I'll confess to being a flare gun fanboy. The different styles over the years fascinate me.
I found two pictures of what is supposed to be a Russian flare gun that converts to a single shot shotgun. I haven't been able to learn anything else about it.
Does anyone know what type of flare gun this is? And if it's available in the U.S.?
Pic 1 of 2.
Pic 2 of 2.
And general flare gun thread,I guess. I'll bump periodically with pictures for as long as the thread lives.
Here's my Polish flare pistol that I modified with an ACOG mount to mount to picatinny rails. I'll see if I have a pic of it in it's current condition, spray painted it tan to cover up the grey JB weld.

I cleaned up all the shit that was oozing down the sides after I took this pic, by the way. It's not as fugly as it looks there. It's in this one on my airshit rifle. Still gonna look for a close up.
I hope this is /k/ related.
So, I'm going on a road trip across the US in a few months, and wanted to know what I can do to defend myself. Right now, I'm a connecticunt, and I'll be going to Oregon, down to Arizona, and back east to Tennessee, where I'll make a more permanent stop.
I'll also have a small trailer I'll be living out of for that time, if that changes things. I do not have a carry permit, as getting one here is absolutely rediculous.
>I have no carry permit
>moving across state lines
Your option is have situational awareness and don't be a dumbass. Your car is a ~1.5 ton gasoline powered battering ram though; if things get hairy just mash the go pedal.
Are you planning to take scenic back roads or mostly interstate?
>>29789183
It'll be mostly interstate, but I'm going off it to see some stuff, but I'm not traveling on them.
I'll get some pictures of my map on roadtripper.
Most dangerous part is that it's taking me through shitcago. Anyone know a good way around, maybe with some bros in that area?
Can you re-use crossbow bolts like you can an arrow?
>>29789132
Yes, providing it still looks safe to use. Always inspect every arrow and bolt before reusing.

Stop what you're doing and watch this video, before you make any of the wrong decisions or buy into the hype that is modern archery. Lars Andersen has studied the actual historical texts that warrior archers learned from, and compiled a style created from accurate, practicality driven teachings. Modern archers will want to load you up with all kinds of compounds bows, sights, quivers, carbon fiber arrows, etc. These are all generic consumer products that will...

100% agree, before I watched these videos I could barely hit the side of a barn from 10 yards, now I'm firing 3 arrows during a midair backflip and nailing the bullseye each time.
Lars has truly revolutionized archery back to the glory days of triple backflips and CQB tactics which are far more effective and deadly than any firearm.
Where can I get real information about poisons?
There's very little information about them on the Internet, almost as if it's being deliberately repressed or censored. Specifically, I want to know if there are any poisons that are practical to use in a blowgun on a human target. I know things such as botulism, curare, dart frogs, and ricin could probably kill someone with a blowdart tipped in them, but how quickly? There is no real information or studies, just ignorant people talking with no evidence.
Is the idea that a dart can kill in under a minute...

Hollywood.
They can kill, but not effectively stop an assailant immediately
>>29788901
VX is pretty fast. doubt you can get it though.
Also the way it kills is brutal, the guy will break his own spine basically.
Even with purity contents in some samples exceeding 97%, death is normally between 24 hours to 7 days.
The few "poisons" that have the Hollywood Death Syndrome are just pharmaceuticals that cause cardiac arrest.
"Where can I get real information..."
A lot of that information fell through the cracks after the revamp of the CIA in the 60's and the KGB in the late 90's. Because we have such a rapidly-expanding medical field, most basic concoctions can quickly be caught and expunged, or if not, put the body on stasis and clean out certain organs.
Don't know if we've had a thread on this.
Your thoughts?

Beretta 92FS vs Taurus PF92 AF
I have been doing some reading on the two but would like other opinions. Pros and cons if you got any other than price difference.
>Buying a Taurus ever
pls
>>29788815
I've been reading very positive things about this particular Taurus. That's why I'm posting the question. I would like to see if anyone has any experiences with it.
>>29788808
The safety is on the receiver and it's cheaper.
That's it.
Is being an aviator the best deal in the US Navy /k/?
>>29788799
No, you should go into Nukes.

