tl;dr, how to become motivated?

I have always had a strong overbearing urge to create art and master a craft.

I played piano and minored in music for a while and learned music theory. Eventually I got burned out from it and I seldom play music anymore, and when I do I am certainly not practicing.

At the beginning of this year I decided to give drawing a try, and I began drawing every other day. I would draw from reality and also draw gestures.

But school got busy, then the summer vacation started and things got pretty strange (my computer kept crashing for like three weeks, job searching everywhere, etc), and now I realize that I havent drawn in probably three months.

I REALLY want to create things. I often find myself conflicted between drawing and music. Both require a great deal of practice to create anything of worth, drawing more so than music to me because I have only started drawing this year.

However, if I dont stay consistent I completely forget about this urge to create, and before I know it three months have passed before I have done anything.

Im sure many if not all students of the arts feel the same way and have faced the same experiences. Personally I dont want to change the world, I just want to make art and share it with my friends.

How can I stay motivated to a single subject and get good at it? I apologize for the long-winded post, I just had to get this out there.

Pic semi related, I want to draw shit like Rebecca Guay

Your learning goes to shit after 22, but you can still learn

assuming you don't let your skills atrophisize, you will retain skill until you become senile. Then, you art becomes alternative.

You will find this with any hobbie, the deeper you get into it the wider breadth of knowledge you become aware you must learn. The pros are only good at it because they stuck with it. And they stuck with it because they enjoy it.

Ask yourself, do you enjoy making art? Do you enjoy the challenge of constantly trying to top your previous picture? IF you answer yes to those two questions then that's all you need. That is the secret to getting good. Enjoying the process of getting good. It's easy to lose focus when you see how fare you will have to go to get to where you want to be, but you must keep focussed on the now and what you're drawing now.

Personally, though I never set hard goals for myself, I was constantly looking for artists I thought were just a bit better than me and I'd analyze how they do what they do and I'd try to replicate it.

Now I see a lot of artists who are clearly trying to do pictures that are way out of their comfort zone, and this is foolish, be aware of your skill level and how quickly you can improve and always set your standards just a little above that.

Your feet are way too flat, they need to be in perspective.

The nose in the left-most picture is on an entirely different angle compared the the head. The head is looking straight ahead while the nose is bent in a 3/4 headshot. Also the hands here are bent inward in an unnatural position.

The eyes are too close to each other and not in perspective in that 3/4 shot

The mouth is too low.

The thing around her neck is unclear. Is it a scarf or a turtleneck?

Ear is too small

This entire thing is just lacking fundamentals.

>how many hours do you spend drawing/studying a week?

3*7= 21

So around 21 hours a week. I still don't feel like it's enough.
>>
Iunno... I've been putting in at least two hours a day. 14 hours. Need to increment it slowly.
>>
60 spent "drawing," real time is probably much less than that.

Okay, so disregarding the actual tuition fees, what would be the best colleges to learn concept art/illustration in the U.S? Places where I can learn valuable technical skills and such. Art Center seems promising but I've heard a lot of shit about it, so I'm not sure. Thoughts?

Fuck collage, it will only give you debt and will actually hinder progress

Either take a cs course or/and neet it up and take digital mentorships/live drawing sessions and ataliers

ive heard good things about laguna college of art and design, but youd be way better off searching for an atelier vs an art college.
