Anyone else uphold themselves to this very high standard that keeps them from enjoying almost anything they make? It really keeps you from liking the things you draw and makes you think nothing will be good enough. I cant really explain it, but Ive had this standard for myself since middle school. Some people I know get a amateurish level and are satisfied with that, but I can't stop until im at a master level. Hope that makes sense and others can relate. Friends say "just draw" but its not a drawing problem, its a not meeting this high standard problem. And the...

It is called the artists curse where you're never happy with your result
It works like a carrot on a stick, almost reaching it but never there
It is good and healthy if you want to grow and if you know about it and use it you can push yourself really far
>but I can't stop until im at a master level
You will probably feel like you will never get there, and even the people you look up to have the same issues. They just learn how to deal with it and look at it objectively
It is natural

I don't know if anybody else has this. Though it's the internet, I'm sure someone out there will feel the same. I do hate when I'm drawing off, and will bail on drawing that day if it's simply out of control.
I do have a procrastination or perfectionist problem. I struggle severely with seeing a project to the end. However, I have most a very creative "in the zone" mood during these throw away stages, where I don't feel committed to a picture.
What I'm driving...

yes, the standard is what makes you decent. if you were satisfied with the stuff you made while being aware that it's much worse than the average pro, you'll never get to that level.
but that being said, recently i really realized how important it is to draw with absolute confidence regardless of doubts. it's almost like while drawing, you have to be completely and utterly delusional and believe that you are a master of your craft in order to execute everything you've learned properly.

What are your thoughts on watermarking and signing /ic/?
it helps me find an artist I like so it's retarded to remove it.
>>2579596
it's OK as long as they don't use those bigass ones that ruins the whole composition
>>2579596
I hate it when there's no credit because I have to ask "who drew this" on facebook and the guy who posted it (retarded most of the time) is like LUL IDK INTERNET?
I do small plein-air watercolor sketches in a moleskine sketchbook. I'm trying to find resources or advice on how to improve the quality of my sketches: maybe some wash techniques, ways to simplify my palette, or just ways to generate a better image in general... literally anything.
I'll post some recent sketches.
The pages are really really small, hence the messy brushwork, which is something I know I need to work on. Tips appreciated.

I have a wide variety of very unique and strange artwork like this in my game Realm of Wretched Nightmares. I'm interested in a wide variety of opinions so I figure this is the place I should come to.

kill yourself.
Time to put your money where your mouth is d/ic/ks.
I just got fired from my job (menial 9-5 shit, nothing to talk about). I have around 20k dollars saved up, which should last me at least till next year.
I'm tired of 9-5 bullshit anons. I want to do art. But I don't know jackshit. I'm starting from zero. I bought a wacom tablet and downloaded Krita. The plan is to study art for a year, even if I don't get to 'make-a-living-tier' (I probably won't) I want to at least be able to walk on that path.
So here's the deal, I'll do whatever exercise, drawing, etc, you ask me to do and post it here. Follow any advice, as long as its specific and short. So, no "read x book and copy all the drawings", you can cite a single page from the book but not the entire thing. Lectures are fine as long as they're not longer than 10 minutes, snippets of longer lectures are fine.
In return, I will do it. I'll do whatever exercise you ask me to do, and you'll get to see my progress (or lack thereof) in this and future threads. Think of it like a game, if you want.
Let's see what you guys got.

I'm sorry but you're gonna have to read, even if you don't want to, some books like the vilppu one and loomis books have worked wonders for me, and I too didn't want to read. all the advice I can give you is read the hampton book and figure drawing for all it's worth by loomis.
>>2579492
Nigga if I could make an artist, it would be ME.
>Loomis.
>>2579492
you'd be a damn fool to take any advice here
Any good tutorials that are straighforward about rendering? I bought this book and god damn this shit is not sinking in. There's all these long winded statements. I need something concise.

Here's your reply.
Hello /ic/! I am working on a research paper regarding creativity an artists compared to scientists for uni. Would anyone care to answer these questions? Much obliged for your insight! :)
Who in your life has inspired you & why?
What advice would you give others to become more creative?
How important is education to creativity?
How do you deal with creative blocks?
When did you first become creative?
Do you have a specific creative process you need to go through? How did you develop that process?
>>2579471
>Do you have a specific creative process you need to go through?
I masturbate a lot.
A girl on Instagram inspires me daily desu. Mostly it's because I find her absolutely beautiful and so is her work
Surround yourself with creative people

My main inspiration to start to draw are Barbucci, Matteo de Longis and Nekro. I love the style of these guys and the "worlds" they create around their drawings.
Is hard to advice someone to be more creative. But, there is no doubt reading, watching films and playing games kinda helps to develop the imagination. And not having mental taboos is important too.
The education in creativity is kinda important, creativity without control is as bad as not having creativity.
How to deal with...

I'm trying to follow the sticky and draw pic related, but I never feel I'm getting the pencil strokes right. The lines are either too short or too long. Any advice?
>Inb4 give up
>Inb4 OP can't Inb4
Without being too blunt, just do it. The lines aren't the focus of the exercise. I mean this as nicely as possible.

But how and when will I know when I have it being drawn properly and not too big or not too small?
>>2579438
Once you flip it upside down. You're not supposed to get it right in one try, you need to try, fail, revise, learn from your mistakes then try again. Do it 2 or 3 times.
But it's Art, /g/ edition.

What are your thoughts on this shit?
Can Art as a API even work?
>>2579411
Everything is art, anon. It just has to be labeled as art.
>>2579427
But the process, does it have merit?
>>2579469
Nope.
I have no idea where to post this, but the 4chan banner contest involves art so here I am.

What?
You need to lurk moar, retard.
Requesting a foto of a color disc you might have seen in a science museum. The one where when you spin it, each color gets a turn showing up then if you spin it faster it fades to grey...

What is your personality types /ic/, and what type of art do you love?
If you don't believe in Briggs & Jungs personality theory then please ignore this thread.
I'm either INFP or INTP not really sure, have mostly been interested in concept art and illustrations for vidya and would like to do something like that for a living.
Traditional art has always been boring and bland to me, except for some pieces from the romanticism. Specifically the ones that explore darker themes and atmosphere while still having a realistic look, like pic related by Caspar...

Reason I can't decide one of the two personalities is because even though one of the reasons I like concept art is it's logical and realistic nature as I would think would be typical for an INTP, the reason I want to make is even more because of the fact that it'd let me explore entirely new and unique ideas, Like original worlds, creatures etc. From what I've read the interest in something entirely new would be more typical of an INFP, but I could be completely wrong.
I'm INTP and I mainly just do my own thing but I guess I'd also be interested in the concept art sort of stuff? Most of my personal work is stuff like creature design. I love thinking up new species and figuring out how'd they'd work to make it seem more believable.
As for the styles themselves, I like a pretty wide range. I never really cared about what a style is called so it's hard to answer. But typical shit like animu and semi realistic stuff that has nice stylization. Also soft spot for pretty medieval stuff like the tapestries. Don't...
