel with. Because you need a squire to strap and tie it on which can take ten minutes.

DM just wants an excuse to ambush you while you're unarmored. Like you said, D&D settings are pretty much designed to murder you. Whether you're on the roads, at a tavern, in a cave, there's going to be something that wants you dead. Applying realism like that to a fantasy game is just the DM being pissy that he can't mess you up as easily as he wants to. If you're going to follow that sort of nonsense, you might as well take the time to explain why medium sized spiders can't exist and casting fireball in a tight space would sap the area of most of its oxygen. The only times you shouldn't be armored is at events where it's be considered inappropriate or while you're sleeping. Unless you have that feat that lets you sleep armored, which all shitty DMs hate.

Ah, thanks. I figured chain would be more comfortable, but I didn't now if it would become to heavy after a march and exhaust you quickly.

Actually I was the one arguing it would get too heavy after a while, but that was just my simulationist fetish gone ignorant apparently.

Which is best, not limited to the pic?
Explain your reasoning.

Ones that can be used out of combat, because then you still have a purpose after the war.

I'm partial to Male Paladin/Female Barbarian. Mostly because I like the "Lawful Guy, Chaotic Girl" dichotomy. Plus, they both would theoretically represent what a person of that class and gender would want in an ideal partner.

The Paladin is a straight-laced, by-the-books kind of guy. He's not Lawful Stupid and genuinely works to make people's lives better. He's used to society girls, noblewomen, aristocrats, and he's gotten tired of what he sees as "useless" women. He's occasionally sardonic and has a decent sense of wit. Maybe even Fraiser-esque. He's unsure how he feels about the Barbarian, because even though she's everything he secretly wants--tough, headstrong, self-reliant--he's never really had time for a relationship so he kind of waffles on the whole thing.

The Barbarian is of course confrontational and violent. She's a social retard, but painfully aware she doesn't fit in and often feels uncomfortable when put in the Paladin's world. She's enamored with the Paladin, because he's one of the few "civilized" men who actually upholds her culture's tenets of STRENGTH and HONOR. He's also genuinely nice to her, which is a rare experience. Her life's been one hardship after another and here's someone who constantly adds a little warmth to it. She won't put out right away though. She can't tell if he's actually interested or not. And either way, he's really gotta earn this ass.
