Jeff Watts

Just fucking google it ya dingus, the videos aren't hard to find

Okay guys, so how does non-generic non-tumblr art look?
Can you post some names/pictures of artists that are "generic tumblr artists" VS "non-generic ones" (excluding classical art, of course)

pic is of course unrelated

>excluding classical art
>of course

Sorry friend. You only deserve generic Tumblr artists.
>>
I don't know. If you post concept art people will mock that as well, so what's the point of even asking anyone in this shithole?

A good art style should be rooted in some basic elements, like how you render form, how much attention you pay to details, the colors/textures, what basic shapes you prefer, how much your gesture/construction is showing - that's what makes it versatile.
Ima post a few I like, but first - pic related, a pretty generic tumblr stuff.

It wasn't a competition, we coincidentally both drew a dog. Thanks for the help, buddy.

Anyone got any inspirational quotes from artists? I'll start.

"/ic/ is full of talentless armchair critics and intellectual midgets who waste countless hours on learning dogmatic, outdated, secondhand principles of "correct" techniques, totally crushing the possibility of any freedom of expression and producing homogenous, hollow, meaningless shite"

OP, if you don't like what they say, then don't fucking worry about it. Show me your art, by the way. I like art.

how do you guys get over the paranoia of startng an instagram or making a facebook page. part of the reason i do art is because i have a medical condition that makes me socially isolated. i am deathly afraid of people i know and avoid irl finding my artpage and laughing at me. i feel it is better not to try than to try and fail and to be seen as failing.

Well you sound pretty pathetic, OP. I don't think any amount of advice will really help you or lead you to where you want to be.

But i'll try my luck for the lulz.
You just do it and try to remind yourself that other people's opinions don't feed you, clothe you or keep you alive. Really and truly, other people's thoughts, judgements and criticisms are entirely worthless unless you're some celebrity or pop star.

welp, i typed out a long thing an accidentally lost it all, hahaha, abriged version:

see a therapist and get medication to help you with this issue if you haven't done so already

use a pen name, don't tell people you draw, if you get good enough to support yourself from art just tell people you work from home doing super boring shit but it pays the bills and you get to chill at home

if someone ever comes over and recognizes your art supplies and gets super pushy to see your work, have some middle of the road milquetoast studies/landscapes/photocopies on hand and present that as your typical work, tell them it's just a hobby and that you do it because it's relaxing. tell them you're super slow and that if you don't like something about a piece you'll redo the whole thing and that it doesn't upset you, as they say, it's more about the journey than the destination. this buys you time/a defense if they ever ask to see what you're currently working on later down the road

FAQ:
Something's broken, what do I do?

>The site is currently in the alpha phase of development and is being built around us as we compete so sometimes things go wrong. If you ever need any help send me a tweet @LavaFlake or shoot me an email [email protected].

What do we draw?

>Whatever you want. At this point there's no required topic so draw your heart out. Make sure you submit at least a half hour of work or you may get a low effort warning.

What's a low effort warning?

>The goal is to get people to draw every day by turning it into a competition. The low effort warning system is to prevent people from posting last minute, quick sketches when they're feeling lazy. If you receive a warning and it happens again within a month you'll be eliminated.

>This rule has been the cause of a lot of concern amongst newer artists so let me reiterate: this system is to police low effort content and has nothing to do with the quality of the work. New artists are more than welcome.

What happens if I'm eliminated?

>A new Last Artist Standing challenge starts every week. If you get eliminated then get it together and rejoin next week.

How can there be a new Last Artist Standing challenge every week?

>This is a way to let new artists join in and to allow re-entry for the eliminated. Every week a new challenge is started. If you joined on week 1 and make it to week 2 then your daily submission counts for both the first and second Last Artist Standing. If you get eliminated then you're eliminated from both challenges and you'll be able to rejoin next week.

Will I have an advantage if I join later in the week?

>The winner of a Last Artist Standing will be the artist with the longest streak. If you join on day 1 and last until day 85 then you'll have a streak of 85. If there's only one person left in the challenge when you're eliminated but they joined on Day 7 then they'll need to continue on for another week. If they're eliminated before then, you win.

Hi D/ic/k heads

Ive got this little set up for gouache that i want to sketch and paint with whilst on bus/train

but the damn gouche keeps cracking whenever i pour it in and let it dry. it doesn't happen with watercolor.

I dont want to pour out fresh pain every time i want to paint for 15 minutes to 30 minutes. i do that for dedicated plein air sessions.

any solutions? do you guys put gouache in half pans?
7 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
Dried gouache pans will never have the same consistency as paint straight from the tube. You can keep them from breaking up by adding gum arabic to the mix, but really, just take out a few tubes.

>>
>>2584219
Don't use shit tier gouache.
What brand you using, anon?

How does one stop drawing with lines and begin painting straight onto a canvas digitally?
The learning curve seems terrifyingly steep and I really don't even know where our how to start. Does anybody here have any good tips, advice or video tuts on how to make the transition?

ok i'll post this here so other digital artists can screencap or whatever. I can't attach multiple mages, but i'll probably post a few times.

Digital Rendering requires four skills:
>1. the ability to paint from light-to-dark
>2. the ability to paint from dark-to-light
>3. an understanding of the anatomy of light
>4. an understanding of edge control.

if you look at the gif he's pretty much looping skills 1 and 2 until he gets the result he wants. Consistent lighting requires skill 3, and believable form requires skill 4.

this is the anatomy of light i'm referring to.

Here are some videos I found to explain light properties.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tx-TwkMtPwc
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FPz8Xyt3z-w

When you paint with lines, you ultimately end up just painting them out, so in a way you answered your own question:

>begin painting straight onto a canvas digitally

you can fix your mistakes very easily in digital, you have an unlimited supply of every color forever, so if you're willing to scrap huge chunks of your image you can experiment like crazy.

Edge control is an important aspect of painting that's pretty hard to use properly.

Edges are the borders between two colors:
>a hard edge is an abrupt change between two colors,
>a soft edge is a smooth gradation between two colors.

Sinix talks about it here, but it's kind of watered down. I recommend reading alla prima or something similar if you're serious about learning these painting concepts..

I only found out what they are two minute ago but my pov is that they suck for any purpose except sharing a single casual photo with several people who may not know what you've been up to and don't have long enough to tell where you are by looking at the context/background. that or if you plan on making your snaps postcards and selling them... with copyrighted logo attached.

try to get the colours of the photo to coordinate with the sticker