DONT DO THIS, SEND HELP!
Sure, until it comes to an actual war in contested airspace.

Why are the M4 and m16 used over the m1a in long range desert combat deployments? My experience with my m1a has been a series of dead accurate iron sights and a bigger bullet. What's your opinion?
>>29788697
M1A is shit
>>29788699
But why? Have you ever actually used one?
Mostly because the US military is hellishly averse to having multiple weapons platforms in use and available.
Have a chance to buy a KSG for what I think is a good price ($500). Has plastic magpul flip ups and a 'red dot' which I assume means walmart dot.
How bad are they? I generally avoid everything Lel makes but these seem unique and possibly fun.
>>29788630
They're well designed, light, easy to strip down, very compact. I have shot one, though I don't own one. Finding one under $700 is pretty close to impossible.
>>29788630
for that price buy it as an investment piece. seriously.
I paid $399 for a PLR-16 years ago. It's held it's value.

Thanks anons. Seems like if I don't dig it I can at least get my money back out of it easily.
Are self defense knives an effective way to defend yourself?
Is it worthwhile to have a rifle, your sidearm and then a knife?
Or is the knife completely unnecessary?
>>29788506
Think of a knife as a tool rather than weapon.
>>29788506
>What's the matter Red....you scared!!?
>>29788506
A knife is not a good self defense weapon. That said, if you can get in close and stab a motherfucker repeatedly, you might do alright. Best have some strong muscles, though. Shit's not easy.
Hi /k/
I'm looking for a reliable handgun to IPSC Production. It has to be striker fired.
My choice comes down to VP9 and P320.
What would You guys recommend me for my first gun?
>>29788459
>to IPSC Production
Go shoot both, /k/ literally does not matter for something like this.
>>29788478
Truth be told, I've shot P320 i kind of like it, its ergonomics feel way better than G17. The problem is that nobody around ows VP9 and I've heard it's very decent gun, a little above P320.
But VP9's barrel length equals 4,1 inches, while P320 it's 4,7. Difference nearly as between G17 and G19
>>29788493
i have both, don't know if i'd agree with the vp9 being a little better than the 320, the 320 has a better trigger that's for sure. with the modularity i'd actually give a nod to the 320.
Is this a functional uniform and, or is it based on any existing uniform? What kind of uniform is it? Seem like a flight suit to me and those old style jungle boots. What is that crotch rigging for? Some type of harness for being in a chopper?
>>29788453
Actually, it really resembles this. Actually one of my favourite pictures.
>>29788453
>Crotch rigging
It's a harness that can be used for extraction or for personnel retention during rotary transport.
>>29788453
>Flightsuit
>Average LBV, Helmet, Eyepro
Only Fulton/Heli extraction rig traces to accentuate the groin stand out, otherwise it's an average uniform. I believe there are traces of picrelated (Either SEALs or USCG TACLET).
I believe something like pic was also the basis of PeaceWalker's Peace Sentinels
Is the PTR-91 any good? I really like the aesthetics of the G3.
Fuckit I'll post again later today then
>>29788248
it is good and very modestly priced for a battle rifle
Yeah they're good, but they don't have all the features of other guns
Is the EF88 Austeyr that good? and why have the ADF picked it up? I don't get it desu, though i'm sort of a newfag to /k/ and guns in general
Having had to use an M4 carbine in combat, thank fuck we chose the EF88.
The last thing Colt made that worked as advertised was the 1911. In 1911.
>>29788577
Are you SF or something?
>>29788206
It looks like there are some fundamental problems that the EF88 upgrade doesn't address. Chief among them is the mostly fixed length, which can be a problem for especially tall or short users, and also the lack of full ambidexterity.
I'm a Kiwi and our defence force switched to the AR-based CQB16.
...I always thought Austeyr was a really neat name though
